This is amazing! If I was told in 1995 that I could watch allen huston talk directly at me and teach me how to shoot the basketball I'd piss my pants. Great content! MAny kids that grew up years ago just played ball without coaching, making all the possible mistakes and getting unnecesarily injured. Nowadays you can do it right, all you need is an internet connection and you are on your way to try and make your dreams come true. We live in a great world and should appreciate it.
You love to see it, definitely the bright face of our ever-improving world, especially compared to the past.Things being WAY better than what is generally thought. Evident luxury. Shutting up the doomsayers worse than Houston (who was pure luxury to have on the court) did back in his career. The guy was a certified premier player besides being a kind class act already; no wonder they called him, definitely the best choice.
I wish i would’ve learned fundamentals the proper way and not just learning off the fly because sometimes I think to my self “was I shooting wrong this whole time?” Either way I still developed a silky shot as I got older it just makes me think how Much better I would’ve gotten if I stayed playing for the basketball league at my local park during my early teenage years
I’m a total beginner was making maybe 2 of 10 free throws. Simply watching this excellent video and practicing the shooting form increased my free throw percent up to 50%

One of the best pure shooters to ever grace the hardwood. An absolute favourite memory of mine from the late 90s era is when he hit that shot against Miami. This guy to me represents the NBA on NBC from back in the day, I’d be lazing on the couch all day Saturday and Sunday watching 5 games back to back (always starting with Toronto at 12:30 PM and finishing with the Lakers at 10:30 PM), while my mom yelled at me to clean my room. I miss that NBA.

Helped me immensely in combination with Steve Nash shoot around. I also saw a video about acknowledging if im left or right dominant. I'm alot more aware of my form now and how da ball feels. Just need to practice alot more. But I definitely feel a bad release from my good ones. Night and day difference from me 3 days ago lol. Secret sauce: I tried to make the U shape with my left hand and shoot with my Left for a bit. It was a struggle....but almost instantly my handle with my left hand was better. Something to try if you can't do shit with your off hand lol

holy smokes, i rebuilt my jumper with this information and i swear to god... it's absolutely amazing. The muscle memory involved actually makes it easier to shooting without thinking. But i can tell that it will take a very long time to develop this shot where it's subliminal.
Lot of good tips here .. especially about your legs/base and soft release being the key to shooting. The ball should roll off your finger tips. But I prefer to describe the elbow positioning as tucked directly under your hand as much as comfortably possible .. forming the straight U shape he described at the basket. This ensures your arm will push vertically straighter and more consistently towards the basket than if your right shooting elbow sticks out further to right than your hand. So your elbow placement depends on where your hand is lined up .. not really your ribs. Some player have ball closer to center of body, some have it outside their head. A little outside the head is much easier to learn and to do more consistently. Because it makes it easier to get your elbow directly under your hand than if you shot release is closer to center of your head/body. Guys like Reggie Miller have terrible form with his elbow ... but he practiced his butt off to do it the same every time. This is very hard to do for most people. Tuck the elbow under the hand as best you can. The longer you work at this, the easier it gets over time (months to years for some). There are very few Reggie Miller's .. don't shoot like he does assuming you will be able to shoot like him ... 99% of you will fail. As for right leg forward (for right handed shooter), agree it can be a little forward. But it is critical to work hard at getting your legs as close to parallel as you comfortably can. If you come to depend too much on right leg being too forward. It will make it easier to shoot going to your left because squaring becomes way easier. But you will have much harder time squaring to the basket when your are dribbling or running to your right, if you need to swing the right leg further to get it out front. So be sure it is only a little forward. As for your hands ... learn to shoot same with and without ball fakes. This will ensure you are gripping the ball properly AND are able to pull back your shot if it looks to be contested/blocked or you want to pass to somebody with much better shot. This is also something that takes time to get comfortable with. Over gripping is not good, but so is under gripping. Work on these things over time and you will get more comfortable doing it right over time. Learning to shoot is a process if you don't have good form already. p.s. Alan Houston needs no advice from me .. this is more for up and comers trying to iron out their shot.
Honestly, you don’t really need to have your feet set to the basket. Look at Curry, Lillard, Harden, PG13, Kyrie etc. They all have their feet slightly tilted, and it also releases tension on your shoulders.
High release is theoretically the ideal release, and it is for midrange, but you get less friendly bounces from 3 than a 60-70 degree release which is still high but not straight up. This has been proven. Also look at any excellent mid range shooter, wade derozan, high release. Curry and Thompson, 70 release
It's a progress. I also had that experience, but as I practiced more (didn't watch this video before) I could shoot 3s better, but not that consistent morely 1-2 shoots consecutively before I miss.
Don't focus too much attention on your technique. Just shoot the ball. Shooting should be natural. Most great shooters don't have a perfect technique. They achieve success through repetition with the shot that makes them comfortable the most.
Don't aim at back of rim. You will miss more. Jerry West NBA Legend that was a great shooter says aim at front of rim. Usually ball can bounce off front and go in. Have a soft shot it will bounce in more. I could make mid range when open at 90 something % when I was 16/17. 3s at 70 something % and open. Highschool 3 arc range

Try practicing up close shots, 3-4 ft shots with just your shooting hand. Do it on all sides of the basket
