    My 13 year old daughter was able to do this by watching the video. She dropped her phone on Thursday, which completely shattered the glass screen (LCD was OK), and was distraught because she paid for the phone by cutting the lawn for two years. By Saturday she received her new screen (about $95 all inclusive). She asked me to help her, but quite frankly all I did was watch and give her helpful tips. She did 100% of the work following this video, which was very clear (the clarity and good lighting of the video really helps see everything). We used 2" wide clear packing tape to make little "bins" or "sticky tables", each piece of tape representing a step in the process. Roll the tape back on itself and stick it to the table, then place all the screws and parts in the same geometric arrangement as in the phone so putting it back together was a breeze. The video is excellent and very descriptive, but one of the steps I would have skipped, but not my daughter, was to test the screen once it was plugged in and before the phone was closed up. Great suggestion, as we had vertical lines showing up across the screen and were momentarily disappointed, but we went back and reattached the screen cables one more time and Viola!! it worked and now the screen was as beautiful as if it were new. Certainly a little tricky at times, and if you don't have patience to watch and pause the video and double check everything, then you might be one of the people that thinks it's worth to pay an extra $50 + tax for someone else to do it at one of the phone fix-it places. For me, I think it's better to do yourself not just for the savings, but to make sure it's done right.....I'm sure those phone fix-it places lose a screw here and there and wouldn't care about your $650 investment as much as you do. One note I would stress, although most of the kits for sale come with the mini screw drivers, is to have a couple of decent small tools near by, like a good set of modeling tweezers and a wide x-acto type blade, and a magnifying glass or lupe Thanks for the helpful video, so good that a small 13 year old can do it!

My mum just came up for an ester visit, she said her phone screen was damaged and kept cutting her hands I said I could probably do it (I repair DJI Drones for a living) but I didn't want to get stuck into It if it needed a lot of adhesive removal or anything complicated like the more modern phones. One watch of this and I knew I could handle it!
    Got the parts sorted for when she came up, 30mins later it was repaired and working like a dream.

    2 hours later my repair is done. Here are my tips to those about to embark on this lovely repair:
    1: Patience is key. I threw my screwdriver across the room a few times.
    2: DO NOT DROP THE SCREWS. I relaxed myself by digging around in the carpet looking for these microscopic things.
    3: Buy a decent kit. My phillips screwdriver was not very good.
    4: Get used to his voice. You will be doing alot of pausing and rewinding.
    Hope this helps! Btw, does anyone know what it means if I have a little bit of discoloration at the top of my screen and also when I push my fingers down hard on the screen, it turns purple and then fades away. Is this a problem with the installation or the screen? Thanks for any replies.

    • @haywuzhapnin100
      @haywuzhapnin100 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Seeing discoloration when pressing on it is normal. You'll see this on all other lcd type screens if you accidentally press them. It's just the pixels slightly changing under the pressure. Don't make it a habit of it, it could cause damage

      I stick some blue tape sticky side up on a white sheet of paper and some small magnet pad, to hold my screws but still lost one.
      I had to redo and switch LCD back to an old one, due to home button not working. Now I have ordered a new back plate with flex cable, and will probably try to put a new screen back (thought it was bad earlier).
      Got pretty proficient with the process now after a few trials as this is my 2nd iphone 6 screen replacement.
      Ear piece and camera step is the hardest imo.
      I also had to go out and bought a new screw driver kit from Walmart to replace the poor quality kit that came with a new LCD from ebay. My kid tried to do part of it and she was not happy after the home button stop working. We will try to get it right this time this weekend. Don't try this at night b/c you might go to bad pretty late :)

    Some tips from me. I've made it and everything is working. I've replaced screen, charging port(jack, microphone, charging port) and ear speaker.
    1. Don't mix your screws, especially from metal plate which covers tape from LCD. You will destroy motherboard.
    2. Pentalob opens only two screws outside.
    3. Look at the sequence of tapes. Biggest, smallest, medium
    4. Don't touch left and right side of the screen, you can broke glass inside.
    5. Gently with home button.
    6. Don"t pull off the micro from bracket. Look at the microphone, it's so small.

    This is a nearly perfect guide. It is clear, concise, and the voice instructions match the images well.
    Disconnecting the battery may be well worth two minutes to potentially prevent a short, which may destroy the phone. The battery connector is under a two screw panel on the right about halfway down. The slightly raised side of the panel goes on the left with its longer screw. Also, consider getting a static wrist band for $5.
    KEEP YOUR SCREWS VERY WELL ORGANIZED. Use a large, well-lit work surface, and sort them with an ice cube tray. Almost every singe one is different; any in the wrong hole can destroy the phone.
    Some parts you should use tweezers or a tiny flat spatula to remove or position, but some I found easier to just use my finger, working carefully by feel. As the video says, be particularly careful with the home button and its connector. Examine the one you're taking out closely before and as you remove it, so you know where each bit goes. It's straight-forward, but the parts are tiny, so be patient.
    My own replacement screen had a few stuck-on strips of plastic that needed removing. It also came with the little plastic holders at the top whereas the example in this video did not.
    Be prepared to spend 1-2 hours in total if you're not electronically experienced, which I certainly was not last week. Having done it, I don't think it's nearly as difficult as I imagined it would be at first.

    Embarked on this repair carefully, disconnected the battery first thanks to other people's comments. Everything was going well until I got to the earpiece which, for the life of me, I couldn't remove, felt like it was glued in... So, had to dash to the repair shop, phone in bits and all the screws neatly on the iPhone 6 magnetized mat I'd bought which was great. Got my phone fixed in under an hour for a great price, probably because I'd already bought the correct part and the phone was already taken apart pretty much! First and last time, I'll attempt an iPhone repair on my own. If you're intent upon fixing your phone yourself, I'd recommend having a good backup plan of where to get it fixed asap in case things don't go as planned... Appreciate the quality of the video very much and also watched the one on replacing iPhone 6 batteries to see how to disconnect mine first.

