Want specific behaviors to use while developing your game? You can probably find a plug-in that already exists or is helpful in achieving those goals, rather than adding it from scratch in your own in-house engine. @@kusog3 the big issue is that the change wasnt even a reasonable functional change. like an update to a function to make its types more constrained or such. It was purely a semantic change because the functions contained "master" and "slave" as part of the name. Having a "community manager" on it's own does make sense, because the role is intended to be a direct line of communication from consumers to developers, but people will abuse their "manegerial" powers regardless of how worthless they are.

It clearly still hurts them when their propaganda flops but avoiding it entirely is basically impossible. Don't mistake this for a blackpill though it's clearly hurting otherwise they wouldn't be getting desperate I'm just saying to give yourself a break when you inadvertantly support something that turns out to be corrupted, it's unavoidable and they don't even bother holding that standard and cheat on stuff they claim to boycott all the time and the ones who genuinely do try to do that go completely insane from the stress of having to carefully vet everything and inevitably failing. There's a reason most people don't actually bother going Walden/Superfly despite literal instruction manuals on how to do it being readily available it's a gigantic PITA and while impressive it ultimately removes you from the conversation and thus not advancing your principles on the societal level meaning the establishment wins by forfeit essentially, it's living by your principles by allowing them to die with you, a devil's bargain if ever there was one.
-Unity did the whole runtime fee fiasco -Unreal Engine mandates woke-speak in its documentation (using 'blacklist' is racist type of bs) -Godot is now "Wokot" I don't mean to doom and gloom but the landscape of game development is looking so bleak right now its depressing

Godot having having one stupid community manager changes nothing, even if they start adding stuff devs can just fork off since Godot is open source and free. I hear there are easy workarounds for Unreal too, tho Unreal is really only for 3D games, 2D on Unreal are bloated and oversized. Unity always was a blade without a handle, easy to drop, easy to cut yourself with, with all their stupid policies and changes. RPGMaker is an option, tho the engine is a bit limited with how it can be used. GameMaker I hear is pretty damned complicated, but some of the most original and unique games I've played are made with it. Twine is a game engine made for text-based narrative games, but some people have managed much more with it. Ren'Py is mostly for VNs, tho some genius aliens parading as human indie devs managed to make 2D RPGs and simulators in it. Let us also remind ourselves that most games are made from scratch, with no base engine, games ranging from indie nobody with alcohol and passion for a budget to AAA best-selling. So no , hope ain't lost. You just gotta abandon the wasteland you're on and look for greener pastures elsewhere.
As a godot user, I want to say this is because of Godot's new community manager, hired like 4 months ago. She is the living WOKE stereotype. No idea how she got hired. Godot has been woke for a long time, actually. At least the discord added pronouns and a rainbow icon years ago. And I warned people, but nobody listened. And yea, seems they still don't understand that politics are bad for business...
The godot engine is FOSS, so its not really a buisiness, the foundation is a charity I think. They only own the branding, so you can just fork the engine and do whatever you want with it, even make the default icon a swastika and sell it for money.
My take on this, as a hobbyist game devoloper: The Godot engine is open source, free, and created by group contribution, not a single team. EVEN IF the leadership considers themselves woke, and their community manager THINKS they're woke... the game engine itself, is NOT woke. The game engine cannot force me to add woke elements to my game design. The game engine cannot change my story. The game engine cannot change my character art. The game engine cannot force me to have a character creation system that adds woke elements. The game engine is a TOOL. And at this time, I don't think I even need to use the Godot splash screen, so nobody will know I used the Godot engine to create my games in the first place, even if they added woke elements to their logo... So, claiming to be a woke engine for social credit points is a pure virtue signal that means NOTHING.
This is the way of thinking in this situation. This drama is from community management side, not the engine itself but some people seems have a hard time to distinguish it.
@@scarm_rune I could not identify a single woke-inspired tool feature that was prioritized OVER bugs... the level of incompetence that may be evident by the existence of long-standing bugs could be attributed to a lack of programming skill in the team, but that would have been present from the start, and isn't the fault of hiring on woke devs at the expense of a merit-based system... and as Godot isn't really a "company" to begin with, it's not running like a business anyway, where such things would happen. (the community, consisting of non-woke members, could step up and contribute bug fixes as well...) I just don't see this as a "woke" vs "non-woke" issue... and to be clear, I do not support woke ideology.
youre right. one of the lead devs is a furry that's into the forbidden stuff. you don't see any traces of that in the engine so i thick were good for now

