The more I hear the phrase "we're all gonna make it," the more desperate it sounds. It's not some dramatic rallying cry, a bold declaration of a glorious future. It's more like the thing a character in a horror movie says to another character who's having a panic attack, after the killer cuts the power to the building and starts roaming the halls.

"we're all gonna make it" originates from Zyzz, a bodybuilding internet personality from the early 2000s. Zyzz and his general outlook on life spread through the lifting community, percolating within the /fit/ board on 4chan, where its both a sincere statement of hope and also used in jesting derision. weirdo crypto guys have taken the phrase, without actually understanding what it ever meant, just taking it at face value, because most of them are idiots. in conclusion, youre both right and wrong and it depends on the context

So, while we don't rely on the gold standard anymore but it still takes into account a country's resourses/debt. Crypto is just digital monopoly money. When you can just distribute trillions of this imaginary money that has no backing, then what is it ultimately worth? Maybe I'm too old to get it but just sounds like a computer-age con. @@James_Bee That would be the difference and capabilities with NFTs because they could be transferable between games. Stats do change, with reprints. Reprints are not that same as originals, a reprint can make an original more valuable or less valuable. Most trading card games have different formats that allow different kinds of cards. What they have been doing is not what the blockchain could mean for game collectables, and them being capable of being cross format. The problem is them trying to use the blockchain for micro transactions rather than game features and tracking collectables a player has earned in games. If everything didn't need to be profit driven, things could be different.

@@James_Bee The difference here is that sports games are more than just the trading card aspect.
NFTs and other blockchain based systems only maintain their purpose, promises, and functionality as long as 100% of the operations are strictly on chain and nowhere else. This technology is by design and mathematical definition incapable of interfacing with anything outside of it while also staying secure, because the second they try, they run into the oracle problem with data validation.
Small side note: ORACLE NETWORKS ARE NOT SOLUTIONS TO THIS. THEY ARE SNAKE OIL. THE ORACLE PROBLEM IS UNSOLVABLE BY DEFINITION. All they do is decrease chances of failure, not actually solve the problem.
Anyways, at best a sports game that uses this technology would just be a 100% separable game that promises to use data from a specific chain -> at this point in time

@@xblvr-nz9qf Problem with NFTs is, there is nothing they can do which isn't done just as easily by already-existing systems.
Say you have an NFT of a card, and it can be cross-format with a different game. The developer of the other game still has to specifically code that card into the game, decide what its stats should be compared to the original game, decide how it should be balanced and so on.
One might say owning an NFT of a card could protect you from ever losing it, which is technically true. Nobody can take that NFT away from you. But the developers can just choose to ignore your NFT in the game, making your NFT entirely worthless.
For tracking collectables, there are already many solutions that don't involve NFTs. The best example of this is the game Team Fortress 2. There are tens of thousands of unique cosmetics and weapons that are tied to their owner's accounts, with that item being the only one of its kind in existence. The owner can freely trade these items to other accounts (and in fact, trading like that is a huge part of why many people play TF2!)
There is one use case I can think of where an NFT might have an advantage: if the original company shuts down, and their databases are the only ones containing the item. With a standard database, without any precautions, that item is gone. With an NFT, that item would still remain in your wallet. However, to my knowledge, NFTs generally contain a reference to somewhere external rather than the data itself, so NFTs are not immune to this problem either. Furthermore, taking precautions such as backups across games/companies can mitigate this issue without requiring the use of NFTs.

I remember in the very early days of the internet that you could get a free domain name. Well, more like installing an extension in your browser, then registering a subdomain and link through with the website behind it and it would offer over 100 new domain extensions. Think getting a "domain" for a Geocities page.
It worked, for those who had the extension. Then it got shut down. Guess free doesn't pays.
The thing with NFT domains is that there is NO OFFICIAL NFT EXTENSION.
So the only way to use it would be to install something in a browser????
Even that stupid .eth is more useful. Even if 99% of the people don't know what it means.

The only reason NFTs and crypto have value, is because people say and think they have value.
In the terms of Crypto, in most cases, the people who are talking about why you should get in, profit off you coming in due to it raising the hype and thus profit of the currency. So it feeds into itself until the bubble burst and not enough people are putting money in by trading or minting these currencies, and the price plummets.

The woman with the diamond is actually onto something, even if she doesn't know it.
The diamond, just like NFTs has no real life value and its just a scheme by the rich to take advantage of the poor (the miners that get them out of the ground) and more stupid rich people for something that looks nice. But realistically can't do anything worthwhile.
She just got it in reverse diamond=NFT but she doesn't realize that they are both worthless, rather than valuable.
