Just got my arm done and for me the entire process of getting a tatoo are enjoyable but I like to go into the process with very detailed rules.. the tattoo are a permanent reminder of my decision. So it is a important process.. almost like a ritural.. making everything ready for the aftercare , picking the artist, comming up with design and when they day comes I tap into some dark mental stuff when the pain hits a hard 10 .. "This is a pain I choose, it is not permanent but the outcome are, that is the reward" .. many ask "is it not painfull?" "dont you use nummingcreme?" .. the pain are important, it is not permanent and the pain changes". It is a part of getting your tattoo, a test of willpower and mental focus.
After many years and many tattoo sessions, I believe that shorter tattoo sessions of max. 4-5 hours per session have a great positive influence on good and quick healing. It's more time-consuming for large projects, but I just don't find sessions of 6, 8 or 10 hours good for the body. And the older you get, the more important I find the duration of the sessions
At 64 and getting inked since I was 15, I can attest to that. 5 hours seems to be it for me. I could sit for longer, but the healing is more difficult, particularly if an area gets heavy saturation.
Definitely agree with both. A good sleep goes such a long way and avoiding caffeine helps aswell. But for me I always have it before 😂 I literally start my sessions with either a double shot of espresso or a red bull
I've got my first "big" tattoo session in a couple weeks (I have one on my calf but it only took not quite an hour). It's gonna be probably 4-5 hours on my forearm. Nervous but also SUPER excited! Thanks for all the great videos so I can make sure I'm fully prepared
Been following you a while and always like picking up little tips from other tattoo enthusiasts. I’ve got both arms sleeved , chest done and currently halfway through a leg sleeve . Still finding out some new info from guys like yourself ! What the tattoo community is all about
I did my elbow and forearm last Sunday. I got to follow the moisture routine! My artist was beyond happy and thankful. It made the tattoo go smoother and better! Great tips Justin ♥️
Bro your vids are always the best . U have a honest opinion on tatoos and really good reviews on before and after your tatoos. Keep up the awesome content .
I like to get new ink in the winter (which I just did last week) so that being out in the sun is less of a factor for me - so it has months before summer hits. Also, I primarily work from home, so for this new one, I can be here, wearing what I want so fabric isn't touching the new work (forearm) and possibly sticking to it
That’s definitely a big thing to get them in winter. UNFORTUNATELY alot of the time we’re at the mercy of the artists schedule and for many people it falls in the summer
Can’t blame them. Crazy to me how all this seems so obvious and simple yet it’s also not. It’s taken me along time with a lot of experience under my belt to get to where I am and I’m still learning. But that’s why I’m here, hopefully these rules/ tips help others and saves acouple years/sessions of them having to learn the hard way
My tattoo took me almost 2 years to decide I had the design ready and placement and then I found the pose the day of and got it all done. It’s a cell phone size pixel graphic. It was all worth it in the end after waiting for as long as I did. Now my friends are trying to get an appointment with my artist
Watching this video has made me feel better knowing I do all of these already. The other one that I’ve taken on that goes alongside the “don’t rush the process” rule and that is to not rush the artist. I’d much rather he takes his time and does the tattoo correctly, than have a moan about the time he’s taking, put more pressure on him and cause him to make an error due to trying to speed it up. Rather pay the money for as many sessions as it takes, than try to rush it for fewer sessions and have something the artist isn’t happy with, or worse, something I’m unhappy with.
I have 3 tattoos with plans to get a bunch more. 2 of my tattoos were about an hour and my 3rd was like 5 or 6 I believe (it’s been almost a year since). The way I prepared was eating a bigger breakfast than normal but not enough to make me feel bloated, I showered, I listened to music before and during, and I made sure wore clothes that weren’t tight on my skin
I've just had my 12th tattoo sonic and crash bandicoot on my hands getting my left sleeve started on 26th September. Lots heritage going into this English rose Italian grape vine and Scottish thistle.
I have a video already on that but it was while ago! I’ll make an updated video soon but until then my bags pretty much stayed the same for what I pack
I think you make really great and educational videos 😊 they've helped me out a lot, even just with calming my nerves, haha Got my second tattoo two days ago & I couldn't be happier with it! ^^
My own personal rule is always bring a snack, particularly something that contains protein, carbs, and fat. The way your body reacts to pain can be unpredictable, I find that getting tattooed makes me a bit loopy, and having food right away settles that down. I like granola bars, they fit the bill nicely and they’re easy to pack. I’ve seen the same artist for my last 4 tattoos, and it’s become part of the ritual that when she’s letting my fresh tattoo breathe and bleed a bit before the final cleaning and the Saniderm, I go sit quietly and have my granola bars and some water. I would also advise a newbie to wear black to get a tattoo. Things can get messy, and I’ve had a few artists who got a bit anxious if I wear lighter color clothes to get a tattoo, even if I reassure them that these are clothes that are fine to get dirty (clearly, some artists have dealt with clients that get mad over a stained shirt). My default tattoo outfit is now black shorts and a black tank top, even in the dead of winter I just wear them as a bottom layer.
Hi Justin, I first want to say thank you for making these informative and helpful videos. I'm going for my very first large half sleeve tattoo in 2 weeks. I have little memorial ones and one little one for our son. I feel like I have so much more knowledge of what to do beforehand. And the tattoo bag, man, that's super helpful to know thank you. I have a question, though, on your experience on this question. I initially scheduled an appointment with an artist. And then I saw so many negative reviews for the artist, and it scared me away that I have made an appointment elsewhere with amazing reviews. I have told the artist I was going to cancel, and I am giving 2 weeks' notice, and I want a refund on my deposit and haven't heard any response back. I'm coming from out of state. What is your experience with requesting a tattoo deposit refund request with ample time?
Do some people just heal slower? I have 2 full sleeves, one done in spring, summer, and the other currently during winter and 3 weeks in on some areas it is still flaking and crusty. The artist I go to just says I heal slow ( I do have eczema and naturally dry non oily skin)
Yeah sometimes that can happen. Everyone’s body’s different. I’ve seen many people heal their tattoos in less than 2 weeks and then we have your case where it’s a little longer
Rules I follow: shower 2hrs b4 appointment, deodorant, no perfume (ppl have allergies/sensitiveto smells), hydrate, eat 1-2hrs b4 appointment & bring a surgery drink in case blood sugar drops.
Rules? What rules???😁 I watched MANY of your videos weeks before getting my tattoos...👍👌 EXCEPT this one😮 I DID NOT break any rules🫡 Artist called us both a couple of bad mother Xuckers(just bad ass for my wife) he tattooed. We were 100% ready, didn't move, twitch, whine, cry wimper, etc, etc. We laid there like a log for 4 hours, just having a nice chat with him as he laid it on us...he gave us a nice discount too, for bring such a nice pleasant customer🎉 Yes, I fully expected mine to hurt like hell, nearly decided NOT to get my half sleeve, anticipating the pain😅...NOT, I DIDN'T WHIMP OUT😎 Neither did my wife😎
I'm going to bet that no matter the hype that you gave your self about its going to hurt still didn't prepare you for the pain you felt with your foot or nipples being tattooed.
I also have my fair share of tattoos, but definitely taking these seriously this time around cus I’ll be getting one of my palms done this month! 🥹 thank you for sharing the water intake one cus I aaaaallways don’t drink enough water in general!

