Hey, I'm just watching the video and now I've realized something. I recently went from 900 to 1100!! And you know what? I didn't even notice I've changed much of the way I play the game. Haven't even studied... if not for watching Chess Vibes everyday. Specially these rating climbs and the saga Nelson's doing on the book. It is actually making a huge difference for me, even if I'm not sitting reading chess books all day or taking a course. Just watching, just for fun. In two months I made all that climb! So thank you Nelson, for being amazing and helping my chess journey one video at a time
I probably have been watching Nelson's chess content more and haven't been playing as much as I'd like to, but I still feel my game has improved specially in evaluating moves, seeing threats, noticing opponents blunders and avoiding some of my own. Great content. Great vibes. Great guy. Thanks Nelson.
In regards to the whole "taking a lot of time to think", it's what I love about this series. Most of the time watching really good players they very quickly analyse the position and make the move that makes most sense to them leaving me just thinking "Wait, why is that the right move?" You actually take the time to guide us through the process and various moves you've considered, and sometimes dismissed. Helps a lot in actually understanding the game. Thank you
I’m really loving these rating climbs. I’m learning to be more careful. You’re always cautious. Added about 300 points of consistency. I play good but to have the decent rating, you have to manage blunders and you show exactly how to do that. You don’t play safe (passive), you just are careful to not lose. That’s a big eye opener. I always considered playing safe as passive and would get crushed because I’m an aggressive player by nature. Thanks again 😊

Hey Nelson, I appreciate your content. I fall asleep to it every night. It is both educational and relaxing. My favorite series is the rating climb. You do a phenomenal job of teaching the thought process behind each move. Before I started watching you I could never understand the top engine moves.
Thanks for the explanation. I've been watching your videos for quite some time including previous rating climbs. I'm not a rated player but I agree with those who are asking you to move your pieces a little faster in the opening and middle game, because we've all seen those moves and your explanations of those moves. We don't like seeing you get into time trouble and start blitzing out moves and pre-moving so you don't lose on time. Most of us need more help seeing how to play an endgame. I agree, the whole reason I subbed and watch is because I think you are the best at teaching overall. I learned at least 4 solid things. Also, I learned to stay in the moment, make solid moves, don’t push pawns for no reason, tons more. The more I watch I remember to use something in my games. Thanks

@@thedugan8r593 Same, fam. There is NO good reason to suspect rice for his loss. The opponent played within his rating level. All the moves made sense. Not a single move felt like a computer move. Nothing. Nothing at all warrants a public accusing of cheating. This is poor sportsmanship, flat out. These kinds of losses are EXPECTED every 1-2 hundred games or so against players rates so much lower, and he's played WELL over what is expected for a legitimate loss like this to be normal.

People are so slow. Nelson isn’t accusing the person he lost against of cheating in this video. He’s talking about someone else who he won a game against. He never even said the person he lost against was cheating either, he said they COULD have been and and asked for everyone’s thoughts were on the situation, and he’s now accepted what people have said about the situation, so why is everyone bringing it up again?
It is true that people can be slow at times, including myself, but I think people are mostly pointing out how Nelson 1) questioned the loss to cheating immediately in the last video 2) was so salty he couldn’t stop bringing it up - even calling himself out at one point 3) then started this video up by pointing to that same poor player 4) regularly saying things like “I don’t know if he cheated or not” as if there is any suspicion in the first place 5) and used that as a lead in to pointing out an opponent was marked as cheating I think most people are pointing out that it is Nelson bringing that person up again. And that the associations he is bringing that up in, and the words he is using, he is conveying that he still has those same salty obsessive thoughts like he showed in the last episode, which was horribly unsportsmanlike and has left a bad taste in general to me about this channel. The way he now characterizes the game (‘it started bad for the opponent but magically in the middle the opponent got a lead’) is both not aligned with the engine view (where Nelson clearly made significant errors) nor with an internal view that “accepts the consensus opinion”. He is still salty and obsessing, and because he can’t accept that sometimes he makes errors that can beat by 70-something percent accurate opponents he is now latching on any reason to talk about cheating, even opponents he won where there isn’t evidence they cheated on his game - just because the stewing can’t stop. It’s a shame too, because I don’t think anyone watching cares about the loss - I’ve seen Jerry from ChessNetwork get scholarmated and that was just a hilarious episode looked on with fondness. People have also watched the skillful Nelson too and understand the knowledge he has to share - that’s why they watch. He’s a newish dad. People understand. I have 3 kids myself. But this focus on calling the other dude a cheater - sure we’re slow, but we’re not so slow as to miss that repeated implication - is just gross.
@@theEx0du5 People get mad at times. Nelson's probably just hiding it inside while trying to justify himself by asking whether he's cheating. Sure it's dirty, but at the end of the day, the opponent only gets punished if they actually cheated.

