I just love how those wooden lids for the glass storage jars, or bowl, actually also serve as a coaster. Quite handy if the jar has been microwaved or heated in the oven, and then just place it on the lid!

Those big Ikea bags are perfect for moving your child to college. They take up little storage once there. We just used them on vacation when we needed to bring our own linens to the house we stayed in. Then they became our laundry bags. The best.

I use the ikea bags are laundry bags. They are big enough to take a huge load of laundry to the basement and because they have handles, I can throw them over my shoulder and have my hands free. They are fantastic. I also use them for recycling. We have to separate our recycling here, so I have several hung on my garage wall for easy separation…. Then if there was anything gross in there, I hose them out. Love these bags!!

It has just been during this year that I hear so much about throw pillow covers in videos from English-speaking countries, just as much as I hear about how to put your duvet cover on by grabbing the inner edges etc. This is quite interesting and fascinating ... in Germany, we are used to having throw pillow covers rather than having tons of throw pillows. We are also used to putting covers on our blankets (we do not have duvets, each person has their own blanket 😉) and pillowcases by grabbing the inner edges of the cover and those of the blanket/pillow and pull the cover over it. It is great what social media can do for cultural exchange 😍🥰 Love your channel. You are so authentic and nice.

Yes, I'm always surprised when shops just sell the cover and cushion together. I remember them always being available separately when I was younger, and some shops still do today, here in the UK.
I don't want to store cushions, so even if I like a cover I might not buy the whole item. It's always possible to buy a new cushion for an old cover, although it depends on whether it's a standard size or not.

I Love their children section because, I love their toys both, great pricesed and durable. The dog beds can double up as a place for your baby to nap too.
I am also crazy about their bags, very useful.
Don't go often but, when I do, I usually spend about 3 to 4 hours. IKEA is like a museum experience for me personally.
I have never seen the plastic/silicone covers, definitely will get next time. Their knives are also very high end at a comfortable price.

My favorite "secret" product at IKEA is the simple white glass serving bowls but used as regular bowls instead. They are about $2-3 each and make AMAZING soup/salad/pasta/etc. bowls. They are big enough for anything you could possibly eat, super easy to clean (nothing sticks to them really), and since they are a simple white design they make everything look professionally presented. I barely even use our regular sized bowls anymore.

Love Ikea, in general, but especially for their kids stuff. We bought the mega paper roll & holder & it has gotten so much use. We've made huge birthday signs, during the quarantine we made signs to post on Grammas' door, get well signs for neighbors...it's amazing the ideas you get with unlimited paper. Plus their tea set with some of the fabric food goodies have kept the kids occupied for hours! And we've had the set for 4 years & only have one chip!

The bags! Not only the size but the strength!!!? I have never broken one!!! I have 37389373 and have given away just as many 😂. So good for dirty laundry, shoes, obviously groceries, holds all my Sam's club bulk items just fine. My new use for ikea bags is when we go away it holds 3 pillows long ways! I binder clip the short handle closed so it doesn't flop open and then use long handle! That's my fav hack with ikea bags carrying anything on a trip bc I use them often. Keeping it closed with a large binder clip. I swear, I'm obsessed, and not sorry about it🤗

    • @miaschu7614

I have found fabulous stuff there: a lovely patterned armchair cover set, that was a limited edition and I wanted but couldn't afford at full price (I found it in the odds & ends fabric bin for less than £10!); a Nikkeby two drawer chest for half price; a Muskan shelving unit for £10 (already put together, so it might have been ex-display); and one that I didn't buy - the Jonaxel 3 tier shelving unit for £12. When I went home, I measured my counter top freezer and realised that the unit would have been the perfect size, plus the raised bars would (and do) keep the freezer from moving when I open the door. I ended up paying £29 (which is very reasonable) for it.
It's definitely worth looking at that section, especially if you know the dimensions of what you want the item for.
I bought the armchair covers and the Muscan unit many years ago and they're still going strong.

    • @miaschu7614

I'm all for helping people, but Ikea is a business and many people fonate their old furniture when they buy new. (Why colleges, btw?)
In the UK, there are charity shops that sell furniture cheaply, including Noah's which also trains people so that they can find work. The Salvation Army and other organisations receive donated items that they give to people who are struggling.
Other furniture business get stuff returned or have ex-display stuff that they don't always make available to their customers at such good discounted prices; nor do they donate them.
I was grateful to be able to buy discounted items at Ikea when I wasn't working and had to move home.

The overmatt silicone set is wonderful! The pink one works perfectly on the 3oz size cat food cans. Teal size is great for that half of a tomato, onion, etc. when you don't want/need to use the whole thing. The tiny white one isn't used as much for my house, but it does work well on bottles, bananas, and cucumbers. They are dishwasher safe, but I never feel like they are cleaned as well in the dishwasher. I hand wash mine, flip them inside out to look like a jellyfish/shower cap, and set them on top of some other dishes so air can flow around them. My hubby was skeptical when I brought them home, but he admits now that they are one of the most useful items I ever bought from IKEA.

And they’re basically water proof so they’re perfect for hauling stuff when you’re camping. Inevitably things will get dirty and/or wet and you need a big bag to toss things in.

I love Ikea! Their pre-made curtains are really long. I live in a late Victorian house with really high ceilings, so my window curtain drop needs to be about 3 meters. I bought some of their velvet curtains - actually a really good velvet - unpicked the seams and remade them as thick inter-lined curtains. They cost a fraction of the cost of buying them in an Interior Design store, or even just buying the velvet in a Department Store.

My must haves from Ikea is the KALAS "kids" plates! These things are awesome microwave/dishwasher safe plate with a nice high edge. It keeps all the food on the plate and small-light enough for the kids to carry around themselves. I also started using them in my lunch when I need to heat up something that doesn't really need a tupperware bowl. The grown ups use them just as much as the kids.
Bonus item: SKadis pegboard! Craft room, kitchen, garage, entryway... they are amazing just about anywhere!

Oh yeah, that's another reason I hate Ikea. It's SO disorganized. The last time I went, a yr ago, they advertised foldable tables and things for RVs. They didn't have anything. And I noticed I went to the checkout area, because that's where they have the things that make sense to me. Unless they have something like the over mats, thank you Karli, I will avoid Ikea like the plague

@@JanineMJoi Try shopping IKEA online, where you can use search instead of wandering about. True, some items do not deliver or you may not want to pay delivery, however, you can also check stock in store (or several stores, in case you are near more than one). So shop on your computer, then print out your shopping list and go...

@@JanineMJoi most of the time, at least in the UK, the stores are set out in a way that is very organised (like with like). I agree it's not always easy to find things, but that's probably more to do with the stores being so big and them having so much to look at, than them being disorganised.

I took an advertising class in college. When a brand name product becomes the generic name that equals gold medal status! The inventors and companies love it because it just reinforces their products are our first thoughts subliminally and/or spoken. I think age, area of the country, and community play a role in the name, but also the pronunciation.
Besides Ziplock bags and Tupperware, btw I use those names as well. Here are a few more I use: Kleenex, Jello, Saran Wrap, Reynolds Wrap, Sharpie or a prior permanent marker we called a Magic Marker, and Tylenol instead of saying acetaminophen. Way more common than the ‘word police’ patrolling your vocabulary.😉😀

    • @spiicyliime22
      @spiicyliime22 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Calling a product by their brand name definitely doesn’t equate to subliminally thinking about that product. I’ve run into so many people that truly didn’t know what the product was called something else and what they called it was a brand name. It’s a good thing to know what products are actually called instead of being a free advertising vessel for these brand name companies.