no the problem with cultural marxism is that it will infest anything and destroy everything you like while most people do to combat is just stand and watch.
Just a reminder that Godot is under MIT which means they can easily make new versions under licenses you don't like. If they decide to limit who has access to it and censor your games in the future they can, godot 5 could easily be closed source or ban developers who don't abide by their ideology. Blender is under the GPL instead of the MIT for this exact reason, and while godot shouldn't be under the GPL it should also not be MIT, for it to be future proof while still allowing closed source games to be released with it it should be something like the LGPL.
@@scarm_rune wtf man. Why would you wish something so bad to the one free engine which can make based games? Because a woke community manager hijacked the efforts of programmers? @@theyellowarchitect4504 If good will is important to them, maybe they shouldn't hire the most cancerous "community managers" possible? Just a thought.

You're kidding right? This was the one engine i had my eyes on... smh, i never thought this would reach as low as game engines. I've wanted to make a custom engine for a while but planned on using at least godot. I'll just stick to learning custom engine dev then.
After what happened with Unity, I know many indie developers were switching their game to run on Godot. Not sure they will switch again, seeing as how Godot it is open.
It's open-source so it could be forked by a single user or a group of users who maintain it independently. In this case removing the woke ideology is easy; to use an analogy it would require a mere pruning of the branches as opposed to burning the whole tree down.
To be clear, this only means the community is managed by woke people, not that the engine itself is woke. The engine doesn't impose any creative limitations on you. You can still do whatever you want with it. Heck, even Hitler could use Godot if he was alive, to do whatever he wanted. He just might not be welcome in the discord and other Godot community places.
The engine is 'okay' in its current state and free with no catches, I'm sure a range of people will continue to use it. But its core community is absolutely on-board with identity politics, and I have to wonder if it's alienating some would-be contributors from making the engine even better. Godot is not a product, though, so critiquing it as though it's a paid product comes across as entitled. You fix the issues you have with godot by contributing the fixes yourself, or donating and requesting someone headhunts them. Course there's also layers to it, some won't consider donating as an option if there's a risk of their money being spent on activism instead of the engine. And blocking any game developer on the official socials is an odd look regardless.
as far as their community goes shilling identity politics may not be the worst idea, as policing potential contributors and blocking them is the bigger problem
I gotta give props to the Godot community manager. He made a post where people can neatly organize their woke garbage games into a list so people can more easily know what to boycott.

@kunka592 I know it'll sell well, but could you imagine the message it'll send if it didn't? The uproar? The furor it will cause? Wokies will be going NUTS, and it'll be a massive wakeup call to so many people. It would, in a very real sense, be the apogee of "get woke, go broke" if a game like GTA could fail for it.
Yeah. My reaction exactly. Fortunately for me I don't hang out in their community so the devs inane opinions on DEI have very little impact on me and since all of the other game engines out there are also "contaminated" it's probably not going to impact resource management that much yet.
Godot is (currently) the least bad of well known game engines from a business standpoint. The alternatives are Unity (HAH!), Unreal (owned by Tencent and went woke years ago), and making your own. This isn't going to make me stop using Godot, but I'm definitely not going to be donating any money going forward. [edit]Man, blocking someone for saying "Hey, this bug is really delaying my project" is really petty and not a good look at all, and the worst part is, Godot actually has a history of this sort of thing.
in some of my small scale project's, I was proud to show the Godot logo, BUt now I'm sooo tired of all these identity politics and drama attracting DEI activists using it to farm engagement, I might even consider going back to Libgdx...
Yeah... this whole thing was pretty distressing. I spent the last ~3 months learning Godot and I've gotten pretty good at coding in it. Then this happens and you realize you can't really trust the people making your engine... and looking into it, there is some very systemic issues going on with the Godot Foundation that all sounds pretty bad. I'm gonna keep using the engine, but only because I see so many people saying "Lets Fork Godot!" and hopefully that will translate to a healthy level of support going forward... which was one of the primary reasons I picked Godot to begin with!
@@JohnnyThund3r Yeah, it's actually part of why this doesn't really shock me. If you knew what to look for, Godot was showing flags years ago. If someone decides to fork it, I will definitely take a look at that. I bet the first things they'll change are all the changes that Godot's lead devs rejected over the last few years. (improved collision detection, going back to Bullet physics, and fixing bitmap fonts) Ultimately, their two choices right now are: Slam it into reverse so hard the transmission drops out, fire the social media manager, and apologize for the blatant publicity misstep, or learn that even a free project funded entirely by donations is not immune to capitalism.
I would argue that making non woke games and openly dunking on Godot while using the Godot Engine is rather poetic. It's not like they're making you pay a subscription or anything.