He even said at first he didn’t think it was due to cheating, and it was only when he looked at their stats that he suspected cheating. He brought up the cheating suspicion from that game in this video just basically saying that he agreed that sometimes people from that elo range can play inconsistently and play good games. He in no way raised any cheating suspicions or accusations about that game in this video. So, yes people are just bringing it up again when they don’t need to. He’s talking about someone else in this video.

Ha thats wild, I just watched that cheater game last night. Love your channel Nelson!! I'm just getting into chess a little more seriously now and started watching a lot of channels here on TH-cam, and so far yours is the absolute BEST at showing in-depth thought processes in a very clear and applicable way. I like how you don't just show a bunch of high-skill flashy moves, but breakdown how you arrive at your decisions and invite us into your inner monologue to the game. It helps me *think* about the game and not just memorize a bunch of moves. As a musician I liken it to learning licks vs learning music theory. SO glad I found your channel!!
Nelson I started playing chess around 2 months ago and seriously around a month ago and my elo has went from about 250 up to 700-750 in the course of just about a month of watching your videos I am playing most of my games with upper 70 or lower 80 accuracy and I truly feel watching you is to blame for the improvement you’re ability to teach is crazy some of your trap videos(fishing pole) have gotten me so many quick wins because you explain them so well i have even gotten better at calculating by simply mimicking you. Anyways you are a great teacher with a natural gift keep it up!!!!
I've learned so much from you. I just reached 1230 on rapid (was stuck on 900 before) 2300 on puzzles. I rewatch your other rating climbs on days you don't release a new video. Hope you're still doing calf raises!!
FedorZador did not cheat against you He made numerous bad moves, even after winning your knight with the (probably lucky more than anything else) pawn tactic, he proceeded to play somewhat poorly and lost his advantage After you blundered the rook in time pressure, that’s when it was truly hopeless, and he was able to convert what should be considered a trivial win even at a 900-1000 rating level

Same, I have plenty of games where it says I plays close to 2000 even though I’m 1050. Nelson blundered two pieces and still suggests his opponent is fishy lol

I agree. There is zero evidence that the person was cheating. Without evidence to point to, it should not even be hinted at much less be brought up as a possibility on a big platform. As a 700 I'm starting to get turned off by chess as a whole and this isn't helping. I have better things to do with my time. God forbid I very occasionally beat a much higher rated player because that player screwed up. Hey, must mean I'm a cheater. It's very disappointing.

hey - im 850-900 rank and play for relax and fun - if people want to cheat so be it, they can't be having fun. I like that you show your loses, shows that even great players can lose...rather than just show how good you are. I think i heard in one of your old videos that you said you learn as much in loses, as wins....for me the channel is perfect me to learn....thanks

He actually blundered a knight AND a rook but he still felt his opponent was cheating, if you give anyone with a functioning brain two free pieces they will probably beat you.
@@MurunGD @MurunGD no, not a super GM but vs someone who isnt a chess god? Absolutely. The suppossed cheater only had 78% accuracy it was a pretty average game from them.
Isnit just me or does anyone else hatebit when soemone resigns half way thru the game. I cant tell you how many times i lost my queen 5 moves in and still came out on top with the win!
On the other side of the spectrum you get those who get mad because "my opponent didn't resign a lost position". I never resign because at low level you NEED to practice endgames.

