Several factors go into the converter question and those who look at your truck to answer them must consider. 1. Engine size. A 6.2 is a strong engine and will tolerate a lot more cam than a 4.8/5.3. 2. Transmission. That 6l80 helps a ton as the gear spacing is much better than a 4l60. 3. Gear ratio. 4.10 when combine with the above pulls the combo together and just doesn't have to have a converter. 4. Trucknorris is just that a truck cam. It was designed to make torque and that is what it does. I tuned a 2000 4.8 RCSB with 4.10 gear, long tubes, and a converter. Trucknorris made such a difference in the low end power over a stage 1 summit high lift truck cam. I also tuned a sloppy stage 2 in a otherwise stock 2001 z71 crew cab with 33 inch tires. It would not get out of its own way on take off. It is all in the combo as a whole and not just "needs a converter" It seems that you put thought into your truck and used parts that work together and now you have a good running, fun, easy driving truck.
You are correct sir, I've built a bunch of trucks, from mild -wild, I done this one just soley put of boredom, but I know alot of these guys that do it for a living want to sell people the proper package, with all the supporting mods, and I get that, but this does show that there are budgeting options for people that are on a budget, or just don't wanna get super in depth..... I like to help people out and see people achieve their goals as cheap as possible, but still done properly.i Aldo clearly try to point out the displacement difference in every video I do, and tuning, people doesn't realize that tuning that makes the most power on a dyno isn't always gonna be the best street able tuning. There's alot more that needs to be achieved from Joe going to the track vs Jim daily driving. I cant ever stress enough how big or a part good tuning plays.
As you stated, I had a 2003 ecsb 2wd 4.8, I did sloppy stage 2, 2800 stall, long tubes, 430 gears, and 125 shot. It was a super fun lil truck, and would prolly give this 6.2 a good run on 1/4 mile.
You the man. Perfect explanation of what I’m trying to do w/ my 2011 SWB Denali. It’s a heavy pig, I’m not trying to turn it into a race truck… but it needs a DOD delete and while I’m there might as well get some chop and have a little fun in the daily w/o needing to go converter, built trans, and on and on.. you know the deal!
What a lot of folks don't understand is that the same JMBX converter is going to stall different behind a 6.2 versus a 5.3 versus a 4.8 or the 4.8 may stall more if that engine is making more power than the 6.2.
But hook the that to a 32 ft camper and pull it, and see how long the tranny and convertor holds up. I do agree it's alot more fun, and makes a big difference in performance, but it doesn't fit everyone's needs. I've done em both ways, and if your making a daily toy, absolutely a big cam and convertor is badass, but a daily to pull, haul, and make some decent power, this setup does work.
@@Slik-rik87 I agree 100%. My truck is a regular cab that’s got a 4/6 drop on it. I can haul the occasional engine block in the bed, but otherwise it’s just a toy. It’s all about building it to do what you need, or want.
Hey man i have 3.42s gears…do you think i should skip 3.73s and go straight to 4.10s? How good are 4.10s on highway ? I have a 5.3 and truck norris cam
@lpx5g266 gears are always the best bang for the buck. I would definitely go to 410s. If they made a 430 for my rear dif that's what would be in mine. My blue 2wd gas 430s, it's a but much gear for it, but I made it for around town.
Alright i do have a 6l80e, and stock 32 tires but might upgrade to 33s later. Cool man just didnt know if 4.10s would be overkill or if 3.73 wouldnt make much of a difference
id honestly recommend people do a set of gears or even a trans swap with more gears instead of a converter. I've driven high stall 4 speeds and used to own a ram with the 8 speed and even with less power it would dust any built 4 speed and even most 6 speed trucks just because of that transmission alone. Most people severely underestimate how important gears and gearing is AND the 8 speed with a low stall converter was alot more fun
@@Slik-rik87 very true, alot of people swap over too 4l80's though and that takes quite a bit more work than people make it out too be and with the extremely long gearing they have they are honestly quite miserable to drive unless you have a 408 stroker or something with lots and lots of low end torque and 4.10's at the minimum in a truck application anyways.

What do you have your idle set at I’m looking to put the truck noris cam in my 2011 Chevy Silverado 6.2 the tunner said since I have a 6l80e the converts are a little more tight then most and that they want to idle around 900 he said he can get it pretty dialed and idle around 950 he said it shouldn’t want to push through the converter since it’s also a 6.2 with more displacement that it should eat up majority of it or that I could get a btr stage 2 truck cam so I don’t have to worry at all about it pushing though the torque converter but I’ll lose the some of the sound at idle compared to truck noris cam
I have a 2011 5.3 and just installed the truck Norris nsr cam. And I will say it works good with the stock converter but still feels like it loads up a little bit. My idle in gear is 700rpms. Any advice?
@Don W. Sligo as I stated your gonna get a lil load on a stock converter, with 342s it was a lil more, once I changed to 410s it was a difference, but you'll also feel a lil load on the brakes , my idle was set around 8-850, I changed mine a couple times til I was happy with it

@Don W. Sligo your 100% correct, I tune with efilive, it's a lil more of a pain, but it has a few tuning tables hp doesn't, but no where as user friendly either .
If it was a 5.3 or 4.8 yes a converter would help... that's probably what they thought. The 6.2 has enough down low.
