My fiancé is a Filipina so seeing things like this is uplifting. BBM, like his father, is a good speaker (especially in English) and I feel he is continuing the strong relationship of the USA and Philippines. So many people say he’s controversial due to domestic affairs however both Marcoses are excellent in foreign affairs especially with USA. I pray our future together continues to get stronger. With the focus the USA put into places like Japan and South Korea which with these people’s strong work ethic built their economies to first world status. Sadly the Philippines should have long had this attention since our histories have crossed way before WW2 however Asian investment at such a scale to be effective, was not the norm when the Philippines was a territory and sadly thus the people demanded independence from USA. I personally believe if we have invested more in defense when MacArthur was field marshal of Philippine army, and we had successfully defended during the invasion of 1941, Filipinos would have been more inclined to lean toward statehood rather than independence. Sadly the USA of this time was rather racist and the idea of a non white region having equal representation in congress was not thought highly of despite the Filipinos being a first class people who work as hard as any German and are devout as any Irish or Italian… and most importantly, they have a wider knowledge of English than many other Asian states especially at that time but even today Filipinos study university courses with English language. American imperialism could stand to be a positive thing in a world where this word (imperialism) is cringing like a swear to hear. Thanks to the influence of American control to Philippines, both law and government has been developed and more importantly a national identity has been developed. I think we as Americans would have remained part of or extremely close English empire if the French won the French and Indian war, but the British returned to liberate the colonies in 1770s… however in the 1940s, this scenario happened with the Japanese invasion of American territory (Philippine Commonwealth aka American colonial Philippines) and the American army return in 1944-45. But with the focus of occupation of Japan and soon the global conflict of idealism in Korea a few years later combined with Philippine desire of independence, the dream of not only statehood, but also much foreign investment and military investment went to North Pacific area and when it finally returned, it was wasted on south Vietnam when that should have went to Philippines. The catholic faith is what I think kept communism from being a threat to the islands but unfortunately this diverted funds to areas and American client states in Indochina which was a waste as we know. I mean the USA fought WITH Filipinos in WW2 side by side so we know they can fight if we supply them. The huks, though threatening, wasn’t enough of threat to gain American attention for military funding and any investment money was squandered of things for south Vietnam where so many inside people were actually working for the north anyway and with the collapse of the south in 1975, led also to the collapse of interest in this region which included Philippines.
Today however the USA is waking up to the importance of the indopacific region and I believe if this time we take the Philippines seriously, we can gain do much strategically as far as containing china including another close proximity land mass to Taiwan and in fact part of the large island chain starting from Japan that makes a wonderful shield for pacific but also with India on the rise, the Philippines through ASEAN can and would represent American interests in what is called fastest growing region in world. India has its English influence from its colonial period and thus with the English language and technology making it so these nations can conduct more trade even at lower levels and thanks to language we all can share some kind of common ground for diplomatic alliances which ultimately is what will bring the investors of the west. I pray that despite my crockpot theories, that the majority of my argument makes sense and I pray for further Philippine-American partnership

Now please excuse my naivety as I am still investigating more about the revolution in 1986 and what caused these people to oust the father of the leader who was elected only a year ago. Perhaps something shady in these dealings but my hope is the prosperity of common Filipino people (like my fiancé) while providing cheap investment opportunities for common Americans (like me 😅) so I may be biased however I will study the revolt that happens somewhat close to when this video was filmed

School was a must and the government provide NUTRI BUNNS free for all Elementary we love going to school because of that and we didi not like to miss out one. The former first lady was representvthe ladies from Philippines with dignity. I still remember a small transistor where I used to listen to news and dramas. Madam Imelda is praised and highly respect to any nation she went... More than celebrity. When Marcos fall destroyed by hatred and bitterness Philippines image was fallen too. So sad. Am happy BBM made it. This will show the world tha indeed God never sleep for 32 years protecting them.

