I tried a bunch of stuff to solo step the mast on my getaway. All failed until I watched your video. Did exactly what you did and it worked like a charm. Thank you

Excellent video, thanks for sharing. I sail a hobie bravo with my 9 year old son. I've had my eye on the getaways, but rigging them for every sail is what's holding me back.

Thank you very much for this video. My 9 year old son has taken up sailing (which means I have too). We are really enjoying our Hobie Bravo, but I'm starting to wonder about steping up to a getaway for us this summer. Seeing how easily you have made it to step the mast is making my decision a bit easier. Any advice for convincing a wife that a Getaway is a good purchase?

What lake are you at? Kind of looks like Utah

Thanks Sean, Does your family still have the Hobie 18? I remember seeing years ago at your grandfather's ranch.

@@grandpalarry9389 We still do! When it's too windy to ski, we sail!

How does this work for lowering the mast solo? do you just reverse the process?

    • @TriathlonRocker

Yes. I simply reverse the process. I cinch the block and tackle to release the tension off the bridal. Then I remove the quick release pin and move the furler out of the way. Then I stand on the tramp and shoulder the mast. Then I gradually release the line and drop the mast.
