  • I tested my new FURminator for cats for the first time. It got a ton of hair. Please note: Be careful how often you brush your cat. Doing this too often can seriously thin out your cat's back hair.

    As a warning, furminators have blade in it (nothing that will cut your cat) but it will keep puling hair out until there's nothing left. You need to get a feel for when you've removed the undercoat (fluffy stuff) and top before stripping too much top coat. Also run the furminator along your bare arm first, it won't feel too good. This will give you a feel for how lightly you want to brush the cat, if you pull the brush up at a slight angle it won't run over their skin as much and will still remove plenty of undercoat. Cats have very thin skin and it's easy to give them brush burn if used too hard. Brush burn is a sort of rash, you can part the fur and see red skin with the stripes (in the direction it was brushed) its painful for the cats and there's not much to be done about it other than wait for it to heal. And it will make the cat less likely to want to be brushed in the future. Read instruction carefully.

      Very great post. I love that you can explain what he's doing wrong, give info on how that can effect the cat and give better ways to do it without bashing the owner or being rude.

      Another warning, these furminators are not good for long haired cats. You pull all their protective under layer out. Seems at first that you are doing a good job but later on their skin gets wounds and scabs - a cat groomer told me to buy a metal comb and a slicker brush. So i did and that works so much better.. happy Kitty too😻

      Furminatores DONT have a blade in them, it’s a device that’s usually used to groom cats during shedding seasons. If it’s used on daily bases it might cause some balding spots (due to access brushing, which pulls more hair than intended) but furminators never hurt cats if it’s used properly.

    This product works too well! I tried it on my cat and it's a huge pain. So much fur came off. And like the cat in the video my cat also keeps rolling side to side, so he gets caught up in the fur that has already been extracted. It's just a huge mess.
    One thing I will say, it looks like the guy in the video was applying too much pressure while brushing the cat, that could be why his fur was thinning. And you should also not spend too much time in one area or will irritate your cat's skin

      yes and another thing the cat will typically need to smell the brush in your hand. My cat loves his furminator he thinks he's getting a spa day from me. if I hold it up to him and he rubs against it I know he wants me to brush him with it.

    Hi - I hope you don't mind my saying, but it looks like you are applying a lot of pressure while brushing. YOu say it looks as though the fur will just keep coming - and it will - until the cat has no fur left.

    Yes, the Furminator works very well, but I get swatted at a lot. If they roll over, I just do the other side! It works better for shorter haired cats. I don't put as much pressure on it as you did, there is a sharp edge and I am afraid I will cut them. My cats sure get less hair balls, though!

    Well don't make him bald. If it's summer time that's his winter coat you pulled out.
    Update: I baught one too. But after the loose hair comes out then you start pulling the rest out. If you want to thin the cats hair in the summer this is ideal. Also you can clean the carpet, the cat towers and other things with this tool. I love it. You can tell if your vaccum is really picking up the hair too. It's worth 25.00 at target.

    My cat is a short hair but pudgy (on a diet!). She gets knots on her back she can't reach. This does work BUT not all cats are as chill as this one. We have very short sessions, until she snaps and let's me know she's done, lol. Just FYI if you have a "spirited" cat like me. They don't all love or tolerate it well.

    • @clamum

      +Patty Dixon Yeah my cat doesn't sit still even with the cheap double sided brush that he tolerates. With the Furminator, a couple strokes is about all I can get and then he's scratching and biting. Sucks cause man the thing really works on the hair.

    He's such a good cat! So laid back and very trusting of you, I think because you seem so nice gentle and calm with him! He reminds me of my Ozzy, he lets me brush him. I'll be brushing for a long time and he'll have had enough he starts to walk away, I'll tell him in a real chill voice... oh come on back Oz we're almost done, please... it feels good, doesn't it and he'll walk real slow, looking back at me I can tell he's thinking about it and within 2 mins. comes back, gives me a look as if to say.... yeah you're right .... he's as good as gold, plops back down, it cracks me up... 😹😺😽 and he's so good letting me cut his nails, he'll get a attitude at first but I just talk to him like he's my little kid, and I hear this inner growl and I'll just talk to him, don't be mad, I'm not hurting you you know I'm almost done and please just wait a minute more oh, you're such a good boy. Okay I'll stop about my cat conversations , but talking to them they understand and they're smart, I stay calm and it keeps him calm. I don't go chasing, yelling get back here. Hey kids are so much smarter than people give them credit for. I guess this is what happens when you live alone LOL but I seen spray on Amazon that helps them from shedding so much I'm thinking it holds their hair down like Hairspray or something I don't know. His fur isn't laying everywhere, it's more like little dust bunnies here and there which isn't bad to deal with. but he never shed as much as since I did this super duper power brushing him 2 days in a row I brushed and every direction for about an hour and I swear I replenished and that the blood flowing into those hair follicles! And it's been hell since I always brushed him. But before you could always come in my house and never walk away with fur on your clothes now it's a different story, the fur is on my couches and I can see loose pieces of fur on him so you pet them and you get a handful of fur yuck. I don't know what happened. it was going to say he got old but why would this happen overnight

