My theory:
The King Yoongi is the dark side of him and the Black haired Yoongi is the one who came up from Rags. And they have a constant battle of dominance. In the end the original one shoots the powerful one as a sign of killing off his dark side and not letting power change him.
Lyrics wise: He is dissing the haters.
Fun Fact: Yoongi is a pure royal blood. His is basically the grandson of Korea's last empress

My theory is that its the old him. Who has an older way of thinking and is a tyrant. Which is why the new him(the version that has a car and gun instead of a sword) and has a new way of thinking is here to dethrone him. Both are looking to kill each other because they want to be the one that stays. Out with the old in with the new.
I don't think so. He mentioned Gwanghae in the lyrics, which was a Joseon Dynasty King and there was a movie about him where he hired a look-a-like of a lower class to double for him because of multiple assassination attempts. Turns out the look-a-like ruled better and was more well-liked and they came into conflict with each other because the ral king turned mad/afraid of dying/arrogant. Maybe it's a double role.

Daechwita (대취타) is derived from the words great (대), to blow (취), and to beat a drum (타) and it describes the kind of music (often comprising of woodwinds and drums) that was played by a troupe of military musicians, particularly as a procession before the king. At the beginning of the MV, you can hear a man chanting and that was something that the leader of a daechwita would call out. 💜

I just got info that the MV is based off a Korean movie called The Masquerade. In the movie, there’s a fake king that rules while the real one is in hiding. I guess he ruled very cruelly so the real one ends up killing him. Both movie and mv share many similars things. Jino explains it better than me so check his reaction out if u want.

Daechwita was the traditional music played to let people know when the King or the royal military was coming through. Yoongi has said that the King represents his past self, the greedy selfish part of who he used to be, and the peasant is his more humble present self. Also, the butcher in the beginning is also the executioner; their look exchanged at the beginning was them plotting the betrayal and execution of the King. Also... it was Jin AND Jungkook in the fist fight behind Suga in the market. The antique gun he used to shoot the King.... is legitimately called Army.

It seems I have a different theory than most people. People keep thinking its Yoongi battling with himself but the lyrics very strongly make this seem like a diss track about someone/something rather than battling with himself. I think what is happening based on the lyrics is that the blonde yoongi is an imposter king and the BA looking Yoongi is the real king coming to take back his rightful throne. That’s why when yoongi is head banging with the blindfold the others head bang with him, and the executioner doesn’t kill him, bows down, and gives him the gun to take out the fake king. The blonde Yoongi looks like a king but doesn’t act like one, and sits up above everyone in the castle, swinging a sword at nothing, and giving orders while someone does his dirty work for him. The blacked haired yoongi, the real king, has people dancing in the streets with him one his way to take back the throne, and takes out his enemy with his own hands. Based on the lyrics line directly mentioning Bang PD and Tik Tok (not sure if there's any bad blood between BTS/BigHit and them) I think maybe this is related to all the companies/influential people (fake king) who’ve always tried to keep BTS down. They were always really slimy about it too usually using media outlets (executioner) to hype up false stories about the boys. I’m sure there’s a lot more to this than I actually know. I could’ve read this completely wrong lol but I think it makes sense.

Yas!!!! I've been waiting for this, loved this so much. Anitra and Caitlyn both getting wreaked by Suga and I'm here for it! Anitra when you stopped to appreciate Yoongi's undercut omg yes, he looks so good with it I don't know what it is but him and RM i find looks so good with undercuts (though RM is undercut and the kinda faux hawk look). He went off and I was loving it. The part with Bang PD dancing I laughed too with glee oh my gosh so good. I really loved how he came for some people that I don't think normally get called out like I especially like the line "That's your excuse for poppin' pills, cry me a river you got no skills". I think they definitely did a great job translating the lyrics to english on the official mv in an impactful way so it also sounds great in english as I've seen I think a more direct translation read " Doing drugs for such a petty excuse, I feel sorry for you, it’s just that you have no talent". But whether Yoongi had something specific in mind when he wrote that lyric, I think it could be a blanket statement that applies to many.