Godot is a free and Open source game engine so peeps should not really worry about that and can still use the game engine. Not slim, just the shareholders and higher up not "feeling" safe doing it. The moment they do, it will happen. Same as we nexus mods not allowing some mods
i used this game engine and liked it because of the simplicity of creating a project. However, I needed some help from the community because I wasn’t understanding certain aspects and encountered several bugs in the engine. Unfortunately, the Godot community is extremely uncomfortable and toxic, with a form of toxic positivity. You can’t say anything bad about the project, and if you don’t use a pronoun in your bio, or if someone asks your pronoun and you say something like “male,” you are banned. Additionally, they engage in gatekeeping; you cannot have a different opinion. If you criticize, you are banned. Research and see the number of people banned from this community for extremely trivial reasons. Some advice, get out of this environment, there are countless better options and if you wish, feel free to destroy this place or create a fork. Edit: many people will say that it is open source, in fact it is, but they are aiming for profit, many people probably wanted projects to free tools in Godot, they were banned, they are nothing more than a company but work without pay
Man, Godot's Discord has been rainbow colored for over 2 years now, since the meme started that "oh it's July 1st, 0.00, gotta turn the gay off on twitter". Thats sad, i was really hopping for a succesful open source game engine that doesent pick politics/side/ company, but oh well, will just pick something else
This makes me feel like I made the right call not to hop on the hype train and instead to stick with Unity. There are things that I like about GODOT as an engine, but it felt undercooked for me. And with this...I would rather work with a greedy corporation than with an open-source project trying to tell me what games I am or am not allowed to make.

Godot fumbled having an entire year to innovate their product after Unity imploded. Now that I see that the company has been infested by activists, it’s beginning to make sense why the updates were staggered. I’m still optimistic for the future of the engine, but these companies need to severe these toxic community managers immediately.
Its a FOSS project, and the people flooding over from Unity were mostly garbage. You can just fork the engine if you want, its free so the foundation gets no money from your sales
The community manager for Godot ought to be fired on the spot. This is the thing about an open source project like Godot. Other people can fork it and start a new project from the same base. This allows progress to be made on the features the users actually want and cuts out the Marxists rotting the original project. Bottom line, when you make an open source product, anger your customers, and said customers are people who also know how to write code, that's a special kind of stupid.

