Not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, but there’s a slight difference in scars on their faces...peasant Suga has an older, much more healed scar on his face and king Suga’s scar is redder and newer...this eludes to peasant Suga being the rightful king and who we see as king Suga has stolen the throne from him and created the scar on his face to make others believe he’s the rightful king. Yet another level of storytelling within an mv that has no business being this damn good.

Fun fact: upon filming the MV Suga told the fans in their variety show(or live idk) that he was drunk when playing the tyrant king and staff legit said "is anyone smelling alcohol" but he stayed quiet and performed the tyrant king perfectly and much more aggresive and powerful, but also tyrant of course, he gon' be snapping and spittin' words reminding me of GD from BigBang when he legit spat words and irritating the award show MAMA ngl its cool.

If you didnt notice. The shot of him looking at the butcher was an actual significant cut. As butchers were normally the executors, he made a deal with him to kill the mad king. Its the same actor aswell!!
Edit:lol didnt think this would blow up. I dont have a lot of knowledge on Korean history so the ‘executors’ part was purely a guess and putting 2 together, as many skilled workers were used for that kind of stuff, such as barbers in London were also surgeons, but take it with a grain of salt

Daechwita is a masterpiece. Suga had his own idea on this mv. He insisted to shoot his song in a traditional place in Korea because he thinks it's fitting and his song has traditional instruments. It was also his idea to put scar on his face.

The details in this video are amazing, for example, the gun in the ending scene was actually a Colt Single Action Army. Obviously, the fandom is called the BTS Army so he also saying that he is fighting the haters with Army.

BTS are THE BEST storytellers in the entire industry imo. Everything they do, everything in the background has a purpose. You guys did an amazing job understanding, deciphering the story through the mv. Did you know that BTS has an ongoing story in some of their videos? If you watch certain ones in a certain order, you get an entire saga. It's called the Bangtan Universe or BU. There are 2 other groups within Big Hit, their little brother group, TXT (newly debuted) and a girl group they obtained called GFriend, they all have a storyline as well and it's believed that eventually, they will merge somewhere in their story because they all cross reference eachother through hints in their mvs. Like the Marvel Universe. Big Hit & BTS out here doing incredible things & we are all here for it! Yea! I really loved watching you guys do this reaction together. Maybe you can do this again! Have a great day.🌹

So basically how I see this is that Agust D is showing us he hasn't changed even though he as achieved so much. Peasant Agust D is who he used to be, living on the streets and poor. And King Agust D is who he is now.
At the very end, King Agust D tries to kill Peasant Agust D, which is like getting rid of oneself from the past. And when Peasant Agust D killed King Agust D, that was him saying "I'll never lose sight of who I once was. I'm still the same person I was then."

4:19 You see how Agust D made eye contact with the butcher on the market? That's the one at the end who was tasked by the king to kill him. They made a plan to kill the king by pretending that the butcher will kill Agust D as ordered by the king. That's why the butcher was also seen giving Agust D the gun at the end.

The butchers historically were also handed the gruesome task of execution cause they had the skill to chop flesh basically; because of this work they were considered untouchable\lowest class. In the mv rebel!Suga wears a pendant shaped like a mask - this mask is from traditional Korean theatre, it depicts guess who? Butchers! So Suga is definitely on the side of the people :)
In the beginning when he walked through the village you can see he is having a silent deal with the butcher. Same butcher is the one beheading the people who are not loyal to the king. So good suga had this deal with him from the beginning, that if he was to get caught, the butcher would save him by cutting the chains, bring him the gun, and ensure that the rebellion would suceed.

Someone has probably already mentioned this, but I love the contrast between the modern clothes and objects, such as the car and the gun that Peasant Suga has and the old-fashioned style and sword that the King uses. It really enforces the “out with the old and in with the new” themes of the rest of the video.
The gun could have been in that era tbh, the Joseon era went up to the 1800's which is well after guns were invented (and falls around the same time as the Old West) and some ARMY even researched the model of pistol used was a Colt ARMY from the 1800's.
Yoongi said in the behind the scenes vid that the Agust D from 2016 became a mad King so a different Agust D has come to kill him lol.

So a king isn’t supposed to have scars, so the fact that yoongi has a scar on his face and is a king. Hes very powerful, its also funny how hes actually apart of the royal family. Bowing is a form of respect, so it’s not submission but respecting the king.

I'm not sure if you knew this, but in Korean history, no King or Queen were to have any scars. So the message of him having a scar while wearing the king's robes with a king's jewelry was to say that he doesn't care about the system. He can be the king without caring what others think.