Loved how AverageJoe beat the Fried Liver! Yesterday, in the SCC Magnus almost beat Alireza when he tried the Fried Liver. By that time the match was pretty much settled, so it was fun to watch how Magnus played it. He did lose that game, but it was much later during the end game.
Sounds good in the movies, but below 2000 elo if you can't see obvious forced mate, best not to resign. Those 5%-10% stalemates or blundered forced draws add up in lost ELO.
It's actually beneficial when your opponent doesn't resign. This allows beginners to learn how to utilize their advantage and win the game. When I play, I often find myself with an extra rook, for instance, but then I encounter time pressure and lose due to time constraints.
Nelson: "You can't go wrong with two pawns in the centre and both knights developed" Me: "Oh trust me Nelson, I can totally find a way to go wrong with that setup"
I have to say I think Nelson is undermining his own dignity by not simply letting that loss go. When you're in a hole you should stop digging. It's disappointing.
The person who got banned for cheating was in the 900's for a long time before and after playing you, and that was likely his real strength, right before he got banned he started playing blitz and won 10 games in a row shooting up to over 1700 and got promptly banned.

30:50 A very important point of trading bishop is that the second one is generally considered 0.5 points more valuable than a single bishop or a knight, so giving up a bishop when we have a bishop pair should be considered carefully
Generally yes, you're right, but another thing to keep in mind is that piece value is relative, in closed positions a knight might be worth much more than a bishop
I wish you would show the Na5 line for black in the fried liver. That's what I play, and I get winning positions nearly 100% of the time because white has to respond perfectly to maintain equality. It's more solid and less risky than the traxler, and far better than allowing the knight sac on f7.
I disagree, just about everyone who plays the two knights defense goes Na5, it's pretty much the main line in that position; it's much easier to play and honestly a bit boring to watch at this point (at least in comparison to Nelson's choice) -- it's incredibly rare to see higher-rated players knowingly play into the fried liver and have to defend their way out of it. I found it really interesting and was disappointed in the opponent's play, I hope he tries again and gets a better opponent who actually challenges him and doesn't just trade off all the pieces
What I don’t understand is, what has the game two weeks ago that has been highlighted for a cheater got to do with the person that beat you? How does the game two weeks ago show us that the other account/player was cheating? Or am I missing something? Thanks
But what I’m saying is the person who has been highlighting for cheating two weeks ago against nelson , even though nelson won is not the same person/account as the person/account that beat nelson, they are not connected in any way, so how does the the fact that a different person has cheating previously show that the person who beat nelson has cheated at any time? Because I’m right that they are completely different people? The only reason that nelson had to connect them is that they had similar scores in the game review?

However, even if you do know he have cheated in some games, you don't know that he cheated in that specific game, right? So you cannot infer that the accuracy is related (or not related) to someone cheating by looking at that game. I guess no matter how good a move is, the system can only classify someone as cheater if he makes suspicious moves repeatedly.
can you please play the Grand Prix attack next time you face the Sicilian as white? lately i've been loving any opening where you push the F pawn (Kings gambit, Vienna gambit), win or lose it's always a fun tactical game as those openings can be very double edged.

Cheaters keep the accuracy rating down by playing normally and then cheating 3 or 4 moves in a row to get a better position. Im a 900 rated player so I suck and I go through it alot. It's frustrating to get a better position and in 3 or 4 moves your suddenly worse then you fight back to equal and then it happens again. When your not very good and suddenly see strange moves and then your in a pin etc it's easy to tell. It's just sad to cheat especially at a low rating.
But accusing people of cheating without any proof at all especially after loosing when making big mistakes and using the fact that someone else cheated who had a similar percentage at the game review as being your only reason for the accusation is in itself cheating
and your opponents say the same about you, when you "fight back" get out of a losing position in 3-4 moves? It's just a normal thing to happen if you are not at the level to find the right continuations.