If your Ilocano then yes, but if your from the rest of the Philippines then a big NO! He's a tyrant, a dictator and a murderer. He ruled the Philippines from 1966 to 1986 and used Martial Law as a cover to plundered the Philippine economy. No one can question or criticize him or you will never be seen again. We used to be one of the riches countries in Asia, but after his was kicked out in 1986, the Filipinos learned that we were already $28 billion dollars in dept.

@@Loimike31 Because Cory Aquino made decisions that put us down to the lower ranks. She didn't even continue the Bataan powerplant. She sold Meralco to the Lopez. As the government, you're supposed to BORROW money TO MAKE MONEY. It's a simple business strategy. Para maging successful business mo, kaylangan may puhunan ka. Kung walang pera, so kaylangan mangutang ka. Do you know why the economy increased a little today? Because of the infrastructures that he built. The NLEX, SLEX for instance, were used as business transportation. Those were to generate revenue. The US has over $25 trillion worth of debt. It is normal for a country to borrow money and then pay it back. $28 billion was nothing to make the Philippines prosper. Now when the Aquinos took over, they didn't continue projects and the blueprint that Marcos had set. She HAS NO BRAIN. Don't be stupid okay. Martial law was a way to discipline people. Look at the result of what the Aquinos made. Is there still discipline? Ang gulo gulo ng Pilipinas. Martial Law was a temporary governing strategy to protect the Filipino people from communism. It was a direct counter against the Soviet Union, Vietnam and China ruling style before. If the Marcos continued their plans, we could be the best country in Asia. It wasn't impossible. Still not impossible till this day. Being a dictator does not mean an evil person. The Russian president Putin is a dictator, but look at how powerful and disciplined the country is now. It's all about the person in charge, and their heart if they really have love for the people. The economy could have skyrocketed now because of how intelligent that human being was. Please research and educate yourself. The Aquinos made the Philippines poor.

Those allegations were merely pushed by the Liberal Party after he left the Philippines because they didn't have the balls to make up stories when Marcos was still in power. Ever wonder what happened to all the Projects that was supposed to be the property of the Public? After Marcos left, the liberal party divided all those properties for themselves (such as Meralco) and wrecked more havoc with their corruption for 2 decades. Kung saan maslumaganap and mga Drug Cartels and Poverty became worst, all the budget that was supposed to be used from the projects planned by FVM to improve the country was gone, binulsa ng mga Liberal Party. Dyan na nagsimula yung mga ghost projects, mga third rate materials na ginagamit sa mga school at kalsada na madaling masira. Aquinos destroyed the Philippines! They did it out of hatred and greed for power. Our country's recognition of the world nung umupo yang mga liberal party sa palace, nawala, pati mga world Heritage natin napabayaan for 2 decades! Proud to say that Ferdinand Marcos is the worlds greatest leader. And lahat ng yon sinayang ng mga pumalit sakanya, nakaka puatngina pinag titinda at priprivitize nila na imbis government owned ang mga industries, hectars of land, at multiple sites sa energy sector , not only that madami pang blue print ang naka laan para sa buong pilipinas di nila tinuloy. Yung bataan nuclear powerplant na natapos noong 1986 binasura lng nila. Within only 20 years imagine na kahit wala na si marcos by 1986 at hindi pinag titinda ang angakn ng gobyerno at tinuloy and buildbuildbuild project ni marcos e sana no problem ang pilipinas kaso ginawa nila nakakaputangina talaga. If you actually read about the history of the Marcos corruption you would have a very different view of Marcos. What kind of guy was Marcos? IN 1937 he shot his father's congressional opponent in the back and killed him. How do you think Dole and DelMonte got the plantations in Mindano? Marcos took a 30% cut but guaranteed them a profit in the first year. The fact was any foreign company setting up had to give Marcos cronies 30% of the companies shares of their subsidiary, but Marcos guaranteed them a profit in one year. I was an eye witness that the Philippines was a disgusting mess in the mid 80's. Manila was a disgrace to civilization, it was incredibly filthy. I was in Cebu and their was no traffic problem there were no cars. Why don't you buy yourself the book by former Marcos Press secretary Primitivio Mijares who gave an insider's account of the Marcos government and testified in the U.S. Congress. the book is called : " The CONJUGAL DICTATORSHIP OF FERDINAND AND IMELDA MARCOS". Mr Mijares was offered $100,000 not to testify to the U.S Congress and when he did he mysteriously was thrown out of a plane.

