Agreed! I'm a Splatoon fan and trying to get the four Idols and trio of Octoling Amiibo will cost just under £200 depending on where I buy them. If they came back in stock I'd only have to pay just over £60. It's utterly ridiculous. At this point it'd probably be cheaper to just pay for 3D printed versions from an independent seller. (I can't watch the video just yet at the time of posting this, so ignore me if this is something they bring up in the video. XD)
You literally have to get then day 1 and check multiple stores for the possibility kf getting them. Nowadays at least in my area. They never have new ones stocked or they're pre order only and it's stupid.
I just wanted to complete the Smash set, but I got into it late enough that it's basically impossible at this point unless I suddenly become rich. They really do need to rerelease at least some of them.
The problem with Amiibo for me is that Nintendo either uses them too much or too little. In Botw they only give you some cosmetics and in Smash you get an npc fighter. While in Samus Returns the Metroid Amiibo locks away the hardest difficulty and in Twilight Princess HD the Wolf Link Amiibo locks away an entire dungeon
@HighSeas epona? That's another amiibo that's not wolf link, and in BOTW Epona is just another horse with a different skin and stats. It's not as bad as locking a mode behind it. Why do you think Dread barely uses amiibo? They know fans got pissed about the scarce Metroid amiibo being scalped to hell
I have been of the opinion they should be DLC unlocks you can outright buy digitally or use the physical figurine. Kinda like what Starlink was doing, or at least attempting. Either that or they all have minimal function but across as many games as possible. Even if it's just unlocking cosmetics like textures, colors, costumes, etc.
I just hate it when any content is locked behind amiibo, it's like the world's worst value dlc, because amiibos become stupid expensive over time. Even the botw costumes locked away is annoying, some of them are so cool looking
@@RodaMoonknight they should either produce more amiibos for an affordable price (x to doubt) or allow people to get everything by playing like you used to in older games (legendary difficulty after beating ganin for example) Severely doubt Nintendo's gonna do either, the current model definitely works for them
Not as significant for me anymore, but I also always like to be able to look at a character from all sides in person which you obviously can’t do in games
The real unsolved amiibo dilemma is that they either: a) do something significant in the game, resulting in complaints of content being locked behind an amiibo paywall, or b) don't do anything significant, resulting in complaints that they're not worth the price since they're effectively useless.
@@alexmendez3681 If other people are collecting because they like having figures for a collection then that's one thing. Me personally I'm just trying to get functionality so paying $30 for 100 amiibo cards just makes more sense than buying all the figures.
@@alexmendez3681 There's extra content! You can summon specific villagers in animal crossing, You can unlock amiibo outfits in Mario kart, get figure players in smash bros and many other functions specific to each game
Amiibos to me are extremely well made action figures of fan favorite characters which also happen to have some pretty neat to cool functionality in game.
I have 2 shelves above my computer monitor covered in unboxed amiibos. Keeping stuff in box to hold value never made sense to me. "So i have to keep it boxed and nice.... for someone else?" I'm never gonna sell them, so the value is even worse, I'm keeping them nice for someone else once I've died. So i wont see that money because i'll be dead lol
Same with my games, I don't plan to sell them. The most I can hope for is that they end up with someone who enjoys games as much as I do. They'll be very valuable in the future, but I hope the monetary value is the last thing they care about. To who ever ends up with my collection in the future: enjoy the games, and if there are some titles you don't care about, hand them to someone who would appreciate them. Just don't screw someone else over them.
As a packaging designer, I'm happy to hear someone is thinking about my family, but I know the purpose of my work is to protect and present the actual product that people want. Don't feel bad about breaking or recycling the packaging. If you want to preserve your Amiibo or present your collection in a more uniform way, that's fine too.
I always unbox mine since there are so many more ways to display them out of box compared to in box and you can actually use them in game like they're intended to be, but I totally understand that people like to keep them unopened in order to preserve both the package art and the figures value of by not exposing them to any dust, damage, etc.
Honestly I don’t care about the box vs inbox that’s up to the individual owner to decide. What I find annoying is that they keep making new lines without reprinting old ones. For recent example the shulk amibo giving a monado skin in xc3. The thing goes for a hundred bucks in box they need to reprint them if they make new uses for them.
