    The black bands and lines have been described to me as reminders to stay alive. The point is to see them get old, faded, warped, and scratched up with time and you can’t do that if you off yourself.

      @@justinkd I have to agree with you buddy when it comes to just line tattoos I honestly don’t see the point of them I really don’t, I’ve been having tattoos since I was just 16 years old and I’m just one month away from my 60th birthday, and I’ve been having a complete back piece tattoo which has taken 25 months to complete, on the 8th of September is my very last session, but the tattoos from when I first started getting tattoos are nowhere near like the tattoos that they can do today, they have come such a long way,the needles are so much better, the ink is so much better and I’m so glad that I left my back until now, it’s unbelievable what tattoo artist can do nowadays, it’s amazing really, hyper realism tattoos that are amazing compared to tattoos 44 years ago when I had my first tattoo done buddy, but I enjoy listening to what you have to say. I don’t agree with all your choices of bad tattoos but I agree with you on most of what you have to say, when you put the photos of the line tattoos I think what the fuck is the point of them if I’m totally honest with you buddy unbelievable really.

    I love aged tattoos. You have to look at the context. These senior citizens got tattoos when they were still very socially unacceptable and that’s pretty badass. Not to mention most of them are the American Traditional style, which was pioneered in the US and popularized by military service members. And yeah maybe our tattoos will age better as technology improves and styles evolve, but it’s still cool to see such a rich part of tattoo history on somebody that’s spent some time on this earth.

    I actually did my research on my artist long before I started my sleeve. I knew I wanted full sleeves, one Disney Villains and one Disney princesses and such. I lost my wife almost a year ago and just a couple months after she passed, I started my villain sleeve. I couldn’t be happier! I gave my artist carte blanch when it comes to the characters and lay out. I just provided him with the list of the characters I’d like to have. And now every time I look at my arm, I have very specific memories from our trips to Disney and I’ll be forever grateful for that!

    As someone who read and write Chinese (1st language is Cantonese), I don't agree Chinese character tattoo is bad. Those pictures you showed in the video are no doubts terrible but they were most likely done by some artists that have no Chinese language background whatsoever.
    People just google translate whatever phrase/word/sentence they like in English(or other language) and throw that to a random artist. When both parties have no idea how to make the character look great, what can they do? Use the default font in Microsoft Word and just put in on the body. Man, those are the font I used in my uni essay.
    Chinese character tattoo is not bad but it will be bad if neither the artist nor the client have the language background. If anyone wants a Chinese/any foreign language tattoo, go for someone native. There are so many talented tattoo artists in Hong Kong, Taiwan and China that customise Chinese character tattoo for you with their wonderful handwriting or calligraphy. Not only can both parties have better understanding on the tattoo, but also the artist can find the right character for you instead of a literal translation from Mr. Google.

    • @BillyTheCheeseMonger
      @BillyTheCheeseMonger 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well yes if you’re Chinese they’re not bad at all! That’s why all his pictures were of white people. The bad part in my opinion is where people with no respect/understanding of Chinese culture getting them on impulse.

    • @paulthomann5544
      @paulthomann5544 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah, i don't really understand why one would want to get a Chinese tattoo when neither oneself nor the artist know anything about the language. If i were to get one, i'd certainly go to a Chinese artist, or if that's not an option, get a Chinese friend to draw the writing for the artist to tattoo.