Calayugan Music Man , my dad one of his greatest soldier , as a matter of fact he's well known in philippines but doesnt matter to. Me :) ( RIP ) i believe him because i grow and see everything a kind and big heart man but dangerous
Ferdinand Marcos was not the first, or the last, president to abuse his power. But, certainly, he set a seemingly unbreakable record. The nightmare of his 21 years in power still haunts us today, a powerful, constant reminder of a chapter in our history that must never be repeated. But
To be fair, Marcos and Imelda did not invent wealth-flaunting. The elites have been doing that for generations well before he came to power.
Marcos taught us to be suspicious of leaders who acquire wealth.
Presidents who came after Marcos certainly ran into this problem. Yes, Philippine politics is still widely considered as an easy road to easy money, but too much greed is now generally accepted as being dangerous to one’s political career. And we have to give credit to Marcos for this, for making Filipinos extremely suspicious of political leaders who suddenly get rich.
Marcos taught us to disdain those who brazenly cheat in elections.
Now take note: I said “brazenly.” For I know, elections Philippine-style are still dirty and cheating-prone. But still, given our experience with Marcos, there’s a line, especially in national races, that I suspect candidates will not cross for fear of sparking a severe backlash.
I must confess that I was thrilled when Marcos imposed Martial Law. I was eight years old when it happened, and for a few weeks I didn’t have to go to school and there was nothing but cartoons on TV.
But then, once back in school, my schoolmates and I had to learn these new weird songs about the new order and how everything was great about the regime - and about Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos.
      Think North Korea!
Nowadays, epal politicians who like having their names and pictures on billboards and public places can expect to be criticized and attacked. We can thank Marcos and Imelda for this. In many ways, the anti-epal mood is rooted in how Filipinos grew so disgusted with the Marcoses.
What can be more epal than having gigantic bust of yourself constructed along a major highway you named after yourself , i dont blame you sir i hope you alright ' bless your heart

President Marcos I would say that you and President Duterte are truly the Hero of Filipino people. I maybe just a toddler during your time as a President of the Philippines but I truly appreciate what you did to our country! You will be forever in our hearts Sir🙏🥰❤

He said " I will fight until the last drop of my blood" but because of the humanitarian reason the force to leave. And I never noticed my tears dropped that time!!!

I'm honored and blessed during his time, enjoyed the free milk, bulgur, gardening at school and feeding every Friday with take home of crops to our families. No matter what enemies may say against him, we cannot change the good and best deeds he did. Bagong lipunan for BBM.

When I was a kid I remember having that inner pride that our country was superior in many things and that we respected Pres. Marcos so much, and I was born in 1971. I remember feeling that US and Phils. were close allies and Marcos seemed like forever but no comparison since he's the only president we knew. Look how FEM demanded such an audience! THat's why I am so against the idea of working abroad for foreign bosses.

I'm a Martial Law baby, I have no recollection of any human violence brought about by ML growing up, but my memories bring me during my elementary days, that where ever you are, whatever you're doing, when you hear the "Lupang Hinirang" being played or sang, you have to stop what you're doing until the last line of the song is done. In school we have the Green Revolution program, wherein at a certain period, there's booth per grade to display our best crop from our garden that we tilled in school, the parents and basically the community would come, yup we're taught to plant vegetables in school. Then everybody especially us children then, should be home by six o'clock in the afternoon. Nowadays, it's totally different, our children would stay outside even late at night, and as parent, we can't sleep waiting and worrying what could probably happen to them.