Me personally, I'm an out of box collector. I like being able to view them from every angle, it's like the trophy viewer in Smash but with real, official Smash trophies. I also love the artwork on the packaging too, so whenever I take an amiibo out of the box, I cut the backing off of the front plastic. That way I can take the amiibo out of the box and have the nice artwork at the same time. Also I love those custom painted amiibo in this video, I really need to get my hands on a few!
My Amiibo are purchased for use in game (opened) or if I want an experience for anniversary or display (unopened). Regardless of that I think we can all agree the limited run production model needs to change. More Amiibo=more enjoyment.
They’re not toys though in the traditional sense. They’re statues/figurines with non moveable parts. Kids can’t ‘play’ with these in the traditional sense.
When I first started collecting them and I had about 20, it looked SO much nicer to put pins in the walls and hang the boxes from the little shelf hook hole in the top of the packaging. I had them in perfect neat rows and columns and basically made a whole Amiibo wall
I’ve been collecting Smash Amiibo since 2015, I’ve kept them all in box and have even bought box protectors for them. I feel they look amazing in the packaging and the in game function never really appealed to me personally
Assuming you don't plan to resell and just wanted to keep them boxed for display purposes. There is a really old TH-cam video showing how to remove a carded figure with a knife while still keeping the box, you can put it back in for display and no one would notice if its on the shelf.
I cut the plastic shell off of the card back. This way I keep the artwork on the card back while also being able to open my amiibo. I also keep the plastic shell for storage so they do not get damaged while not being displayed.
yeah exactly the problem is the box itself! there is no way to put them back in if you wanted like the very collectable funko pops. they should fix the box design so the box can stay together and also add value to the product.
i really hope to see them on store shelves again, it’s a low possibility but one can dream! it’s impossible to buy old amiibos now without paying scalper prices and it makes me sad :/
I was expecting this to be a discussion about what continent Amiibo provide two games, and what’s the appropriate amount of contact to get like behind them, the box versus unboxed is also a very important discussion to have.
I open all of my amiibos and still enjoy collecting them I keep them on riser shelves that can hold most of them also I never understood why they put the little metal strip in the box as if someone would take their 3ds to gamestop scan a amiibo and then leave not to mention you have to register them and just how rare they were when they came out
Here's a little pro-tip from the action figure collecting community, you can actually take you're figure out of the packaging while (mostly) preserving the appearance of the blister card itself. Just take a sharp knife, like an x-acto knife, and cut along three of the sides of the base, making a little flap that you can open. Then just slide the tray out and you have your figure out while preserving most of the packaging!
I managed to buy all of them (minus some regional exclusive ones) since 2014. Glad they release way more sporadically, by the way. And that they decided NOT to start the Smash roster again when ultimate released. I take them all out of the box and have a limited space on my shelves to display and use them (my main use now is Happy Hone Paradise). I swap them every two-three months or so and store the rest safely in the cellar in bags, inside plastic boxes.
Honestly, I take mine out of the boxes since I've never really been one to care about collector's value with any type of figures to begin with (absolutely nothing wrong with being that type of collector btw) and I just really like how all the amiibo look clustered together on my shelves similar to the trophy collections in the Smash Bros. games. Though I will say that really it all comes down to personal preference and I can fully understand why people would prefer to keep theirs boxed up.
