Not much to fix when you make a perfect game, wish poe took notes on how to make a game approachable and simple yet complex and with depth without making it overly stupid and absurd.
Series of small tests need to try Can another player see this state Can another player deal damage to them Can another player fear/kB/leap a spell or item with chance on hit with an issue a commanded with moment Will another player killing them Can you the player do any of the above Are either gates opened before or after they die What happens after you kill them Does a portal reset the area What happens when you kill the quest whenever another player needs the quest and they are not in same act/zone/area as the other player What happens when 2 more more players need or don't need the quest Can you test with the portal bug/glitch leaving and returning telekinesis the book and portal at the same time
Reproduced it successfully on BattleNet. Alter keeps stuck in red steam animation and ancients are spawned stuck. Once killed, they disappear and nothing else changes. No XP and no quest. Opening a portal afterwards, will again reset the scene. More research needed how to make progress.
To piggyback on this the timing of the state has to be checked, i.e. have a friend cast TP and you klick altar. Also another person posted in comments that you can stuck a character in a statue by standing on it before resetting, which sounds like a character in another state or out of bounds. This can mean duping.
Are they staying frozen regardless of the source of damage you do? e.g. was every spell tried or for example attacking with pushback abilities to get them out of this state into an active state to trigger the quest?
I would start by finding a way to replicate this bug without the use of a portal. Because I'm pretty sure the portal disables the quest progression. But if there is a way to get the transition/animation race condition to occur without the use of a portal that would open up a major glitch I guess. Maybe a portal from a staff, maybe with weapon swap or something like this could work? What other ways are there which might force the ancients back into being statues?
Pop another port on the same frame the last ancient dies? Have a character start the quest first "normally", and then come in and do your trick? Some things to try.
In the vid he says that the quest doesn't complete and the follow up doesn't happen either, so I'm guessing the lock to the Worldstone stays locked, and you have to reset at that point an come back and kill them legitimately.

I wonder if you could kill 2 ancients and have the merc take down the last one. While spamming the worldstone gates. The specific second that the last ancient falls would be a vulnerable moment for the games codes and i wonder if there are ways to exploit this
what if you damage them close to death and reset them for the normal fight? you hovered them after resetting and the health stayed from the first glitched state.
I saw another runner use a portal glitch where you place a bunch of em and create a invisible barrier thats blocks the ancients whe you finnaly spawn em. What if you put the portals on the spot they spawn on?
You say you can't get the quest or experience. What if you wear them down while they're frozen, then activate the stone and finish them off while their health is reduce?
Have you tried moving an ancient by using telekinesis or a knockback weapon/howltusk? Maybe you're not getting the quest because they're dying at their spawn point. Worth a try. Also when you kill them, does the door open despite the quest not working?
Ancients are immune to Knockback, also any Act Bosses, Ubers, Griswold, Izual, Nihlathak, Coldworm the Burrower, Necromancer Golems, Druid Vines, and Druid Spirits.
So I’m guessing that going to town after they’re dead and coming back does not open the gate. What about quitting the game after they are dead and coming back in? Will that just put us back at square one and they’re ready to kill you?
@@Ogokaonah, still play with buddies from time to time. We first played in 2002 and despite being 15,000 kms apart, we play. And we are from Africa, so I would imagine far more US/EU/Asia players. D2 is well loved in my country.
Since you and your merc aren't taking any damage, there might be a roll for that to happen to earn kill credit? Perhaps getting poisoned prior and taking damage during the glitched states might work? 🤔
so that's why they don't drop anything. Maybe it's known from the beginning. The give exp though. Can you abuse it to gain fast exp by only killing 2/3 of them?
Try cursing them or casting a debuff like Battle Cry on them? That will further add another weird state to them. Maybe even active stun swirl from like smite or mind blast

@@elro1986You can also do a grush too if you want them left, but loosing out on WSK/baalruns can't be worth it either way. I don't remember if you clear hell on classic and then convert and if it counts as hell being cleared for making TZ games. Since just saving normal/nightmare ancients isn't that good exp but if you do save them it's quick and easy exp @98.
The experience is limited, Quick rushes used to include a Ancients skip and if you went back past lvl 80 you would not receive a full level just a portion of exp
My tests: 1.If you die to Light/Cold/Fire Enhant while the ancients are bugged, and come back to summit: Ancients still there in same state when you died, Altar doesnt glow red on d2r graphics! 2.Throwing meteors on all ancients spots, then doing the bug - they die while the text is still playing, sadly doesnt change anything. Game treats them as stone statues dead or alive :(
What are the chances...I had this happen twice last ladder and assumed it was a new bug in D2R...i dont record my games anyways so there was no way of going back to replicate it. Good news is that i 100% remember getting quest completion, but it was online and other people were in the game so I'm not sure it'll work in SP

@@fakeappellation7343the ancients quest gives a fixed amount of XP for each difficulty. For example if your level 80 or level 98 you get the same amount of XP it just appears to be less because of how much XP you need to fill your bar
@@fakeappellation7343Yes, but if I'm not mistaken, based on the way experience from most sources falls off at higher levels, the xp doesnt give a full level at 98, but does give a substantial bonus without the penalties that being level 98 normally gives to xp

What if you use Talic Lightning enhanced to kill yourself, then enter your portal in Ancient's Way and reenter Arreat Summit, maybe by reentering it will register them as alive and valid for the quest to be completed.
Couldn't you just re-activate them properly once they are low HP? Didn't look like they reset to me when you demonstrated again. So long as you're not getting one-tapped it'd be basically the same, just have like 2 seconds of actual fight once ur done static-ing the static bosses.
To make it work, you need an unkillable lvl 100 monster like a bunny from frozen tundra, herd it/chase it down the ancients way, then to the platau stairs, then, after chasing it up the stairs you can glitch the ancients like that and the presence of a lvl 100 mob means you will get the quest reward.
It's not a different state when you open it via belt lol, still the same thing, also isn't this quite old? one of the useless glitches cos you can't advance.

Idk where you got that number, but there's only been about 10 patches since LOD if you don't count the "letters". And letters add like 5-10 more
I think there have been a total of 12 patches man, maybe 13. Something like that. Its less than 100, its less than 20.

Someone has to actually report the bug for it to get fixed and then they gotta prioritize it. This would be a super low priority bug in my mind.

Nah none of that will work. The acients have spawned, but their AI has not been initiated. So there is no AI to give you the quest after they died

I did it several times and I didnt get the quest done. After I kill all three nothing happens, and both doors still closed.

You can actually save the quest if you start you character in classic, and once in hell turn to expansion

there still hurt after resummoning so what if you than resummon them so they can move but there already hurt so making it safe in hc?
The HP seem to resset everytime.
Try some sort of knockback so the game has registered they've moved therefore the quest must be active?
Didn't look like their HP returned to max when you re-glitched. Maybe lower the HP then do it unglitched?

For example, have an assasin try it and just use her Traps since they are technicaly Minions

If you can skip the Hell Ancients quest like in NM and save it, 98s could use this to skip a lot of leveling on the journey to 99. Would be huge

You open a tp (using belt slots) and immediately click the altar. Might need to try a few times.

another glitch, if someone is standing one of the pedestals the ancients return to after killing them that player can get stuck to the pedestal
