myself and my sister used to like it, we watched TV together she enjoyed murder she wrote and Dr Quinn Medicine women. We lived a humble life those day it was simple life no stress even if we had not much. I was in std 1 and she was in std 4 in 1995. present day, I never expected my sister to die. I miss my sister watching this right now.
This portrays the Volkswagen brand perfectly and reminds me of my late dad, my first vehicle my dad's jetta 2 was presented to me on my 21st birthday in 1994
This ad has sentimental meaning. Remember watching it with an uncle in December 1999. He some how paid close attention whenever the ad was on and he passed away in December 1999. At the time he was retrenched for over a year and could not get a permanent job even back then. He was married for 3 years. His kid was under 2 years old. He thought about all those goals in the ad but it was never going to come.
Shaheen I hope you uncle is in peace ,I hope you made that possibilities for his kid. Volkswagen always connect you with family, Volkswagen "people's cars" I am also from South Africa and back in 94 my dad gifted me his Vw jetta mk2 I had turned 21, and the car was only 5 years old. My dad chose to give up his mode of transport to make me happy, I have been in love with the vw brand as it remind me of my dear dad.Dad passed away of lung cancer 7 years ago. 22/02/ 2020 the tradition continues my wife bought me a polo vivo 2015 1.6 comfortline . Thank you babe
Great. I'm supposed to be a man, all tough etc. Just cried my eyes out - remember this ad well! Amazing how you relate better to it when you're older. My wife gave birth last week so I'm slowly relating to this situation. Thanks for sharing :)
My first car and best ever was a red 1979 volksie. Man I loved her. She broke down every two weeks but she was my baby. Also had a golf but nothing could compare to my volksie. I cried the day I sold her
... I can relate to this - 1970 VW Beetle was my 1st car - since then 7 more - today a restored T25 Caravelle... the memories are real for some of us! great ad!!
The essence of family is no more a reality in south africa, thankfully when we growing technology did not interfere with family life. The Volkswagen brand also provided love in most south African homes.
South Africa make awesome adverts, this another great example! Its because the law is strict about advertising, so they make them clever and emotional. Anyone else remember the BMW Mercedes ads? Or what about the tyre advert through the tunnel?
@schrire39 yo man im from south africa and were i lived i must say i lived pretty well of and you knw what i hate? is when people think all south africans r black well there not and they dont all got diseases or crime !

My sediments exactly. If it breaks fix , but the emotions of owning a vw will only be understood by a vw enthusiast like myself and you

It's about the CAR dude. As far as I'm aware very few maids and gardeners had cars in those days. The ad is what it is.

That's the plan!
Pitty he plays baseball and not rugby, would explain why he got a Volla instead of an RSI Conquest. Just joking, claasic add.
Baseball was quite popular. I knew kids joined clubs in Johannesburg to play it.
@gummyluv143 i know i miss good old south africa
Andre de Villiers
At the end, they don't show the part where the son JUST STARTS to drive the car, drives a bit and then crashes into a tree....but, oh well.
Why are they playing Baseball WTF
Maybe they thought they could use the add in the US market. But yes should have been cricket or rugby.