I'm definitely Team Zion here. Sometimes I rip them open because I want to actually use them, sometimes I value them most in the package, I vaguely often also buy one to open and one to keep in box
I jumped on the amiibo bandwagon relatively late. Samus (Smash version) aside, I had no interest in them, especially since they had no points of articulation. I did eventually buy Samus a few months after launch and kept it sealed. Bought Daisy (Super Mario version) at launch and kept it sealed and for a long time that's all I had and wanted. Then I impulse bought Kirby (Kirby version) at Five Below, kept it sealed. Then Ken (one of my go-to character in SF II) and Daisy (Smash) released, bought both day 1 and I just started amiibo hunting. Somewhere along the way I started taking them out of their respective packages to scan them for games like Mario Kart 8, that "free" amiibo game on Wii U & 3DS, and a few other games. I then told myself I'd collect all of the 3rd party Amiibo and keep them sealed for collector's/value going up purposes and while I did get a few, it felt weird having some amiibo sealed and some loose. I eventually sold somewhere between 3-5 sealed Amiibo (not for much) and kept, as well as opened, the ones of characters with whom I have some kind of history with and/or admiration for. I currently have 33 Amiibo and outside of maybe Wario (Smash version), Waluigi, Wolf Link (I honestly do try to limit getting LoZ Amiibo as I know those are a pretty penny, especially if I feel compelled to get all of them to say I have EVERY LoZ amiibo), and getting ALL of the Monster Amiibo (Stories 1 & 2 as well as Rise/Sunbreak) at once without breaking the bank (that ain't happening), I'm good with my collection. I occasionally scan them and clean them but otherwise they are on display on 4 shelves in my room.
I use a box cutter to cut 3 sides of the box, take the amiibo out without damaging the art, and put the box in storage so I can display them one day. In the meantime until I have room to display the boxes, I have a display of my out of box collection in my bedroom. I have an almost complete collection. I am missing a few, and I have none of the Monster Hunter or Shovel Knight amiibo (no interest in those series), but other than that my collection is about 95% complete. Hopefully since I saved the packages my collection will be worth a lot some day. I've spent literally thousands of dollars on them over the years
I was never into figures, but Amiibos changed that. I don't buy a lot, only have 5. But I really like the ones I have from some of my favorite series, and I wish more series got them. My favorite are my Monster Hunter Rise ones
I've got most of them on a shelf directly above my current-gen games, but I also imported the Splatoon amiibo dioramas from Japan. The Squid Sisters stage has a place you can slot in a phone or a 3DS (you can also squeeze a joyconless Switch in there), with the idea being that you can put their concert videos on in the background.
I haven't seen one in a store in years. Literally, where do you buy them? They make new ones but are literally nowhere. With that said, I bought the ones I wanted back when you could get them. Leave them in the box and then use NFC cards to make copies for use. Then you can fit 50 amiibos in your switch case.
Managed to get the Malzeno amiibo from someone parting out perhaps foolishly the collectors edition of Sunbreak. No idea when they will release stateside as separate items though
I found a simple solution. I don't have a ton of money to spend on Amiibos, so I bought like 3 of them, Links Awakening Link Amiibo, and the Samus and EMMI two-pack. I took them out of the packaging and threw that away (because I don't need the clutter). And I use/will use them for whichever games they'll work with. I got those because they're the only ones from their games and that keeps it simple. For every other character I want for other games, I used my phone to copy Amiibo data from people who didn't mind sharing them, and put them on the blank white NFC cards that I bought online, wrote the name of the Amiibo and what game it's from on the card, sleeved them, and put them in a deck box for later use. Eazy, peezee.
You can open amibo without ruining the packaging. Use a razor to cut each the sides and bottom edge of the plastic. The top edge is left intact and functions as a henge. You can open the box. Enjoy the figure then put it back into the box. You can then gain the box using a light weight adhesive hook.