I really think nelsons chess channel is the best for people who want to pick up knowledge of the game, as he is thorough and understands that people with lower ratings need to be spoken in more simple terms, and he does that, and that is not easy to do when you are so far advanced in a subject, I know I ribbed him for being a sore looser (but nobody is perfect and he would beat that player without any problem’s at all usually , we all know that), and like everyone else we are all evolving in the great game of life and learning our way through the trials on the way, 👍✌️
And nelson did actually say that the rice was related to the game that he won and not the one who beat nelson, and that is what is causing the confusion, people think it’s related to that game , but I do think it’s coming from a hint of bitterness, anyway I’m just saying because I got confused myself, Anyway I’m looking forward to the next video ✌️😎

Alright. I was about to go off on Nelson for not letting his one loss go... then the mad lad WALKS INTO THE FRIED LIVER AND WINS! Hot DAMN he's on fire!
The problem with stockfish is that it assumes you are also playing against stockfish. Many positions are like a dance with each side knowing the moves.
I think I played a nasty d4-e5 trap, against someone, yesterday, & am trying to find if it's got a name. All that searching brought up was the Englund Gambit, which I'm pretty sure isn't it. I normally play different stuff, but usually e4 or King's Indian (which I accidentally worked out on my own, long ago), but played d4 to mix things up. I don't remember the whole line, but I quickly got my knight on F6 for check (also took a center pawn, with my queen, at some point), saw my bishop could check again, forked the king & queen with a double check with both, then my queen took the rook, along with black's entire back row. Had he not moved his knight to G8, forcing the king back where it came from, it would've probably been mate, instead of gobbling up all the pieces. I could be wrong, about it being F6, but I remember the sequence of checks, the bishop was definitely on F8, & I think the knight had one space between it & the bishop, hence thinking F6. It's also possible the knight moved one or two times (probably H5 & G7, trying to reverse engineer how I got the fork), not listed in the sequence of events. So, something like (my moves only) qxE5, nF6 check, nH5, nG7 check, bF8, nE6 double check, nxD8, qxH8 & the rest of the back row. First time trying to use the notation, so there probably are errors. I'm pretty sure I've seen this line, before. Probably here, at some point.
It feels like about half of the players out there want to do a fried liver. After watching your video on how to play against it about 30 times and trying to win as black with mixed results, now I just do the giuoco piano.
The fun part about that is using the Traxler against them! I won like 9/10 games lol. With the 10th game being someone who actually knew the lines on how to survive -- or I misplayed some moves :P

I think most people are pointing out that it is Nelson bringing that person up again. And that the associations he is bringing that up in, and the words he is using, he is conveying that he still has those same salty obsessive thoughts like he showed in the last episode, which was horribly unsportsmanlike and has left a bad taste in general to me about this channel. The way he now characterizes the game (‘it started bad for the opponent but magically in the middle the opponent got a lead’) is both not aligned with the engine view (where Nelson clearly made significant errors) nor with an internal view that “accepts the consensus opinion”. He is still salty and obsessing, and because he can’t accept that sometimes he makes errors that can beat by 70-something percent accurate opponents he is now latching on any reason to talk about cheating, even opponents he won where there isn’t evidence they cheated on his game - just because the stewing can’t stop. It’s a shame too, because I don’t think anyone watching cares about the loss - I’ve seen Jerry from ChessNetwork get scholarmated and that was just a hilarious episode looked on with fondness. People have also watched the skillful Nelson too and understand the knowledge he has to share - that’s why they watch. He’s a newish dad. People understand. I have 3 kids myself. But this focus on calling the other dude a cheater - sure we’re slow, but we’re not so slow as to miss that repeated implication - is just gross.
@@theEx0du5 People get mad at times. Nelson's probably just hiding it inside while trying to justify himself by asking whether he's cheating. Sure it's dirty, but at the end of the day, the opponent only gets punished if they actually cheated.