Do not argue with these people. On the contrary, be polite and wish them luck by saying "May the people you cater to be the ones that buy and enjoy your product". That's it.
Out of touch suits want "what the kids are into" to make more money, confusing it it for "forward thinking," not realizing that they simply don't get "what the kids are into." How "out of touch" are these suits? Many don't even know how to open a cardboard box.
@@enforcerridley158also there's a lot of people that wanna pave a way into our kids pants. The green party of Germany for example has been caught twice having long term plans to legalize pdf-filea. Once in the 70s and then again in 2014
What's hilarious is that the Godot team is protesting other developers forking their open source repo! Lol it's like people who should be starting a for-profit company but think "non-profits==good" and proceed to waste years of their life by that mis-label.
September 2024 is the date month Unity made a comeback, first by reverting completely the retardation of the run-time fee, and second by letting their biggest rival (to whom they lost most developers to) shoot itself in the leg just when all the eyes are set on them to out-do Unity. I don't think many people will ditch Godot over it but oh boy they opened the flood gates for devs to question their loyalty to the engine and rather they should keep using it over a dozen other free+SC/free/freemium/premium alternatives.
Plenty of developers dumped Unity when they did the whole "we want to charge you for every download" thing - regardless of how much they learned to use said engine or how far in the development their game was. I personally know two who did exactly that, and they both say that switching to unreal was the best thing they've ever done purely on the ability of what they can do in their games.
They have been for a while. If you want to make your own game you are better off learning a bit of programming. It may be harder when you start but in the long run you will have more freedom.
Making your own engine isn't really a feasible option these days, as you would have to put in resources to learn all of the physics involved, the way textures interact with 3d models, the way light propagates in/on/off different surfaces, even just the simple effect of how to accurately project a 3d space onto a 2d screen, and then to know all of the efficient algorithms to make all of this executable in viable time frame. Even if you ignore 3d games and stick with just 2d, there is a lot involved in how animations are processed, how to depict what is shown on what pixel etc. This is why even something like Flash is an engine that handles difficult low tier stuff. Modern game design is standing on the shoulders of 40 years of development.
I mean, it's open source. The wokeness of open source programs is not so important. Because you can either not support it with money and still use it, or just fork it.
Well, shit. I started using godot because it was open source and rpg maker looked like complete dogshit. Unreal- ceo hates linux, see rocket league Unity- can’t trust them due to the pay to install bs Godot- went woke Rpg maker- dumpster fire Guess I’ll just toss it all.
Use Bevy; it’s my recommendation if you are getting familiar with Rust. It will be perfect for you. It’s still in development, but research it to see the projects you can create with it-they rival Unreal, and it even has a nanite technician. However, there are other alternatives, like MonoGame, which is great for 2D and can use C#. It also supports 3D but without as many features. Among hundreds of other free software options, Godot is the worst, mainly due to its instability. Besides private software, if you want to become a developer or work with games, there are plenty of options. Stop holding beer, and go program
I think the people in this comment section declaring that they have to stop using Godot now or stop learning it are either extremely dramatic or intellectually dishonest. While I agree that who ever runs the Godot twitter is super cringe, godot is open source and has over 2600 contributers and climbing. How exactly does the godot Twitter account being dumb effect the engine in anyway? Its an open source engine, you can fork it at any point if you decide that all 2600 contributers are some how tainted by the left. You guys are being a little ridiculous. And before you accuse me of being woke, im on the right. I just have basic reasoning skills. Not everything has to be the end of the world, pick and choose your battles.
I got blocked by the community manager while never directly tagging her. She must be lurking around threads of people disagreeing with her and blocking everyone proactively, she's completely insane and delusional and i do not understand how Godot foundation doesn't see this as a massive PR problem.
To be fair, I do keep saying people (mostly major companies that can afford to invest the effort) need to stop using pre-built engines and do their own work. But if I decide to be a filthy hypocrite and make something in an engine to 'play around with it and well I already made it so might as well release it', good to know I've got one more engine to avoid.

Want specific behaviors to use while developing your game? My take on this, as a hobbyist game devoloper:
The Godot engine is open source, free, and created by group contribution, not a single team. EVEN IF the leadership considers themselves woke, and their community manager THINKS they're woke... the game engine itself, is NOT woke.
The game engine cannot force me to add woke elements to my game design.
The game engine cannot change my story.
The game engine cannot change my character art.

Oh yeah, I was so annoyed about the people not understanding that its a FOSS engine that I didnt even think of that. Nice
The official response is a joke. "We were attacked... We are victims!" No. Your staff attacked people, faced backlash, and now claims to be a victim. The fact Godot takes the side of this moderator is just insane 100% crazy
Well, so happy I didn't waste time learning that platform. This is why we can never have nice things.