I'm very much split down the middle on this one. On one hand, I've kept every single amiibo I've gotten over the years in its box. But my original plan was to only collect the Smash Bros. amiibo and then proceed to unbox and properly display them on a custom made shelf after I had obtained them all. There was this really beautiful shelf I saw on etsy that had these little indents in them for the amiibo bases to be securely fastened into. And the backs of the shelves were actually designed to look exactly like the amiibo boxes! So it'd essentially be like having them boxed while also getting to properly use them. I think they also had Smash 4 and Smash Ultimate variants, if you prefer one art style over the other! However.... there is ONE amiibo from the Smash line that I have yet to obtain.... and until I do, it will prevent me from ever opening any of these and properly displaying them like I've been wanting to for years... and that amiibo.... is Corrin Player 2.... The ONE AND ONLY plus side of the 3DS and Wii U eShops shutting down is the small sliver of hope I have that Nintendo will remake/re-release Fire Emblem Fates for the Switch and then in turn re-release the two Corrin amiibo along with it. I wasn't a fan of that game in the slightest, but if it'll bring back the golden goose of Smash Bros. amiibo, then I'm all for it! But then again, they didn't do a re-release of the Yarn Poochy amiibo when Yoshi's Crafted World came out, which is ALSO absurdly expensive and was only available in the US via a bundle with the 3DS version of Woolly World, so maybe they'll remake Fates and just not re-release the amiibo, because they love to torture me. Just me. Specifically me. Because the world is cruel. DX In the time I've spent trying to obtain Corrin Player 2, I started to collect several other amiibo to satiate my never ending hunger for silly collectible figures. And.... I wound up more or less having a complete amiibo collection. I'm still missing a few from the Super Mario line and I don't have any of the Breath of the Wild ones. Will probably get those if/when they get a reprint when BOTW 2 comes out. But ya. My biggest priority is Corrin Player 2... and Poochy... and Mega Yarn Yoshi... and Gold MegaMa- oh, who am I kidding? I'm getting all of them!
Ah yes, the P2 alts of the Smash line. I managed to find one at a local shop and it's in my own collection... For 200$. Most I've ever spent on a single amiibo. I'm also missing the Golden Megaman and Mega Yarn Yoshi as key rare pieces. Also a few various from most sets, like Summer Isabelle from the AC line, Inkling Boy Green from the S2 line, and Alm from the FE set. I haven't hunted online for anything, because that local shop I mentioned gets a lot of amiibo coming through. As far as the Smash line goes I'm still missing Terry and Cloud P2.
While I’m guilty of keeping my Amiibo in the box, I completely agree with Alex on opening things you have unopened. I mean you bought it to use it, right? My problem is that as long as it stays sealed, it stays clean and “untarnished”, plus I am not a fan of choices that you can’t go back on. Once you have pulled that shrink wrap off, you ain’t ever getting it back on again. Sure you can buy a machine that shrink wraps things, but if the game came in one of those shrink wraps that says “Nintendo” or “PlayStation” across, again, you ain’t ever getting it back on to preserve and look pretty, and as soon as it goes off, it starts to deteriorate.
Okay, so here's the best of both worlds: You keep the Amiibo in the box, BUT you gets some RFID chips and pirate the Amiibo files, then flash the RFID chips with the Amiibo data and tape them to the bottom of the box. In all seriousness, I always opened the boxes when I was still getting them since I used them for Smash Bros. and that one weird emulator thing on the Wii U that let you play demos of Virtual Console games even though Amiibos cost more than NES and SNES games. I used to keep all my Amiibos on the floor. These days, I don't buy them anymore because I never see them anywhere and barely ever play Nintendo consoles. The last time I even used them was to get some meat in Breath of the Wild. Still, I'll have fond memories of Bowser unlocking the ability to play Kirby Super Star for three minutes.
I think the Kirby amiibo was perfectly executed for Kirby: Planet Robobot. It gave you the UFO ability, which was an amazing, somewhat broken, ability, but at the same time you weren't ever truly overpowered. Your experience wasn't drastically changed from using the amiibo, but it still had a cool function. Upon that, fans weren't scalper-locked from content- You could get the UFO ability if you 100%ed the game, so nobody is ever truly at a loss if it's 100 years in the future and all Kirby amiibos have disintegrated.
I have all of the Animal Crossing Amiibo figures (Smash included) on display in my bedroom on a bookshelf. None are opened and they never will be! I finally collected all of the Fire Emblem Amiibo figures recently and am finding a spot for them. This argument applies to Funko Pops as well, aside from functionality. I have all of the currently released Avatar: the Last Airbender, Legend of Korra, RWBY, and Dark Crystal/AOR Funko Pops on display in a glass display shelf. None of them are opened either. I understand both sides, but I’m a collector of things! My mom always asks me why I buy things that will have no monetary value to me until I die. I always tell her that it’s not about money; it’s about the art someone created for me to view!