He even said at first he didn’t think it was due to cheating, and it was only when he looked at their stats that he suspected cheating. He brought up the cheating suspicion from that game in this video just basically saying that he agreed that sometimes people from that elo range can play inconsistently and play good games. He in no way raised any cheating suspicions or accusations about that game in this video. So, yes people are just bringing it up again when they don’t need to. He’s talking about someone else in this video.

I'm just getting into chess a little more seriously now and started watching a lot of channels here on TH-cam, and so far yours is the absolute BEST at showing in-depth thought processes in a very clear and applicable way. I like how you don't just show a bunch of high-skill flashy moves, but breakdown how you arrive at your decisions and invite us into your inner monologue to the game. It helps me *think* about the game and not just memorize a bunch of moves. As a musician I liken it to learning licks vs learning music theory. SO glad I found your channel!!
Nelson I started playing chess around 2 months ago and seriously around a month ago and my elo has went from about 250 up to 700-750 in the course of just about a month of watching your videos I am playing most of my games with upper 70 or lower 80 accuracy and I truly feel watching you is to blame for the improvement you’re ability to teach is crazy some of your trap videos(fishing pole) have gotten me so many quick wins because you explain them so well i have even gotten better at calculating by simply mimicking you. He made numerous bad moves, even after winning your knight with the (probably lucky more than anything else) pawn tactic, he proceeded to play somewhat poorly and lost his advantage
After you blundered the rook in time pressure, that’s when it was truly hopeless, and he was able to convert what should be considered a trivial win even at a 900-1000 rating level

I agree. There is zero evidence that the person was cheating. Without evidence to point to, it should not even be hinted at much less be brought up as a possibility on a big platform. As a 700 I'm starting to get turned off by chess as a whole and this isn't helping. I have better things to do with my time. God forbid I very occasionally beat a much higher rated player because that player screwed up. Hey, must mean I'm a cheater. It's very disappointing.

He actually blundered a knight AND a rook but he still felt his opponent was cheating, if you give anyone with a functioning brain two free pieces they will probably beat you.

Isnit just me or does anyone else hatebit when soemone resigns half way thru the game. I cant tell you how many times i lost my queen 5 moves in and still came out on top with the win!
Yeah - I want to play it out. I'd get practice with converting a win and I might screw up doing that.
On the other side of the spectrum you get those who get mad because "my opponent didn't resign a lost position". I never resign because at low level you NEED to practice endgames.
Also depends when i lose my queen what type of game it is either open or closed because ill keep going if its a closed position!

Yesterday, in the SCC Magnus almost beat Alireza when he tried the Fried Liver. By that time the match was pretty much settled, so it was fun to watch how Magnus played it. He did lose that game, but it was much later during the end game.
Some of these endings, I hear Mr. Shaibel's "You resign now."
Sounds good in the movies, but below 2000 elo if you can't see obvious forced mate, best not to resign. Those 5%-10% stalemates or blundered forced draws add up in lost ELO.
It's actually beneficial when your opponent doesn't resign. This allows beginners to learn how to utilize their advantage and win the game.
When I play, I often find myself with an extra rook, for instance, but then I encounter time pressure and lose due to time constraints.

The person who got banned for cheating was in the 900's for a long time before and after playing you, and that was likely his real strength, right before he got banned he started playing blitz and won 10 games in a row shooting up to over 1700 and got promptly banned.