I got this from someone else but I totally agree with it. Their theory was that blonde Yoongi in the video was the Yoongi from his last mixtape and he got over all the struggles that he mentioned then and became to evil and greedy. And black haired Yoongi wanted to stay humble and remember where he came from, so he went to kill his other self off to do so. He mentions that he had everything and back then he just wanted more clothes and money but he already has that and he became greedy which is what he didn’t want to happen.
OMG yessss!! This reaction was everything. The amount of times I had to pause and calm myself from laughing lol (it's currently 3am where I'm at). I feel Caitlyn's pain. It was a lot to take in but OMG it was amazing. The lyrics, his voice, the production, the undercut, the visuals, the storyline, and of course Jinkook. Agust D2 is here to stay for a very, very long time.
So tidbit of info from my perspective, Yoongi was blond in the videos for the last AgustD videos and in this one the king Yoongi is blonde so it could symbolize him becoming powerful and forgetting where he came from. While black haired Yoongi is humble and gets rid of blonde arrogant Yoongi.

A little bit more about Daechwita, it is the traditional Korean music played when the King would leave the palace to walk, it was also played when the military was marching.

Daechwita is tricky because the actual translation is a hit or something but culturally a daechwita is like a military dirge played as the king leaves his castle played with traditional korean instruments (which Yoongi has incorporated into the beat). So he says "daechwita play it loud." I think the double entendre was intentional knowing them.
Also, the drawing on the scroll is of Bang PD (the boys have drawn him like that a few times over the years - JK came up with it I think and it's kind of their shorthand for him). In this, he's depicted with the chinese character for "dance" as his mouth. (Maybe telling Yoongi to dance because Yoongi says often he thought he was going to be a producer and then they asked him to dance.)??

He said that this song is more audiovisual focused. Lyrics are good, but it's not the focus of the song. He produced and coproduced all of the songs on his mixtape. Ofc, he wrote the lyrics too. He also did the keyboard , vocal and rap arrangement and synthesizer in songs. (Not all of it in every song obviously, but different things here and there)

Suga....oh wait excuse me...Agust D bias wrecked the fuck outta me with this song/mv and the album. I got some stuff to say, so hang with me. First off, shout out to the mv director Lumpens, which I think is a group of directors instead of just one person, who have directed most of BTS MVs such as Fake Love, both ON MVs, Black Swan (in the theater), DNA, BST, Spring Day, Run, and I Need U. For me this is their best work so far. Absolutely beautiful cinematography. And big props to Yoongi for doing the beautiful sword dance. I know he practiced his butt off for that and it came out. Also, one more detail I caught, there was a man working at a butcher stall that Suga walked past and made eye contact with. This man is the executioner that didn't kill black-haired Yoongi and betrayed King Yoongi. So, maybe the executioner was part of black-haired Yoongi's "gang" that we see throughout the MV, which explains why the executioner didn't kill Yoongi and also had a gun prepared for him to shoot the king.
Also, Caitlyn, you are spot on with the scar. In ancient Korea, a member of the royal family could not become a king or queen if they had scars on their body let alone their face. I view King Yoongi having a scar as he fought his way to where he is now, or that he doesn't give a fuck about that system. Also, based on tweets from some K-armies, King Yoongi might be a depiction of the Korean King Yeonsangun, who was known for killing people on a whim (specifically two purges of scholars and officials who disagreed with him/questioned his reign), like King Yoongi seems to be doing in the MV.
While we are talking about royalty, Yoongi, Taehyung, and Jin are descendants of powerful royal clans. Taehyung and Jin: Gwangsan Kim, and Yoongi: Yeoheung Min. Yoongi is also considered a grandson of the last empress of Korean, Empress Myeongseong. And Yoongi even confirmed multiple times that he is a blue blood/was part of the main or higher ranking part of the Min clan.
Funny enough, having royal blood is something we have in common. Through my dad's dad's family, we can trace our family name, "Saunders" at least to some Kings of Francia, which would eventually become France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, and Germany.

o3o whole army twitter got a history lesson yesterday by the k-army translators, about the robe that blonde August says about a his social class, the execution showing which dynasty it basically plays in.
