I like the way he reminds me of do not do it too quick for the Jab step which you will not be able to read the defender's mind. But for me when I doing it too quick, the defender got even more confused what I gonna do. Which some how makes them scared of what I'm about to do and can't be able to react to my next move. In such case, I didn't even need to read their minds as I have already creat spaces for a jump shot or driving to the rim. Therefore, I think I would try a combination of slow Jap and fast Jab randomly for each time depends on what I feel like to do , go slow to read defender's mind or go fast to creat mis-reaction to the defender. Let me try this tmr and see how it goes.
Wow. Im starting to unify all sport. A jabstep in basketball is basically a feint in boxing. Same thing. He doesnt react you can actually land it. He moves away, it allows you ro follow up with a diffèrent ranged attack. He moves in a ceetain way to défend, ir opens up a new angle for you to move in on him... Cool! Funny its called a Jab Step.
Very interesting. Beaucoup he explain why he do it. The last comment is so interesting and important :forcely don t do quickly because you can t read the defense. With jab step you can creat space. "
The only problem with this video for somebody that doesn't know is establishing the pivot foot. If you first "establish" the pivot foot the way he showed, and then jab step, it's a travel. If you hopped wit both feet, the pivot foot is going to be established itself when you jab step. If you cought the ball with one-two, it was already established long before the jab step.
@@myboyfriendgonnagetyou97 Nothing wrong with Shane Battier, but Carmelo is known to have arguably the best jab step in NBA history. He uses it better than anyone
This is great. I literally scored 6 more baskets because of this.

Legend has it that Shane is still squashing that bug
The jab step is very effective, look at melo spamming it like its the kamehameha
LMAO
Lol, I bet he’s still gonna be using that since he’s still on the Lakers.
What a great teacher, I loved Shane when he was on that Rockets team

How useful and important is it!
This good channel, great explanation
Shane battier🔥
Thank you.
The goat told us differently . =)
Kobe is a great example of how to do a jab step
Thank you
Wow that floor is perfect polished
The jab is deadly. Defense was clearly frightened of the guys driving ability. Got space to shoot.
Tysm sir

Jesse Pinkman idk about that

nice
I'm new to the jab step, but I'm a quick ball-handler, so is there a way I can do a fast jab step and still read the defense?
What did the bug do to you but def understand the concept
one of the smartest players
I'd like to see shane go into depth with on-ball 1v1 defense. He was an amazing defensive player. Really something lacking in today's game.
@Seyi Olotu how did you turn this into something about Kobe?
@Seyi Olotu great d better O can't do anything about it
@Seyi Olotu I said good defense but better offense
@Seyi Olotu are u new to english?
@Seyi Olotu technically you answered but dude why so grumpy someone hurt you or something?
SQUASH THAT BUG !!
No bugs were harmed in the making of this video
James Harden is masterful at this.
Kobe's jab was great as well (killer, to be fair :), just for another mention)
Ran out of breath 😂
This should be taught to NBA players today. Most of them do not know pivot foot or travelling.
Shane Battier will be POTUS 🇺🇸 one day.
How is this dude not a defensive coach? He was elite in that part!
❤❤❤
You’re exposing the ball to Pat Beverly.
Pat bev trick ya’ll. Lmao
Squish that cat!....I mean squash that bug!
Niceeeee
Looks like a triple treath tutorial
I wouldn’t call him a legend but he was pretty good and a good defender
Grant Hill in Detroit was a jab step master lol
Solid teaching.
What did that poor bug do jeez 🥶
I've never seen him use the Jab step in a game EVER!
Shane Battier, the master of the Jab Step 😂
😂😂😂🔥
I hope no bugs were harmed in the making of this video
Shane Battier for jab step drills?! This man is a corner shooter/defender
Melo and Kobe jab stepped on him so much, he is the best teacher 👉🏾"experience " 😅
You carried the ball and traveled when doing your third illustration of Jab step. You picked up your pivot foot while still carrying the ball
Me gusta ria jugar para el
To the kids out there: don't squash any bugs, there are living entities and most of them do no harm
Julien Razafindranaly thank u
Shane Battier is a legend ??? realy ?
Squash that bug 🤣🤣
I got dizzy spinning around, not traveling.

NBA legend ... yeah no. Respect from Michigan.
did he run out of breath?
True?
All good and dandy right after he made the first mistake by establishing pivot foot for no good reason.
I'm learning a gab step from a guy that never had it apart of his repertoire in the NBA. Neat
Every player learns the jab step
Even a peasant like me know it.
I thought if you held the ball with 2 hands you can't continue your dribble or that would be double dribble
1:08 So something that happens on a daily basis in an NBA game and not getting called by the refs. 😂🤣😂🤣😂
Those uncalled travels right? I hate it when they don’t even call it.
@@tonychen3368 Yes sir or all these not called offensive fouls.
This guy sure likes to squash bugs
squash the bug is cool but beat that b is cooler
What's the name of those shoes?
Peak Shane Battier.
With all due respect, they should've had Melo give this lesson
No disrespect but what's wrong with Shane battier?
@@myboyfriendgonnagetyou97 Nothing wrong with Shane Battier, but Carmelo is known to have arguably the best jab step in NBA history. He uses it better than anyone
It's crazy how you think you know the general scale and look of a basketball and then it looks like a grapefruit in giant's hands lol
0:47 except if you’re James Harden
Yeah how can ppl say that’s legal
I think sometimes hardens feet are planted already and then maybe it’s legal to set your feet the way he does it lots
Gabriel Waggoner its all timing
Hi
I wish i am tall to play this game
Actually the rules say it HAS to be whatever your current back foot is. Found that out in a real game.

Hi Radom person scrolling through the comments
It's a joke they didn't get melo for this
For the first read, isn’t it travel when you drive to your right with your right foot move first then dribble and then step your left?