Nintendo is on the fence too, in Badge Arcade you can get Amiibo figures inside and outside of packaging. And that’s a digital version of a physical product. So do whatever you feel like, it’s your stuff.
I don't have many amiibo, only five. All but one of them I got used, so therefore they didn't have any boxes _to_ open. The one amiibo I did get new, I opened in a non-destructive manner using a boxcutter.
My lifehack is to open the box, cut off the ugly edges that you don't need, and keep the see-through plastic to protect and display amiibo when I'm not using them. The back part slides in and out just fine, the only inconvenience is taking the amiibo itself in and out of its plastic. This can be the best or the worst of both worlds, depending on your personal view.
I don't like my figures to stay in the box... I want to use em and decorate my shelves and admire em from every side I chose to... same with every figure I purchase such as Pop vinyls, Nendoroids, Figmas, etc. there are also fantastic amiibo stands that can be placed in different heights which look amazing once you fill it out.
I open my amiibo as well, doing it carefully to preserve as much of the cardboard packaging as possible. A good portion of games still have need for amiibo scanning even if minor in effect/ unlock which makes it necessary to open them. I have gotten doubles myself and those are the only ones I keep in the box such as Mewtwo, Greninja, Ness and Lucas. As for storing them, I only open amiibo when I have a nice dust-proof display case for them; however, its very difficult to find reasonably priced ones that can stack like the Daiso cases I used to get, but are now discontinued.
I wish I kept at least some of my amiibo in the box. I got so many at the height of the amiibo craze and now that I've grown up a bit and am more cognizant about making my spaces neat and aesthetically appealing, all the little figures are so hard to display without it just looking like a giant unorganized clutter. Sure the boxes would take up more space, but it would make a nicer display than just having a giant group of twenty of them randomly sitting together on a shelf.
My solution for dealing with opening Amiibo or not is to buy as many as I can pre-owned, they're usually unboxed and by extension cheaper. Then if I buy one brand new, for example through a pre-order, then I can keep that one in the box and not feel bad about it. This is just in terms of collecting them though, if I'm buying them specifically to use in a game then I'll likely unbox them.
I don't think the boxes are anything special, like it's usually just your run of the mill stock art. It'd be different if they had unique art on them but like, I can see that art in-game or on the box art. Besides, I think they look better without the box, you can position them the way you want and fit more on one shelf.
For me I like to take the Amiibo out, but then cut the plastic display part from the rest of the packaging and use that to keep them in, so they look nice when displayed and I can still use them
i would never keep them in the box. the shift in popular opinion in video game hobby spaces from collecting for personal satisfaction to collecting as investment/display pieces is really depressing. i like to surround myself with things that i like, represent me and bring me joy which means i buy amiibo when i like the characters or if i wanna use them in one of my games and use them to decorate my space otherwise because i like them.
See I loved taking them out of the box and I ended up saving the boxes to possibly later put them back in, but this lead me to having no space in my room to keep all the boxes and I sadly made the choice to throw them out. However I recently have decided to keep them in the boxes for a few reasons. Mostly because of the box art, but also because of selling value possibly later. I think the thing I semi-regret is customizing them. While I have one really good paint job I did on one, the other is eh and the one I started on...it looks bad. I think for a collecting purpose its hard. I like them both out and in the boxes, but I think its better kept in box, specially in some. Like my Ridley amiibo, oh hell yeah it looks so good in box. < 3
Obviously, they are worth more in the package not to mention they look better. For the ones I open, I bought another to keep sealed! I have the boxes all lined up in a row above my closet door using pushpins in the hangtag part, they look nice!
The only amiibo I tried keeping in a box is a Monster Hunter Stories "Qurupeco" Amiibo. I thought of keeping it in the box because it's a Japanese Only Amiibo, but the size of the box took up a lot of space and I thought "I'm not gonna resell these for profit", and I really just love collecting them. I just grabbed my knife, cut out the plastic box, keep the art and figure and display it.
