      It “flew under the radar” cause our corporate controlled world music industry suppressed it - absolutely no reason monetarily for them to promote this a song bringing listeners closer to Christ and enlightenment about this greedy profit centered world

    As kid of the 80s and a teenager of 90s this album has been timeless. I later learned this song was about Judas and his betrayal. In the past 2000 years, he never got any empathy except this song and when archeologists discovered the Gospel of Judas and other forgotten (and edited) written works. Just an armchair historian with no religious motivations. Amazing track to hear in September 2020.

      Actually it's about Jesus being betrayed by Judas. The perfectly placed kissed. Once again Jesus chose to suffer and this time under the act of betrayal. Jesus is beautiful and my comfort in the betrayals I've faced. U2 captured something no one else has in such a way. A masterpiece of a song. Most likely directed by the Holy Spirit himself!

It took them a year from recording to then re-dubbing in the studio to make this album. What pop act is going to be playing for months on end in the studio for one album lol. Today 10 albums are recorded in the time it took Achtung to come out but those 10 albums won't be remembered after 1 month. In modern Music industry it is about the latest song not album.

    I'll never forget the first time I heard this on the radio. It was one of those rare but wonderful "WOW" moments were you hear something really great for the very first time and it grabs you and there just isn't enough volume or words to describe the euphoria of the sound.

    This song is about a conversation between Jesus and Judas, but I have always thought of it as an indictment of a lover's betrayal and, at the same time, mourning plea for that person's affection.

    • @JR-zv6qm
      @JR-zv6qm 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Although Bono wrote it about a conversation bw Jesus & Judas, he has always said that his songs can mean whatever is personal to you. I think if that's how you interpret this song then thats great. I'm sure Bono would approve!

      Lyricaly, this one reaches me more than 'Amazing Grace' does, same theme...."Waves of regret, waves of joy, I reached out to the one I tried to destroy. You said you would wait till the end of the world', literaly gives me goose bumps every time I hear it.

      this song, like many of theirs, is indeed about the big jeez. and like any piece of poetry ever, obviously you can take whatever meaning you want from it, but that doesn't change what the author / poet wrote it about to begin with; that isn't objective.

    • @cw9817
      @cw9817 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Robertsmith3828, sure, you can take it that way. At another level, though, Bono constantly writes about God as a lover in the vast majority of U2's songs, and Bono's favorite synonym for God is "love."

    This is the song of the general scope of more than the mid of people around the world, auto destroy behaviour. A angel and a evil in each day, against who can save to them
    Great song, great guitar, Edge is amazing really!

    The song has so many meanings! It is inspired! From a non believers standpoint it’s about Judas not understanding what Christ’s reason for being was other than service to the poor and downtrodden- from the language used by U2 and rhythmic beat of post chorus crying out “love , love, love” in the background (for me) it depicts Judas drowning in sorrow of not being able to receive Christs love and the egregiousness of what he did, before finally asking for forgiveness (at the crescendo)

    I cried and cried first time I heard this.. knew right away it was from Judas' point of view. which as a tiny kid, I got yelled at by nuns for defending Judas, for saying possibly Christ forgave him. I think of this as Judas' hymn.
