  • Using glue as a pouring medium is not a new concept. However, there are tons of different types of glue out there; school glue, transparent glue, glue-all etc. Which one works the best?
    I am testing some of the most common glues that can be found in the United States. My testing includes CraftSmart White Glue, CraftSmart Transparent Glue, Elmer's School Glue, Elmer's Transparent Glue, and Elmer's Glue-All.
    With each of these, I compare them to the grading scale I used in my 11 Pouring Medium Showdown video (see related videos below).

      You can try clear glue, just make it thicker or don't use silicone when it is thin Debra. However, with the pricing Glue-All is so close there isn't a lot going for clear glue other than experimentation.

    I wonder if the silicone acts differently with the clear glue and that's why the swipes didn't work.
    I don't use silicone myself - I've lots of animals that get into stuff and chew and no room yet to isolate for pouring - so seeing the school glue do so well was awesome for me!
    Also I thought all the paintings were good despite the purpose of testing. A lot of the pouring I do is just water based with various thicknesses and different paint types (just started using satin and metallics). Out of all the pours I've done (And I am a beginner/newb, only 2 months or so doing this) I have one that I think turned out amazing.
    Anyway, THANK YOU FOR THIS; this helped me a lot for future projects!

    I used tacky glue just because that's all I had. I mixed a little water until a thin pancake consistency. I poured the tacky glue and water mixture in the center of my small wood piece. Then I dropped several color drops of acrylic paint around the earring and on top of glue mixture. I got a toothpick and very slightly moved the toothpick thru the paint and glue mixture, making designs, then let it dry overnight. The next day, in very small places the mixture drew up in very small places, making designs, exposing very small areas of the wood. But gos, it looked cool. This wasn't a typical paint pour but looked great on my wood earrings.

      That is a very interesting way to do it. Kind of like watercolor and acrylic pouring together.

    Utterly fascinating! The Cells on the "Elmer's School glue", totally surprising! You are right with the look of it though, really offputting. :-(
    Over here in the UK, we tend to use "No Nonsense" Blue Label contractor PVA from B&Q/Screwfix as a baseline pouring glue - "Elmer's Glue All" is here, 8oz bottles and rather expensive really. There is also a Craft PVA from a School's supply site called Specialty Crafts that many of us UK pourers use as well. (They also have some Own Brand Acrylic paints that are on par with Amsterdam (X4 - Medium body) and Pebeo (X6 - Heavier body) for about a 1/3 of the cost of the named brand!)
    I'm inspired to do a head to head of both of those glues, and also some clears that we have here as well!
    I want to get some Book Binders PVA to try as well at some point...
    Can you test Mod Podge Gloss please? It is a US PVA product, and we do get 4oz and 8oz pots of it - it's one of the suggested PMs to try for Sheelee Art over here.

      I haven't had some luck with the Mod Podge before but I'll keep it on my list of the next ones to try for sure Nikola.

    Lol! I've done the same with glues. Looked at floetrol ingredients, it's abbreviated as MIT/CIT. Amazingly some builders PVA is exactly the same (& much cheaper than Elmers etc. Goes much further.) Just needs lots of dilution with distilled water which I warm to mix quicker. I've added drops of polypropylene glycol to some of my pouring medium for flow enhancement & cells ( really cheap liquid used for home made vaping liquids, not like silicone, doesn't need cleaning before varnishing) love experimenting! Great video!

      @LeftBrainedArtist  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have tried the builders glue but my black and white one started to yellow so i have to be careful what colors I use it with. I haven't used it since but I might need to do some tests like you did.
      Just reading up on the polypropylene glycol and my mind is blown 🤯🤯🤯

    • @mumo9413
      @mumo9413 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LeftBrainedArtist yes, not all builders glue is the same. Has to state CIT/MIT. Totally agree some do yellow.

    I have to say I like the crafts smart glue test best. I just got some elmers glue all and I’m excited to try it out but I think I’ll buy the craft smart next time.

    • @LeftBrainedArtist
      @LeftBrainedArtist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on what look you are going for Kristi. Elmer's will give more solid lines. Craftsmart will give more color mixing and softens the colors a bit more then GA. Both are great.

    You went to an incredible amount of work to do this. Wow! Thank you. These are interesting results. When mixing craft paint with floetrol, trying to to get it thick enough to use, I added glue all which really helped.

    • @LeftBrainedArtist
      @LeftBrainedArtist  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      With craft don't use more than 1 part medium (either Floetrol or Glue or combined) to 1 part paint. Craft paint just doesn't have the depth of color (pigment load) to allow diluting too much.
