Biggest con (before working from home), has been a few run-ins with some religious zealots yelling that I've descecrated my body. Twice in the last year resulted in physical assaults by older men when I didn't take their concerns about my immortal soul seriously. Have to hide them while I travel, just to be safe. (Have a full back piece, and full sleeve. Also, I'm a woman, so your mileage will vary if you're a dude)

Hello ,really nice video and def agree with all your points.I have both my arms sleeved, upper chest, shoulder blades, base of my neck in back, tops of fingers, both calves, inside of my knee and top of thigh ..😅When I used to work in retail I would get looked at like a zoo animal sometimes if I wore short sleeves.I also was grabbed and asked after if they could touch my tattoos"After the fact" or asked are they real...lol.I'm 49 years old now and the last professional tattoo I got was over 10 years ago.As I get older my pain tolerance has lowered so I'm fine with no more tattoos. Some of my finger tattoos I did stick n poke and they def look homemade but I still love them.It can be a big,BIG con sometimes when people only see your tattoos and not you as a person.I want to wear long sleeves and a turtleneck sometimes but that wouldn't be me really🤣😎🤘🏻

i have 12 facial tattoos and my head is pretty much done, hands, neck, arms. It has affected my job situation; despite, working in piercings for a lil while i had a seizure and could no longer pierce; so, its been hard to try to get a natural. Most think I'm a drug user or excon or intimidating.... I pet sit on the side and work with kids just very very minorly....

I don’t mind being asked if they mean anything, but what does bother me is if someone asks me why I would get (insert imagery I have here) with a judging tone. Like they expect some grand meaning but couldn’t possibly fathom how a pirate ship could be meaningful. Also, I sometimes don’t feel like talking about the meaning. It’s just pretty, okay?

One thing people don't realize (and will come to many as a con) is that even though they are "permanent", if you want them to look killer down the road, you have to take care of them. Moisturize, sunblock, etc... people who don't do it end-up (usually) with tatts that don't look as good/crisp/fresh after a few years. Even my oldest sleeve (16 years old) looks amazing, but it comes at the cost of lots of sunblock and lotion. Jobwise: I made sure that all my ink can be concealed with my longsleeve shirts. It's not a matter of shame but more of looking professional and also (a big also) a matter of me wanting to know "who" sees my ink (as you said, don't want to only be the "tattooed guy").

As a tattoo artist myself. The biggest con I've noticed is clients thinking they know everything about our art and industry, telling others what to look for, what is right or wrong etc. Giving misleading information to viewers. I will always support creators and anyone working hard to make a living. But if anyone not in our industry try to give advice to others it's a huge insult and disrespect to any artist.

I remember hearing some great advice that "your tattoos should never be bigger than your personality". However, I've noticed that that's definitely unavoidable at times with bigger and more visible pieces. I'm a pretty normal looking guy, and have a full-color leg sleeve. The biggest adjustment for me has been getting use to some people staring or giving me dirty looks, but that's how it goes. At some point, you just have to be ready to accept that this is how you're advertising yourself to the public.

Hey, great video! One con I had was that either due to a nickel allergy, or to the black ink used to outline my work, I still get reactions and raised linework when I am stressed or sick, and it's been over a year. I'd originally planned to get two or three more tattoos since then, but, well, for one the world lost its mind, and for the other, I'd like a little more time to see if my skin stops reacting when my immune system flares up.
Was interested in the title of your vid because after forty+ years I finally got my first tattoo in fall of 2019. A small part of that decision was to give the world a big, stylish middle finger, because the main reason I was finally moving forward with my tattoo dreams was I stopped being able to work because of progressive vision loss. Sweartagawd, being visually impaired ranks right up there with having face and neck tattoos in terms of feeling disenfranchised from society, and generally being unemployable af.

I work in retail and I have a sleeve that you can see because I wear a t-shirt and one of my regular customers told me that tattoos were a disgrace, completely unprompted. I mean, what is the point? The only outcome of that comment would be me getting upset, so what is the purpose? Luckily I'm not a more sensitive soul, I was just shocked that someone would feel the need to voice something so unkind.

