It is 1:27 AM April 4th where I am now. I play this in honor of the angel among men that was Mr. Martin Luther King Jr. He gave his life for equality and even today his words resound as strong as they did 50 years ago, with likely billions of admirers worldwide. Thanks for giving all who yearn for justice and liberation such glorious words of inspiration. Rest in eternal bliss Mr. King.
oh wow me too. My favorite band and my heritage. I'm from a small town, Galveston Island, TX where the emancipation proclamation was declared. Also, I was living in Memphis at the time the song was released. To this day, I still het choked up as a few tears run down my face.

The Unforgettable Fire is U2's best album, in my opinion. It has an atmosphere, a spark, feeling and dreamy, experimental, ethereal mood to it that none of U2's other albums have.
I feel like Zooropa has a pretty similar ethereal vibe, but whereas The Unforgettable Fire is pure rock, Zooropa is even more experimental with its sound. Regardless, they're both great albums in my opinion.
"they took your life. they could not take your pride" -> "they can take your life. They can not take your pride"" - ALWAYS FIGHT FOR FREEDOM and your RIGHTS!
A lot of U2 songs are actually gospel inspired- take still haven’t found what I’m looking for - about our lord and Savior is you read the lyrics This song is about our lord Jesus Luther Martin Jonah and Moses if you listen again to the lyrics - I absolutely love U2 and think they the best band by far of many 🙌💯😍❤✝️

It was February 10th 1989, when my family got MTV. When it came on the first video was this one & 10 year old me was hooked. Now I´ve seen them live 4 times & they´ve never left my top 3 favorites. Those 3 albums: War, The Unforgettable Fire & The Joshua Tree became a huge part of my musical upbringing & The Edge has probably inspired me more as a guitarist than any other.
this song has so much energy its unbelievable, from the message, to the singing, guitar, drum and bass, still an actual song after years pass. Excelent!
I grew up in 60s. The brilliance and emotion behind every line of this song!! Love but so much violence, towards those who speak love,!! Heavy, emotional song for those of us that were there!! Love the tears
The same exact thing happened to me as a kid. It hit me like a ton of bricks...very powerful stuff. It's an anthem, a rallying cry...still just as powerful for me as the day I discovered its meaning.
They were all one man. The goal was the same. To save us from ourselves. True work of art, This one man, is deeper than many of those who know all the words.
MLK 50 YRS AGO TODAY, His life ended but his message still strong!!! THANK YOU U2! I love this song because it is beautiful Great song and love the guitar in the beginning! What mouth breathers disliked this song ? This is a powerful song . Love it
I was 4 years old on April 4 1968 when while standing right in front of his room door on the outside balcony of a Memphis Tennessee Motel the greatest ambassador of peace, love, honor, respect and dignity who was awarded the distinguished title of Noble Laureate, earning the Noble Peace Prize for his ceaseless unwavering commitment to ensure future generations of all races creeds colors and gender unconditionally live together peacefully with the lack of oppression for all of Earths inhabitants without biases nor prejudice of a person's religion or lack of religion Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist, Zoestrian or Pagan made no difference to Dr. Martin Luther King who's life was taken early morning of that day. For no other reason than racist hatred and bigotry by a man who himself never contributed anything positive or valued for the enrichment of society in his entire life. I only take a little bit of comfort in what the song suggests that they took his life but they could not take his pride. I do take much more comfort and knowing that while Dr. Martin Luther King was living he made the world a better place to live getting better each and everyday he drew breath on this planet for the sake of all humanity and that he is undoubtedly in the loving arms of our creator in heaven where he is undoubtedly making it a better place while his presence is there. Peace Always, cv.
One night I was sitting eating something at the table in the kitchen and I seen part of this song and I really enjoyed it I used to hear this song on the way to my stepsister Kathy's when she drove me out there when she lived in San Diego and it always brought peace to my mind I really like this song and it's a really good one from you guys u2
Being African American growing up, I knew little of what African Americans went through ever since they were brought here to North America in chains in 1619 and subjected to slavery and all forms or cruelty for centuries in school I was taught very little of the struggles African Americans went through just not only to be accepted as Americans but as human beings. But we overcome racism, and racist injustice through our accomplishments, in war and peace, but our history was virtually ignored and forgotten and enough is enough. I stand with Americans of Native, Asian, Hispanic, Muslim, of all nationalities that made a contribution to this country and were subjected to racism as well. Every time I hear this song from U2, a song they dedicated to the Late Martin Luther King Jr, who made a difference in his non-violent policy of protesting and working for human rights for all Americans, not just African Americans. He and all in the Civil rights movement were brave enough to stand and defy Jim Crowe/Segregation and racism and make a difference. I listen to this song and sing it proudly. I believe there is hope. "Love can overcome hate. God bless you, U2, for dedicating this song to King. May freedom ring.🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🦅🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲

@Mary Teresa I'm not sure that you understand what "Communist" actually means? Or whoremonger for that matter. It might give your argument more weight if you researched your insults more thoroughly. Also, what your sentiment has to do with a great song, I'm not sure
Martin Luther was, ultimately, a religious man, and believed in the ‘nuclear family’. It’s unlikely he’d ever cheat, nor abuse women. You likely obtained that information from a white supremacist who was attempting to entice you into sympathizing with them. As far as the other comments: it seems rash, and most certainly immature of you to respond to this confused individual by bashing current politicians who have nothing to do with the subject.
Hard to believe this was put out all the way back in ‘84! Lyric, instrumental and production wise it sounds so incredibly clear, pristine, deep and impactful compared to a lot of other stuff out at the time, U2 truly were, and are, in a league all their own.
MLK 50 YRS AGO TODAY, His life ended but his message still strong!!! THANK YOU U2! What mouth breathers disliked this song ? This is a powerful song . Love it
This song beautifully reflects the man about whom it was written: Martin Luther King, Jr. I also heard it played a lot in the immediate aftermath of Nelson Mandela's death. I came up w/ my own special verse, if U2 ever did a new version just for him: "Sunny morning, like those before. Trouble comes out of clear blue sky. Brave leader, they locked you up. But they could not take your pride."
This song is about any martyr or hero who sacrifices himself in the name of love, including Jesus, MLK Jr, Mandela, etc... . Sacrificing oneself for the greater good of the group is the definition of a hero. Certainly the line about April 4th is about Martin Luther King Jr.
48 years today we lost Martin Luther King, Jr. RIP Dr. King your dream is still out there. What mouth breathers disliked this song ? This is a powerful song . Love it U2 - only sucess...