      JerryRigEverything I dont know the 5 line for glass were out around 3 months before the phone lol
      Me and my one boss sold all the glass we bought for around 2 bucks a pop for 5 once the phone was out. We just did not see the point of doing glass only on the 5 line. The parts for lcd assembly were only around 40 on release. Making it non economical to do glass only. Why bother doing glass when you can swap the enitre thing for around 30 more and have a better repair than even if you used loca a separator ect all. You still have a non perfect replacement and when you figure in the cost of the loca per phone your looking at 10 to 12 for glass + loca and likely another buck or 2 for a new frame for the assembly.
      Honestl i always look to sell the customer on a full unit over a glass replacement on iphones.

    This was difficult, but thanks to this video and another, it worked. Firstly, other vids. recommend disconnecting the battery - two screws and pop off the connector. Getting the home button ribbon off was tricky - do use a heat gun to get the connector off (I used a hairdryer). I also got the ribbons in the wrong order when re-assembling and had to do 'video forensics' to work out which order the ribbons overlap each other. Take your time, get in the zone, chill and relax and NO DISTRACTIONS. Expect to take an hour or so. Be really careful with the screws. I used a magnetic mat that came with the replacement glass kit. And finally a magnetic tipped screwdriver makes life so much easier.
    Also be aware, there are 4 models of iPhone sixes: the iPhone 6, 6s, 6 plus and the 6s plus - all the screen replacement models/kits are slightly different - buy carefully!!

If I get it back together I feel sure it will not work. Thanks a lot speedee iPhone man.. Okay,,,,,I am done and it works. I am in shock. Could not have done it without this video. However,,,when jerryrig is removing the ear pieces with the tweezers it changes view and messes me up. Seems like zooming in and slowing down would have helped. And the ribbon wires must be folded in the correct order to lay flat. Easy (for me) to get out of order and confused. Still,,, my phone works!! I have two extra screws if anyone was wondering.

    This guy forgot the most important part. Disconnecting the battery. If you do not disconnect the battery while doing a screen repair, you risk blowing out your phones back light filter/back light circuit, which will be a costly repair, because your phone will then require micro-soldering. It is almost impossible to fix an iPhone in 5 minutes. This video skips though him removing and replacing the screws to make this a 5 minute video. The only way an iPhone can be fix in 5 minutes, is if you have a full screen assembly, requiring you to only have to swap over your Touch ID button to the new screen.

    • @ubreakitirepairit3569
      @ubreakitirepairit3569 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vanessa Maree Your phone will require micro soldering to fix that issue. It's not a repair the average person, or even most shops do. My friends backlight on her phone randomly went out, and come to find out, my local parts supplier guy is actually co-owner of www.shortcirqit.com. They offer mail in/drop off services for the type of repair you need as well as a bunch of other services. I've always been one who's skeptical about about the work of others. After I checked out their website, it seems they really know what they are doing when I comes to repairs. This shop went above and beyond to make sure my friends phone was fixed when having the mentioned issue as well as the front camera not working.

    • @ubreakitirepairit3569
      @ubreakitirepairit3569 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vanessa Maree You can also verify your phone has this issue by looking at the screen under the sun or bright light to see if you can see it. You can also plug the phone into a computer with iTunes and see if the phone is detected.

    Thank you Jerry, I found your video very useful and played it through several times before actually starting to do a screen replacement. I experienced a couple of difficulties installing Earpiece ribbon cable, that you suggested should have been easy. My issue was engaging the Earpiece ribbon, sensor and camera lens in the casing and getting them to sit firmly in position. The ribbon had to be folded exactly in place to allow the earpiece the ‘click’ firmly in position. The next problem I encountered was refitting the LCD cables in their correct order. I hadn’t noticed the top two cables had swapped positions. This meant that they didn’t fit the appropriate layered ’lego’ connection strips in the correct order when I came to connect the screen to the main body of the phone. When I re-installed various components to the new screen I hadn’t noticed a couple of the ribbons had stacked incorrectly. I had photographed each critical stage of the strip down and realised the cables had to be swapped over. The use of force to make the misaligned strips to engage with each other would have damaged the contacts. So it’s very important to get them in the right order. I felt your video skipped over these very important issue. Thanks again

      If you havent figured it out yet.
      there is a small metal bracket around halfway to 2/3 of the way down on the right side. there are two screws on the bracket. you take the bracket off and there is a small connector (you will see it attached to the battery). disconnect it and then reconnect it as the last thing you do -- and then replace the bracket. (under the sim card tray there is a "black rectangular thing" and then under THAT there is a bracket. thats the battery connection to the logic board).

    I took my phone to a repair booth in a mall and it took much longer to get the same thing done on the same model 🤦‍♂️ and it also cost a decent amount of money

    Thanks mate, fixed my non-functioning touch screen in a few minutes......Turns out when I dropped it last the connectors had detached from the logic board and just needed to be clipped back on properly......Legendary video.

    Thanks a lot for this video! This save me a bunch of time, money, and hassle! I didn’t think I had what it took to fix this until I watched your video. Just so you know, that little ribbon loop that you said you weren’t sure what it was for but you thought it was important, it’s not important. I broke it by accident while taking it apart, I cannot see any issues from it yet.

    overall good job, you could slow down and gain better camera angles on some of the small component parts work. otherwise, very helpful

    This took me 24 minutes, but it worked!!! You need to show a bit more detail (close ups) on putting the first ribbon into the new screen, but I figured it out.