I have all the splatoon series amiibo and I will say, I like the look of them in the boxes but I also like the functionality of them. I cut the bottom corners of the plastic from the front to the back, and the very bottom back of the plastic box (there’s a perforated edge there that I cut along.) I use an exacto knife to do this. That way there is a flap of plastic at the bottom and can pull the whole inner plastic unit out with the amiibo and put them back in. I have them all displayed nicely on a wall under some artwork.
majority of them are in their original boxes in a box in my closet to be sold at a higher price sometime in the near future. only like 4 are outside of the box because i really like those characters.
I'm impartial like Zion is. I open some and I keep some others sealed. The difference is that I have a shelf space solely for keeping the opened boxes up for display. It'd be a waste to get rid of them cause they look good too 😅
if I could put all my amiibo back in their boxes exactly as they were when they were new then I would. For me it really just comes down to the agony of keeping them clean, and the box is just a lot easier to clean.
For point of articulation the monster hunter stories one you can switch the riders of each monster and for the Samus returns amiibo the metroid is squishy.
i got into amiibo a little late but i have managed to get my hands on all of the Zelda amiibo's, almost all the Mario, and all but two smash bros Amiibos!!!
I love amiibos, but it was great for the Wii U, but the Switch where you can take them on the go the amiibo can get some space in your back, I feel like either the normal amiibo coming with a amiibo card so you can take it on the go, or sell official amiibo card for all amiibos, not just a few
So, my wife found this old key house thing for free on Facebook Market, and we got it, painted it, and use it to house/display my opened amiibo. My 3 and 1 year old love it! They've been learning all the characters' names and often ask for me to hold them up so they can handle one for a while :)
Ehm, all splatoon amiibo have been rereleased, bought the 2 packs of callie&marie and off the hook set and much more for like 28 euro each in store a week or two ago, my local store now have like 150 of each in stock. So they are no longer worth anything.
It all depends on the box the collectible comes in. If I can keep the packaging intact when opening and closing it, then I don't mind taking the item out and display them. If it's those packages that rip the artwork as I try to open, like those individual hot wheel packages then I'm keeping them in their box and more than Iikley holding them to sell years later. (I don't collect hot wheels, just an example, I'm ripping those suckers out lol)
I have a shelf that looks like a fire escape. I rotate the selection on the shelf every so often and keep the rest in a plastic tub. I have like 150+, so putting them all on shelves is a skosh difficult. And yeah, you should definitely open every single one.
They're collectibles with very little purpose other than being collectibles. Keeping them in the box is more the correct way of collecting them than opening them. Especially since Nintendo went through all the effort of making perfectly consistent display boxes with character art on the card backer. I get the fact that you can't use them for content unlocks if they're in the box, and the aesthetic of just having figurines on your shelf. They do look a lot like Smash Bros. trophies after all. Very cool. However, I know that there's plenty of figurine lines that retain value despite not being in packaging, so I guess it's whatever you want.
When I first started collecting amiibos I originally wanted to keep them in their boxes but when they arrived the boxes were all ruined and just looked ugly so I just took the amiibos out of their boxes.
unpopular opinion: nintendo should just make amiibo cards as well as figure varients, so ppl who dont care ab the figure but want the perks can still use them without having to pay an absurd amount for an easily scalpable figure unless they REALLY want to collect it for the sake of having it
I always took mine out of the boxes since I used them in games, but if you buy them as figurines, then I don’t see why leaving them in box is a bad thing.
The real unsolved dilemma:Not being able to find the good amiibo (Most of the time you can only find sonic, fire emblem characters, or the animal crossing ones for amiibo festival.) And the fact that nintendo is so slow releasing the smash dlc characters (Almost 2 years for the Block Boy and Girl's amiibo)
Amiibos now for me have stopped becoming about the price but more that it’s impossible to find the ones you want without paying scalping prices
XD)
So true! I became interested in gaming only recently, so there's so many I'd love to get, but they can be so expensive thanks to scalpers...
for the love of God, they need to rerun so many of them lmao
You literally have to get then day 1 and check multiple stores for the possibility kf getting them. Nowadays at least in my area. They never have new ones stocked or they're pre order only and it's stupid.
I just wanted to complete the Smash set, but I got into it late enough that it's basically impossible at this point unless I suddenly become rich. They really do need to rerelease at least some of them.
