Thanks for the video Phil. My first job was in that factory 😊...But, I've never been on a channel that causes SO many people to moan, about EVERYTHING 😂😂...
"Ive been in the trade for 87 years, and you are all doing it wrong. We used to spit the paint on through a straw blah blah blah "
"I used to be a decorator for 121 years, but got so fed up not being allowed to used testicle-hair brushes. They were the best, not like todays rubbish blah blah blah "
    Whats wrong with people 😂😂

Hamilton green are my go to roller. Tried many others but keep coming back to them. Briliant performance at a sensible price. Also picked up some expression brushes for peanuts. Discontinued but at £2 a pop well wirth a punt. Absolutely great for water based applications 👌

Phill, I was very impressed with the performance of the Hamilton paintbrushes ,when I first started serving my time 1970 at 16 years of age, Hamilton made the best brush. on the market but you would never put a brand new brush into gloss you would use it in undercoat and primer first to break it in, the way forward to me seems to manufacture a brush you can immediately put in to gloss oil based or water based and get the finish and application performance that we professionals have been looking for a long time.

Great video, love the Hamilton range, the cheaper ranges are also cut above all other own brand ones 100% .
A Hamilton rep told me that sales were far stronger in North England/Scotland than the South.
He said range almost sells itself in these areas.
They put this down to older Tradespeople using lots Hamilton range and their apprentices following suit again.

Very informative Phil. Hamilton Perfection products are pretty good imo, but I don’t rate the other ranges for longevity and top class finish. I tried their laying of brush which is only available in the Prestige range, it was awful, no idea how that got to market given what they said about product testing 🤷‍♂️.

Wow went their back in 1989 with west Notts college while doing my advanced placement with CITB did my paper on them and the origin of pure bristles (Chinese pig bristles-due to them being the only natural hair bristles to spilt in to three on the ends naturally-giving a great lay off quality)
Great video factory doesn’t look that much different from back then.
Bit brighter more females on floor and no music playing ❤✅👍

    • @ProfessionalPainterDecorator
      @ProfessionalPainterDecorator  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

how long is a bit of string lol
Presonett and Tourpet both do, fine surface filler and also a powder mix up interior fillers, that would be suitable.
Bigger cracks you may need to open up like normal, you can pre prime with something like Peestop/Gardz, then fill, scrim tape, then foat over with filler a few times.
You CAN also try EasyFill, or if you've seen my video on Multi Fill From Prestonet, the video using it to skim a wall out.. you can use it for skimming cracks too.

Ive only ever used the perfection range. The pure bristle brushes have now changed, much to my disappointment. But, having tried the new brushes, i am REALLY impressed. Firm type in oil are great. I have one grumble though. In my brush mate box the new brushes don't last. Mine are going hard really quickly. Next to the new brushes, i have a pure bristle of the old range. That is still soft, for months now. And in that same time, ive thrown out 2 boxes (5 brushes) of the new firm range. Something is not right. Anyone else having the same problem?

@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator Not an answer to the issue.... I do use water based very often, three quarters of my work. Even though it's more expensive, due to the sticky primer and extra coats, but costumers seem to be ok with that. The issue is a potential compatibility issue with a new range of oil based brushes (designed for the trade) and the trade brush mate box. That was my enquiry.

I have been a decorator for over 40 years now. Im Mr Dulux and always have been. In fact I was one of the first members of the Dulux decorator network. I was always Mr Hamilton until they lost their way and started producing crap to cut costs. My choice of brush and roller is usually determined by the level of finish im aiming to achieve. I would use Hamilton for the trade brushes for house bashing and rentals. They avoided saying it, but those brushes are throw away ones. Hamilton professional are slightly better, however the low bristle count of those brushes means they are not as good as they could be. I live in Cornwall and the full Hamilton range is not available here which is odd. I would expect to walk into a Dulux decorator centre or Brewers and find the full range of Hamilton products. Someone at Hamilton is not doing their job properly. 👍

@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator I'm going to order a few of the prestige brushes. I have two lovely old front doors to paint and they have to look stunning. I have done a lot of work on those houses, neither had been touched in the last twenty years. The front doors are right in your face when you approach the house so it has to look good. My reputation is on the line so Hamilton had better not let me down. If their brushes are not up to standard I will return the brushes to them in person. 👍

@@orvillefindley8117 you saw the new brush demo? What did you think?
Hamilton do that 4" laying off brush too. So you can use their roller on larger areas and lay off.
Do you use any oil conditioner and a touch of dryers in your oil paint for front doors?

@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator I used dryers in my oil based paints during the colder months. I've only ever used solvent based conditioners when I'm painting boats, that's just a hobby really. If you have ever seen the car program pimp my ride, well I do pimp my nautical ride 😂

@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator I watched the demo but obviously it was hard to see the results on video. I once challenged another good painter to a paint off. He was painting a door with a roller because he believed it to be faster. I was using a 2" purdy. I beat him because he had to effectively paint his door twice. He had to roll it and then lay it off. I just brush painted my door once. I really enjoyed the pint he bought with a very satisfying smug look on my face 👍🤗

Are these trade/media days going to continue and will us ordinary painters & decorators be able to go?... it'll be great if they ran them a few times a year.
Its a shame Hamilton sold out to foreign companies and transfered production to china, but I guess that was out of necessity because they had dropped down in the brush market and failed to compete with the new kids on the block in the late eighties.
They have always struggled to produce a top quality synthetic brush that could compete with the likes of purdy, arrowworthy, Corona, Wooster even orange foxes, so lets hope now they have dropped pure bristle brushes they can get a good synthetic out there, they should certainly have the technology knowhow.
Their perfection sleeves are the best out there in my opinion, especially the midi ones..most of the perfection products are very good👍🏽

That's complete BS about swapping knot rings out from papering brushes that have worn out. All 9 rings of bristles wear out fairly evenly with the two end rings of bristles rounding off a little more than the rest. You stick a new knot of bristles in anywhere on the brush and it will stick out a lot further than all the other rings.

    • @ProfessionalPainterDecorator
      @ProfessionalPainterDecorator  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

thing is you/we don't do it, do we/you. Why even buy a knot/ring duster or hanging brush?
Unless you swapp all at the same time just to keep the same handle... or swap the handle out.
I've had the same duster brush 30yrs now, It's had 4 new handles and 9 sets od rings changed.

Oil based paints haven't been at their best since like 2006 then they changed them got a bit worse then after 2010 they aren't really fit for purpose anymore whites are no good colours take about 3 months to fully cure then they aren't as durable as they used to be only firm i know of that make solvent paints that aren't post 2010 is palatine paints colours try properly and whites don't yellow after couple years and are durable also the pure bristles aren't as good they used to be they did something to the boar's

    • @Lloyd1885

Industry changed in china and more people went for crops instead of livestock...certain areas of china produced a better quality bristle from different parts of the wild boar.
Kind of ironic though that the worlds biggest polluter also brought about its own demise as far as pure bristle is concerned, but are now making synthetic brushes for an ex British company.😏