What is the best diet before tattoos
That’s not something I can answer because everyone’s body is different. You know better than anyone what your body likes and doesn’t sooo go off that
Moisturising skin and drinking lots of water is good advise in general. Same with being sun smart.
Ofcourse!!! And yet so many people don’t do any of it 🥲
@@justinkd Men in particular. Unfortunately it's still seen as not manly. IMO a man looking after his skin is both manly and smart.

Getting my first tattoo in 6 days! Been on a 2 year waiting list. The timing of this video couldn’t have been more perfect. Thank you!
2 year wait list? Damn bro I only had to wait a month

I came across your channel for when I got my 1st tattoo 5 years ago & your videos have been of such great help to me
Glad to know I was able to help you so long ago and even more happy to have you still coming back 🥹🙏🏼
Great reminder, have next season Friday and just getting all my stuff prepped.
This video showed up in my suggested today, and the timing couldn't be more perfect since I have my appointment to get my first ever tattoo tomorrow!

As a tattoo artist and i would say great client as well . These are all Spot on . But so many people fail to have been taught this yet

My rule for the gas-beano! Take a digestive enzyme with everything you eat that day, maybe even before your dinner the night before.

💯 💯💯💯
When are you finishing your body suit?!
Soon hopefully! Ain’t easy when your new artist is half way around the world

I DID NOT break any rules🫡
Artist called us both a couple of bad mother Xuckers(just bad ass for my wife) he tattooed.
We were 100% ready, didn't move, twitch, whine, cry wimper, etc, etc.
We laid there like a log for 4 hours, just having a nice chat with him as he laid it on us...he gave us a nice discount too, for bring such a nice pleasant customer🎉
Yes, I fully expected mine to hurt like hell, nearly decided NOT to get my half sleeve, anticipating the pain😅...NOT, I DIDN'T WHIMP OUT😎 Neither did my wife😎
And thats why i only can afford twice a year 2-3 hrs a piece with my artist.
Any news tattoos coming up?
Yeah. Going to France in April to start the leg
Have a light lunch, drink some coffee, get super high, have a great time. Obviously be clean lol
I'm going to bet that no matter the hype that you gave your self about its going to hurt still didn't prepare you for the pain you felt with your foot or nipples being tattooed.
It worked for the nipples. The foot it didn’t because I wasn’t expecting it to be as bad as it was… sooo lesson learned there for the next foot 😂
Yeah dude, I think nipples would have to be way up there on the pain meter.
Na it’s funny I’m getting tatted 2morrow this a sign
Don’t eat anything stinky and SHOWER 😉
This looks sus af 4:15
You like that baby 😏
I also have my fair share of tattoos, but definitely taking these seriously this time around cus I’ll be getting one of my palms done this month! 🥹 thank you for sharing the water intake one cus I aaaaallways don’t drink enough water in general!
rule #1, justin doesn't follow rules, not even his own
Exactly! I’m just talking complete shit 💁🏼♀️
Don’t eat gassy foods.
Noted 😂
Very very important rule