All of my tattoos have sentimental meaning. Myself and my 7 closest friends recently got the most emotional tattoos for us; A phrase a dear old friend we lost to suicide would always say, "Never pause the music." When I get asked about it, or about the streetlights, the headphones, I like explaining how they mean a lot to me because of a friend. The streetlights reference a song called City Lights, the headphones are my passion and commitment to wanting to not only always listen to music, but to create it. The next one I have planned is going to be a down-scaled version of my Epiphone vintage Les Paul special, my first proper guitar and the gateway to my desire to make music.
The only real cons I've noticed are the sorts of people who judge based on the fact you just have tattoos and don't even question what they mean, why you got them, or just condemn you for having ink in general. Some employers can be biased about it as well, but I'd never work for someone who wouldn't at least ask about my ink, whether it's just flashy or it's meaningful.

I think the biggest con for me is how anxious I get with my tattoos. Back then any cut, pimple, scratch, bug bite or burn wouldn’t matter to me. But whenever any of these things happen on my tattoos I freak out thinking that the entire piece will be ruined. Because of this I am pretty cautious. I’ve even stopped camping out in the woods because I’m afraid to wake up with a bunch of bug bites all over my art. No matter what though I love each and every piece I got.

At the end of the day, its the person behind the ink that makes them have meaning. That can be negative or positive. So yes be wise/aware with your selection/placement of ink and know yourself above all. But most importantly become a better person with or without it not allowing the ink to define you, rather detach and become what you admire.

Can't wait for the next video! My biggest con is the fear of being judged in my profession...I am a student and I am slowly getting tattooed, but stay conscious of visible tattoo placement just to feel more comfortable with the process of getting more and more tattooed so that I can appreciate and assume the art.
The sunscreen part is so true for me. I worry about it so much !

My biggest con (or rather doubt) as an untattoo'ed person who is soon getting a tattoo is, that I fear I wont like the design as much later in my life.
I am going to get a tattoo that certainly is something i really associate with and that has meaning for me, but that doesnt mean my taste in the design won't change.
Even worse would be if I were to see a similar, but better looking tattoo on someone else.

Kinda an old response but if ur rlly worried about the design draw it yourself. My middle name was my grandfathers name who passed and we were very close so I drew a design with multiple things we mutually liked and my family loved it and I love it. Regardless of if it looks cool or not designing it yourself is always the way to go. bc it’s personal and unique to you

The cons are definitely greater when you have head, neck, hands, and fingers done unfortunately I have experienced first hand. I did iron work before and it’s been tough to transition into the corporate world. I never thought I’d want to when I started getting all of these tattoos. Here I am 10 years later though

I agree, Im constantly thinking of my next tattoo and get another as soon as I have enough in the savings. I really enjoy the tattooing process and the joy of having a fresh tattoo. I have around 30 tattoos now but I ALWAYS need more. I see myself as a tattoo collector, like a hobby lol

I got my first tattoo soon after I turned 18 and I went big and dont regret it at all, We had to break it down in 2 session. 7 - 8 hours for each session. And I'm getting my inner upper arm tattooed on the 21st and I cant wait. But I just watched your video on how bad the pain is on that spot & I'm a little nervous but more excited than nervous lol. And its a very detailed piece so ima be sitting there for a while but im ready for the pain 💪🏽love your content man. 🔥

My biggest con is tattoos in the work place. The last job I had, which I left a year and a half ago, wanted everyone to cover all tattoos. So you're right, even though tattoos acceptance has improved you got to be careful with the work place.
My tattoo is hidden for the most part but my next tattoo is going to be much more visible. Hearing your experience does make me a little nervous about people's judgments but I think I'll be okay.
Also the addiction and the boost of confidence from body modification is real for me too.

Absolutely in agreement here. I've recently had my third tattoo on my upper arm to complement the others in the same place. I'd love to get more lower down my arms but am reticent due to perceptions at work. You could say I'm not exactly a shrinking violet, so being covered in ink is not the best idea. At this time.

All my tattoos are inner arm so at a “walking” or “resting” position they are invisible I just got them so there isn’t a con that I believe I have. Maybe a little regret sometimes but then I remember why I got them so it goes away. I also always wear long sleeves 💀

My first tattoo was on my thigh, so nobody noticed it unless I showed them. But my second tattoo was on my forearm, and that one was a memorial tattoo. I chose a design that isn't an obvious memorial tattoo, but it has caused some awkward conversations when people ask "What does it mean?" Most people just comment on the beauty of it, which was the whole point. I always recommend to people who get a memorial tattoo to get something symbolic that means something to you about the person you lost, but that it isn't obvious on first glance. The last thing you want is people stopping you on the street asking who died for the rest of your life.

There are 46 years between my first and second tattoo one hidden, one visible. Both because they were meaningful to me. I will admit that after the second tat (one week ago), I find myself wondering what's next, and where will I put it? ;)
