Excellent tutorial on these JLR engines; I remember 20 years ago being told that the engine was the weak point and it looks like it continues to be. PS thank goodness you cleaned the camera lens, the glare was blinding me! All the best
@@hedydd2 No its an Ingenium diesel. More than 1.5 million have been made since 2014. Problem with the transverse application up until 2019 was the dpf being a short distance from the engine rather than up close to it as in Jaguar XE and XF for instance. If used for short stop start journeys only with no longer journeys, the dpf cleaning cycle is forced by injecting additional fuel to heat the engine up with resulting oil dilution as the excess goes down the bores. If oil services are not carried out at more frequent intervals, engine wear is the result.
@@fraser7744 so did they fix the issue since 2019? Having a brand new engine going bye bye after just 100k, on such a price tag of a car seems nuts to me. And yes I saw everyone stating oil dilution is a huge problem with jlr disco sports, but you were mentioning “up until 2019” and was wondering if they fixed it from 2020 onwards. Thank you and many thanks to the guys for the video, amazing skills!
What a cool guy Chris is, we known generally Chris rather Rob do the talking which to be fair I’m not much of a talker either Chris my trucking simulator videos I can’t do commentary so well done for doing that clip and talking on your own.
Doesn't need an engine. Change the bearings, clean out the DPF and you'll be good to go. Run it for a 1000 miles and if it's still good, get it gone 😎👍
When Big Diesel trucks get a rebuild they do a in frame, if you had used the micrometer to measure the journals and where in spect you could have replaced the bearings ,Turbo and DEF and would be like new it’s a diesel not petrol engine. I would drive it a little to see how it act. Great video ✌🏽
What a man Chris is, like a dog with a bone, do it right, do it once,a true perfectionist,a joy to work along side, get some DNA and we'll all be as fortunate to have a buddy like Chris, you lucky fella!!!
It's great that we can see more of Chris in the videos his knowledge is second to none he reminds me of a friends I had that taught me everything I know
Excellent work guys. Having experience in engines, I'd be fairly confident in saying that you'd be better off stripping, cleaning and re-shelling the engine you have, rather than taking a chance on a second hand unit. My only reservations would be if there's any damage to the bore on the cylinder that had spun the shells from the piston skirt touching, and the integrity of that conrod. The clean up is the biggest thing, because oil ways and galleries can still have lots of bearing material in them, as you were missing two shells. Good luck with the rest of the build. DPFs are the bane of modern diesel engines.
Really enjoy your longer videos and this has get to be one of your longest videos and that was really good of chris to record it and talk about what he was doing
Brilliant video chaps. So in a nut shell the cause was really the original owner not driving the car on long runs to blast out the DPF which killed the turbo which in turn caused oil starvation to the crank etc. I'm not a mechanic but you guys really explained how the route cause produced the damage. Will be waiting for the next vid. TT4now

Straight to the auctions if it were mine. Or we buy any car.
Love Chris being more involved in the videos, personally I’m not very good talking in front of cameras or people, well done Chris for overcoming this
When Big Diesel trucks get a rebuild they do a in frame, if you had used the micrometer to measure the journals and where in spect you could have replaced the bearings ,Turbo and DEF and would be like new it’s a diesel not petrol engine.
Can we have more "quiet man commentary" in future please if you can convince Chris 😀

Rob, don’t forget the channel only exists because you were willing to do the videos at the start, so big thanks to you buddy.. Great to watch and hear Chris now as well.
If Chris is doing that much work after hours, he's defo keeping it!