I think the solution Nintendo would offer to this problem would be to buy 2 of every amiibo
It is unfortunately what I opted to do for the few amiibo I managed to get my hands on.
They’ve started making some so you can scan it from the box

NOAH'S AMIIBO
@dissy It is a cool idea but I think they should have done more with it. It felt a little half baked
I just hate it when any content is locked behind amiibo, it's like the world's worst value dlc, because amiibos become stupid expensive over time. Even the botw costumes locked away is annoying, some of them are so cool looking
@@RodaMoonknight they should either produce more amiibos for an affordable price (x to doubt) or allow people to get everything by playing like you used to in older games (legendary difficulty after beating ganin for example)
Severely doubt Nintendo's gonna do either, the current model definitely works for them
Amiibo! I can’t help but take mine out of their boxes. They’re just quality figures I love to look at and I just think they’re neat!
Not as significant for me anymore, but I also always like to be able to look at a character from all sides in person which you obviously can’t do in games
Same here
agreed
As a 13 year old kid when they came out I took all them out the box 😂
A good example of them doing it right is splatoon 1
The real unsolved amiibo dilemma is that they either:
a) do something significant in the game, resulting in complaints of content being locked behind an amiibo paywall, or
b) don't do anything significant, resulting in complaints that they're not worth the price since they're effectively useless.
Well the solution when a) happens is to buy cheap nfc chips
@@linukahewagama4883 But that's ghetto. I don't think people would do that. 😊
@@alexmendez3681 If other people are collecting because they like having figures for a collection then that's one thing. Me personally I'm just trying to get functionality so paying $30 for 100 amiibo cards just makes more sense than buying all the figures.
@@linukahewagama4883 What functionality must you have? Every Nintendo game can be beaten without amiibos.
@@alexmendez3681 There's extra content! You can summon specific villagers in animal crossing, You can unlock amiibo outfits in Mario kart, get figure players in smash bros and many other functions specific to each game
I bought and opened every smash amiibo, because they're like the throphies in the older games. So having them sealed would feel wrong.
Regardless of your opinion. I’m sure we all welcome more reprints of old amiibo that has skyrocketed in prices.
Amiibos to me are extremely well made action figures of fan favorite characters which also happen to have some pretty neat to cool functionality in game.
I would argue that they’re not action figures: there’s no articulation. They’re mini statues and that’s fine, they’re still cool.
They need to make a way to get the amibbo out of the packaging but be able to put it back in
@@ghostin3274👆🏼 *This person is too smart for us…*
@@ghostin3274 maybe using clamshell packaging, however you can clamp it back together?
I always unbox mine since there are so many more ways to display them out of box compared to in box and you can actually use them in game like they're intended to be, but I totally understand that people like to keep them unopened in order to preserve both the package art and the figures value of by not exposing them to any dust, damage, etc.
Ok... Y'all need to do debates more often. I love the friendly passionate disagreeing and would love to see more. :)
Agreeably disagreeing should be something we all take into everyday life, I sure as hell wish policitians would start to use this method
Lots of people collect toys and keep them in the box. It's an aldult collector thing. I don't think Alex has the collector bug at a guess
It’s ridiculous that amiibo like Shulk aren’t reprinted when they can be used in new games.
Omg I did the exact same thing!!
Oh phew they were custom painted. I was having a heart attack thinking that there were smash aly amiibos this entire time that I didn't know about.
My Amiibo are purchased for use in game (opened) or if I want an experience for anniversary or display (unopened). Regardless of that I think we can all agree the limited run production model needs to change. More Amiibo=more enjoyment.
Amiibo are toys, they are meant to be played with. I'm totally with Alex on this one.
They’re not toys though in the traditional sense. They’re statues/figurines with non moveable parts. Kids can’t ‘play’ with these in the traditional sense.

"all sorts of different ways to have fun with them"
O_o
the jar...
Only a bit into the video and I'm dying laughing in the best way. This is lovely!
What would laughing in the worst way be? 🤔
@@VinnytotheK laughing at people when they do something embarrassing for example
@@Lorenzovd Hmm, true!