@@missilecarrier Same shit with GTA6, but it will still sell like hotcakes because it's GTA.
@kunka592
I know it'll sell well, but could you imagine the message it'll send if it didn't? The uproar? The furor it will cause? Wokies will be going NUTS, and it'll be a massive wakeup call to so many people. It would, in a very real sense, be the apogee of "get woke, go broke" if a game like GTA could fail for it.
Oh goddamit
Godotdamnit.
[edit]Man, blocking someone for saying "Hey, this bug is really delaying my project" is really petty and not a good look at all, and the worst part is, Godot actually has a history of this sort of thing.
in some of my small scale project's, I was proud to show the Godot logo,
BUt now I'm sooo tired of all these identity politics and drama attracting DEI activists using it to farm engagement, I might even consider going back to Libgdx...
Woke people are horrible people? I'm shocked, shocked I say! Okay, not that shocked.
Yeah... this whole thing was pretty distressing.
(improved collision detection, going back to Bullet physics, and fixing bitmap fonts)
Ultimately, their two choices right now are: Slam it into reverse so hard the transmission drops out, fire the social media manager, and apologize for the blatant publicity misstep, or learn that even a free project funded entirely by donations is not immune to capitalism.
Gowok is an Open Source engine.
Hopefully a Fork pops soon enough.
I would argue that making non woke games and openly dunking on Godot while using the Godot Engine is rather poetic. It's not like they're making you pay a subscription or anything.
'Oh, people assume the worst from us? Better prove them right!'
The fact that engine refused to implement native C/C++ support in favor of it own, completely worthless language that is useless everywhere else, already showed me how untrustworthy they are
They added c# instead
cuz Microsoft was directly funding that
c++ is supported trough GDextension . you just need to do some setup
Gdscript is basically python.
@@ali32bit42 Why do I need to use the Goddamned extension when C/CPP should have been supported by default, due to how popular it is? Why in the name of hell should I write code in VScode/VS studio as well as using the Goddot GUI? Why is Goddot stupid?
And with magical coincidences - Unity Engine a few days ago - went back to the old license plan, without bs of cents per installation, but at the same time they did not change a "under $200k - free, without subscription". (In back in a day, even before horrible changes it was only $100k limits.) And also a Unity 6 - is on development.
So...
Godot is a free and Open source game engine so peeps should not really worry about that and can still use the game engine. Heck if you wanted to you can even Fork it (which most probably wont due to to how much time that would take). Also Godot has been pretty transparent in what they update on their website and the same thing about their priorities it's the same way with Blender where you wont get all you want updated since in projects like that you do need people to maintain it. But something is wrong tho that community manager is not doing Godot any favor. Also here's some context Apparently the initial tweet was made cause someone in a thread said this "It makes sense doesn't it? Woke studios always use pre built engines to make games because they can't build their own engines."
Thankfully Godot is Open Source.
Meaning we can just make a Fork that.
RIP GoDot. Truly nothing is safe.
Thanks for the video! I used to be a Godot maintainer, and honestly, I never gave much thought to all the 'woke' stuff-until their toxic ideology started impacting me too. I feel like I wasted years of my life contributing to this project, and now I'm ashamed of it. Silencing maintainers, contributors, and users doesn't lead to a better product. Indeed, you can be banned simply for disagreeing on technical aspects of the engine, which has nothing to do with political stuff. If you're interested, my channel has some satirical videos about Godot that you might want to check out!
The problem with a woke game engine is when they possible will try to say you cant use the engine to make a game they might consider "problematic". We that can be almost anything now a days. Why I stop using character creator and unreal engine. Imagine putting the work in to be told you cant use their tools. The chance is slim they do that but, imagine being that person.
It's like what Epic is doing for their Unreal Engine with all the changes to programming code naming due to them being "offensive".

Man I should really invest in making my own engine now.
Man, Godot's Discord has been rainbow colored for over 2 years now, since the meme started that "oh it's July 1st, 0.00, gotta turn the gay off on twitter". They've been full of all kinds of ... creatures... forever. It's an open source project, so it automatically attracts many kinds of people, including the shouting ones.
The Godot based fork is imminent.
There are many many forks, I have my own fork with a couple minor edits
2:45 But Vee, I would have thought the Godot developers would be incredibly happy seeing developers TRANSITION between game engines.
You know the problem with woke platforms? They see NotC's everywhere and you trying to use that platform will be subjected to purity tests as you try to find solutions to technical problems while the platform owners look through your social media to root out wrong think.

Its usually the latter
I've forked Godot just in case... I'm not gonna make my own game engine and Bevy isn't ready yet.