I don't know if this would be of interest but the coloured sheets on the building (the ones that look like bunting) are actually Buddhist prayer sheets (south east Asia being fairly Buddhist). However these prayer sheets are empty, they have no writing on them. Perhaps this could show that King Suga is trying to show off and prove that he is righteous when in fact he is actually shallow there is nothing of importance in his life, he only serves to make himself look better through superficial things. A tyrant is hidden behind riches and false prayer.

fun fact: suga is related to a Korean Empress who passed away. That were both from the same "min" clan witch was known for producing many Empresses although the Empress that suga is related to was known as the "disgrace" so Koreans don't talk about her era. So suga has royal blood in him. an actual KING!!

I lost it when in Suga's live he said they did this with very little budget.... and that a lot of his story idea went into the MV. He's crazy talented and I can't believe they pulled off my favorite kpop mv with low budget.

In his vlive Suga said that production team wanted to shoot it simple with low budget, but Suga said that he wanted to shoot it in a traditional place. And also he said that maybe it looks expensive but it’s not that expensive cuz the location was already built. Suga was rented it with his own money (for the mixtapes they pay themselves). Also many ideas for the mv was his own, he participated in creation of the masterpiece
And also the fact that he probably has all the budget in the world but didnt need/choose to have a high budget

As a films student I have never in my life related to a reaction video so much before. This is literally by far the best detailed explanation music video reaction where I could actually RELATE to how/what you guys were explaining - the edits, transitions, cuts and shots, all the way down to the explanations of aesthetics. 5:00 yoongi bumped into jin, then jin looked back then accitentally hit jungkook with the rod, then they started to fight
The one-take where Jin and Jk fight, Those crane shots (with the people bowing), The fire circle, The headbang and the sword dance are alllllllll things that SENT ME as a film student when this first came out lol.
I love how Director/Master Y is able to contrast both versions of Agust D in such subtle ways~ the one that stands out the most is how the king version is always in those wide shots very spacious and symmetrical whereas the present day Agust D is in cramped locations or medium close ups/medium shots with something else going on in the background.
BUT THEN..... Present day/peasant A.D. gets into the palace and the camera pans out for him like it did before for the king and now the king version of suga is getting that medium close up treatment.......
I may just be nerding out for nothing but hell--I thought it was cool haha.
I always love the workings of MV editing simply because it doesn't have that constraint with continuity--Like I know J.O. would explain this better than me but the fact that in a MV you can cut shots together that don't necessarily match the previous one and it still works is NOT something you can get away with in Film and TV----...for the most part.
BUT THOSE CRANE SHOTS.
Cutting those scenes together just brings out the best performance from Yoongi (Agust D) and excites the hell out of me... I know I am rambling but I mean--COME ON... lol.
Honestly I never actively processed that change in camera shoots until you mentioned it, that’s so cool!!

Love how, when the car enters the arena and it's spinning around the shots of the 'king Suga' have a panning that matches the spinning of the car and are also filmed from below, so it's like what 'peasant Suga' is actually seeing. The details on this MV are amazing!

Fun fact: if koreas royal family was still in rule Min Yoongi would be the next emperor (or he would be the present emperor) of today. So this mv is basically the truth of min Yoongi. When he says "I'm a boss, I'm a king" he isn't lying. Kim Seokjin and Kim Taehyung are also descendants and are more than likely distant cousins.
Basically BTS are really, truly kings 👑

I am watching different reactions from different professionals, and I love how the rappers noticed his different rap flows and you guys are noticing all the different tiny aspects to the music video.
a thing the sets you apart from other reactors is that you actually give your opinions. you go through the things that nonprofessional eyes would probably miss. it takes your opinion to add a whole different way of appreciating music videos like this and it is important because these filmmakers/video editors/directors or whatnot work just as hard as the music artist. and they are artists themselves too so their craft has to be given credit.

omg I know it’s been 3 years since this react but I need you to react to haegeum!! It’s the continuation of this storyline and it’s beautiful!! Honestly all of Suga’s MV and songs hold so much symbolism, like AMYGDALA! He tells his story so well, he participated in all of the storytelling and mv production
what i find so interesting is the clean cuts and steady camera the "king yoongi" has while the "peasant yoongi" gets a shaky camera that follows his moves and doesnt have as clean cuts
i was lowkey waiting for "ugh" entrance after that gun shot
I've watched this mv for million times but i've didn't saw or noticed a lot of things related to the story thanks for making this video i enjoyed watching it❤️

Actually, you were correct to use a T sound. That character at the beginning of 대취타 sounds like a T rather than a D when it's at the beginning of a word :D.