I wish you would show the Na5 line for black in the fried liver. That's what I play, and I get winning positions nearly 100% of the time because white has to respond perfectly to maintain equality. It's more solid and less risky than the traxler, and far better than allowing the knight sac on f7.
I disagree, just about everyone who plays the two knights defense goes Na5, it's pretty much the main line in that position; it's much easier to play and honestly a bit boring to watch at this point (at least in comparison to Nelson's choice) -- it's incredibly rare to see higher-rated players knowingly play into the fried liver and have to defend their way out of it. I found it really interesting and was disappointed in the opponent's play, I hope he tries again and gets a better opponent who actually challenges him and doesn't just trade off all the pieces
What I don’t understand is, what has the game two weeks ago that has been highlighted for a cheater got to do with the person that beat you? How does the game two weeks ago show us that the other account/player was cheating? Or am I missing something?

Getting caught for cheating in chess, even only one time, means you're doing it over and over again. The detection of cheaters is pretty difficult.
But what I’m saying is the person who has been highlighting for cheating two weeks ago against nelson , even though nelson won is not the same person/account as the person/account that beat nelson, they are not connected in any way, so how does the the fact that a different person has cheating previously show that the person who beat nelson has cheated at any time?
Because I’m right that they are completely different people?

I guess no matter how good a move is, the system can only classify someone as cheater if he makes suspicious moves repeatedly.

Cheaters keep the accuracy rating down by playing normally and then cheating 3 or 4 moves in a row to get a better position. Im a 900 rated player so I suck and I go through it alot. It's frustrating to get a better position and in 3 or 4 moves your suddenly worse then you fight back to equal and then it happens again. When your not very good and suddenly see strange moves and then your in a pin etc it's easy to tell. It's just sad to cheat especially at a low rating.

I really think nelsons chess channel is the best for people who want to pick up knowledge of the game, as he is thorough and understands that people with lower ratings need to be spoken in more simple terms, and he does that, and that is not easy to do when you are so far advanced in a subject, I know I ribbed him for being a sore looser (but nobody is perfect and he would beat that player without any problem’s at all usually , we all know that), and like everyone else we are all evolving in the great game of life and learning our way through the trials on the way, 👍✌️
And nelson did actually say that the rice was related to the game that he won and not the one who beat nelson, and that is what is causing the confusion, people think it’s related to that game , but I do think it’s coming from a hint of bitterness, anyway I’m just saying because I got confused myself,

6.48 How is the King defending the knight when the knight is under threat from the Queen and bishop?
The problem with stockfish is that it assumes you are also playing against stockfish. Many positions are like a dance with each side knowing the moves.
I think I played a nasty d4-e5 trap, against someone, yesterday, & am trying to find if it's got a name. All that searching brought up was the Englund Gambit, which I'm pretty sure isn't it. I normally play different stuff, but usually e4 or King's Indian (which I accidentally worked out on my own, long ago), but played d4 to mix things up.
I don't remember the whole line, but I quickly got my knight on F6 for check (also took a center pawn, with my queen, at some point), saw my bishop could check again, forked the king & queen with a double check with both, then my queen took the rook, along with black's entire back row. Had he not moved his knight to G8, forcing the king back where it came from, it would've probably been mate, instead of gobbling up all the pieces.
I could be wrong, about it being F6, but I remember the sequence of checks, the bishop was definitely on F8, & I think the knight had one space between it & the bishop, hence thinking F6. It's also possible the knight moved one or two times (probably H5 & G7, trying to reverse engineer how I got the fork), not listed in the sequence of events.
So, something like (my moves only) qxE5, nF6 check, nH5, nG7 check, bF8, nE6 double check, nxD8, qxH8 & the rest of the back row. First time trying to use the notation, so there probably are errors.
I'm pretty sure I've seen this line, before. Probably here, at some point.

It feels like about half of the players out there want to do a fried liver. After watching your video on how to play against it about 30 times and trying to win as black with mixed results, now I just do the giuoco piano.
The fun part about that is using the Traxler against them! I won like 9/10 games lol. With the 10th game being someone who actually knew the lines on how to survive -- or I misplayed some moves :P