So... this was 20 minutes of "store them however you want"?
When is the Minecraft Steve and Alex Amiibo even releasing, Nintendo said later in 2022 so I feel like the date is going to be September or December
Alex was so ready with the firework comparison
I'm a day 1 Switch user and only have 3 amiibos
You guys are awesome. I had a really good time watching and laughing at the banter. “Link in the description” and reaction was the best.
Australia hasn't even got our yet. I've preordered months ago but they're delayed until September 😭
DX
In the time I've spent trying to obtain Corrin Player 2, I started to collect several other amiibo to satiate my never ending hunger for silly collectible figures.
Also they are worth more in the box and if your a collector it’s always way more fun collecting when your collection is worth money

Is that Black Yoshi Amiibo figure a custom one, or do Black Yoshi Amiibo figures *_actually, officially_* exist there???
If I could go back in time, I would buy them all and kept them in boxes. But I am stuck with 10-15 of them opened
The only reason to keep it in the box is to keep the value. They look infinitely better out of the box
The quality of the figure is wasted on not opening them. There is so much detail in these little guys. Metroid, yarn Yoshi, guardian.
Nintendo is on the fence too, in Badge Arcade you can get Amiibo figures inside and outside of packaging. And that’s a digital version of a physical product. So do whatever you feel like, it’s your stuff.
I took mine out when they first released because they look way better on display
Taking Amiibo out of the box is sacrilegious
Unless it’s like, SUPER rare, I normally unbox my Amiibo and put them on my shelf, but keep the box in a closet.
Speaking of amiibo, I'm still waiting for the steve ones.
For me I like to take the Amiibo out, but then cut the plastic display part from the rest of the packaging and use that to keep them in, so they look nice when displayed and I can still use them
I just want my Pyra and Mythra amiibo :(
Shulk is lonely...
i would never keep them in the box. the shift in popular opinion in video game hobby spaces from collecting for personal satisfaction to collecting as investment/display pieces is really depressing. i like to surround myself with things that i like, represent me and bring me joy which means i buy amiibo when i like the characters or if i wanna use them in one of my games and use them to decorate my space otherwise because i like them.
The Min Min amiibo is pretty tasty, be sure to cook until al dente and serve it with a light sauce for flavor
The correct answer is to keep them in box and buy blank NFC cards to make bootleg amiibos
The only reason to keep them boxed is if you plan on selling it in the future for a hiked up price.
The amiibo website doesn’t even update anymore
The box art is there for one reason, to attract your eye to the box so you buy them.
For point of articulation the monster hunter stories one you can switch the riders of each monster and for the Samus returns amiibo the metroid is squishy.
I wish I was into Metroid when that squishy guy was released, it’s so cool.
@@LittleLexi24 hes kinda cute only because he's squishy. I never thought I'd call a parasite cute.
Chef's kiss for links in the descrption below!
i got into amiibo a little late but i have managed to get my hands on all of the Zelda amiibo's, almost all the Mario, and all but two smash bros Amiibos!!!
I collect a lot of Amiibo, and there’s just too many these days to keep in the box.
That’s like saying: yes I keep my new iPhone sealed because the artwork is so beautiful
If it's those packages that rip the artwork as I try to open, like those individual hot wheel packages then I'm keeping them in their box and more than
Iikley holding them to sell years later.
I have rare ones in packagings.
most of them are out and others are just customised amiibo card form.
“Isn’t Link down in the description” 😹
unpopular opinion: nintendo should just make amiibo cards as well as figure varients, so ppl who dont care ab the figure but want the perks can still use them without having to pay an absurd amount for an easily scalpable figure unless they REALLY want to collect it for the sake of having it
I always took mine out of the boxes since I used them in games, but if you buy them as figurines, then I don’t see why leaving them in box is a bad thing.
The people with a boxed Smash Wario amiibo will never get to see the Hurry Up logo on his jacket. Poor fellas.
18:36 i know it’s not an Amiibo but who is that in the back left with their arms up? Looks familiar
I only keep the really rare amiibo in boxes. I just don't have room for all those boxes. I did buy a few of those dioramas to display them.