    Personally I love portraits & tbh almost all my tattoos so far are actually portraits, but I’m with you on #10 about not getting family member portraits done for the most part tho homie, idk for me it doesn’t really have to do with the potential quality of the tat it’s more about where to draw the line, cuz it’s like if I start getting family members tatted then I know Ima end up wanting to get them all to be fair or whatever, so I’d basically end up with like a full body suit of my family tree & have no room left for other tats lol

    • @finjafanXD
      @finjafanXD 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Don't worry, I'm sure your artist will find a way :) My first tattoo was the biohazard symbol at the lower third of my forearm. The third tattoo was a bigger b&g piece from shoulder to ellbow. Last year i decided to get a blackwork sleeve and i wanted to keep both older tattoos. I told my artist what i wanted and he figured out how to incorporate both tattoos into the sleeve. I wanted some floral design at the lower part, so he placed a big flower "behind" the old symbol and blacked out the free space (hence the blackwork). He also connected the ends of the other tattoo with the blackwork part and did a touch up so that the black parts of the older tattoo are fresh and pitch black again. I love how it turned out, it fits so well now. But yeah, I only plan complete sleeves / body parts from now on :D

    For the lettering on the neck, I’d actually vote horizontal. Not only that, but only on the right side of the neck. The reason being is that we read from left to right, and I think it just makes more sense for the lettering to be facing the same way as the person wearing it. I find that vertical lettering on the neck kinda has the same problem, since we don’t read vertically, but then the letters themselves are still facing forward. To me, it just throws everything off. And at least with horizontal, you could potentially write more than just one word, maybe like a song verse or a poem or something. Can’t really do that with vertical words. Of course, this only applies to languages where you read left to right. If you want arabic or hebrew script, best put it on the left side. As for languages where you read downwards, the vertical script might not be so bad, but I’ve never seen Chinese or Japanese script on the neck. My two cents!

    Pretty late here, but I've just started my tattoo adventure (Got my first one in November, and now I'm basically addicted lmao), and I just finished my biggest piece yet, a portrait of Peter Steele, framed with deadly nightshade. It was something that I planned for a long ass time, and I went to an artist that specialised in portraits. It turned out so beautiful, and I kinda teared up when I saw the finished piece. When I see people with botched portraits, I can't help but feel sorry for them. If they only were willing to research their artists, they probably would've gotten a much better outcome.

    I disagree on the neck tattoo: I like the lyrics more if it's horizontal, rather than vertical, because it (for me) seems like taking up more space & leaving the neck look less empty.
    Also, slight disagree on the old, faded tats, because inked elderly people are cool asf.

    the first 3 are actually some of my fav kind, to make one line perfect is so hard to do, and because its just one line every flaw you will see, so its an art to make a line without flaws. and besides that, i love that it looks so simple. but isnt actually. its minimalistic therefor all there is has to be perfect. i also think it looks elegant.
    for the black band, i think it originally came from the maori but it needs more figures and meaning around it. the black band is just an unfinished maori tat :P but same thing as with the line, it is simple so it has to be perfect, and thats what makes it beautiful imo. and the mini tattoos i like because they are also delicate, every small mistake you see, so dont make them :P; also for example in korea, tattoos are still judged upon a lot, and a small tattoo wont be noticeable at first glance(unless you have it on your face XD). older people also tent to get mini tattoos.
    stick n poke if you do it correctly can be beautiful. i make dot art alot. and with stick n poke you can place the dots perfectly where you want them. it only takes wayyyy longer then with a machine and thus more painfull. i recommend machine, but for a small dot art thingy its fine, it has its own beauty.
    tattoo that runs over into your hand... the last sentence you said, exactly my thoughts XD but i think its hilarious, hey jesus, wanna help me out here?😏🤣🤣
    letters in neck vertically for sure!
    portrets can be very beautiful but its very rare they work out as good as the picture. but when they do 😍
    love the vid :)

      See personally for me I think this is the wrong way to go, I did it and I personally regret it. I do believe you should go bigger because you will be able to deal with the pain. I have talked to many many people about this and I've had many people send in Tattoo saying they are glad that they went bigger than doing a small little piece to test out their pain. If you want to test out pain then you get a tattoo in a spot that isn't super valuable

    My opinion as a person in the art world, I don’t like realistic random tattoos. They have skills the tattoo artist (some of them) but its just a bunch of google images into photoshop. And the female faces of random models put a halph lion there and there you go. At least old school tattoos, has more culture/history in it.
    But your body do you.