    I used to have a cat that looks exactly like yours went missing a couple years ago . Probably no surprise he shed too. I loved that thing at first until I realized that brush and brushes like it CUT fur not just loose fur. So to start from square on I got my clippers and took all his fur off. He kinds liked it. It was summer time feel like he enjoyed the lack of fur. Anyway
    Once his hair started growing back I'd use brushes meant for short hair and gradually went to brushes meant for long hair as long as I brushed his hair about 3 times a week. Shedding was never really an issue. Just couldn't be lazy about it

    this is not a furminator, they all have a name plate on the top and a release button on the back to push the hair out. This is a much less expensive deshedding brush. I have 2 of them and they do cut the hair. run it over yourself and see how sharp it really is.

      >>>"this is not a furminator," WHO CARES!! It does the same thing>>>
      A lot of people care. Because usually bootleg knockoffs DO NOT do the same thing.
      The difference between a licensed and original name-brand,,,and a bootleg knockoff are normally pretty glaring.
      The knockoff may/may-not use Stainless Steel. If not, it will rust.
      The knockoff may/may-not use poisonous dyes and unsafe plastics.
      I'm not gonna keep listing all the reasons,...use your head.
      You get what you pay for.

    It's obvioulsy a blade not a comb, so it's cutting through all the ca'ts wooly hair and not just "removing" died hair... not the best option but owners seem to be happy as it removes a LOT of hair. I prefer my cat with his natural look though and use a regular comb daily.

    that is more hair than the size of the kitty!

    Feel you. Have two cats and black lab can see the fur now 😆 that's showing this looks like worth the money to get them.

    Very cute cat. I could get away with using this on my cat, Cheetah, because she loves to be brushed but Oscar, not so much. He thinks it’s a game, and I’ve come away with a few minor battle scars.

    Are you suppose to do this until there's no more fur coming out?

    • @VictorStuber
      @VictorStuber  9 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      shaz omr definitely not. When I first got it, I did it too often and my cat's hair started thinning a little on his back so I stopped doing it for a while. So be careful not to overdo it.

      shaz omr Do it like 10 minutes once a week and a little more during shedding season and as well with regular brushing every day and your cat should be fine.

      +Victor Stuber does it really takes out the undercoat or cutting it? ive been checking furminator, and im thinking wether its just a normal brush or a blade comb? After u use it, does the cat's hair seems so thin? I have a british shorthair, and been worried that furminator might thinned their fur so much...

    • @VictorStuber
      @VictorStuber  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Vanessa Arzadon It does not cut the hair. It takes out only the undercoat. After combing the cat, you should not notice any thinning of hair unless you do it too often. I did this when I first got the comb and stopped after I noticed it.

    Use cotton buds gently get the bits on the edge of your lovely cat or use a wet ball of cotton wool to wipe it out. Doesn't it bother you?

    • @katywonder4802
      @katywonder4802 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This type of brush has a blade in it so it cuts the undercoat out as you go. Mainly good for indoor cats who don’t shed seasonally

  • @SmolBean98

    I use a horse brush. LOL the brush I use it meant to remove shed and dead skin off horses. My cats shed like hell and I could make a sweater out of their fur. It's insane.

    • @sazure2
      @sazure2 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Diet can influence shedding. Cats (all pets) need essential fatty acids and other living things, enzymes and even raw foods.

      Okay???? Lmao I know this but it won't change how my cat (s) shed by much. C;

    • @sazure2
      @sazure2 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It may - that said I looked up the horse brush which led to a brand for cats (those that design horse brushes) and found the Sleekex (for horses dogs and cats) It is designed like the "barbs" on a cat's tongue. So thanks for the "tip". lol. (I have a degree in nutrition and pre vet - many don't know about diet and dead foods so just mentioned it in case it may help.) They still all shed, I know mine did even with superior foods.
      If you have a link to the brush you use can you provide it - thanks ahead if you can.

      Long link. Yikes.
      Anyways, that's the comb I use. It's pretty much supposed to get any loose hair that's deep in the horse's coats. I figured it'd be the best one I had and works pretty good. I've heard of the Sleek comb. One of my friends had it for her horses. Lol worked like a charm.
