On "My Car Story" we're at the Carlisle Events in Carlisle PA on 7-9-20.
We're looking at a 1973 Dodge Challenger Rally in Petty Blue Paint. The car comes with the factory 318 CI engine.
The car's Owner is Doug White. Doug’s the Original Owner and purchased it new. He shares he was a Fan of Richard Petty, and his Dad worked at a Dodge Dealer. His Dad called him up from the Dealer, and told him he thinks he has the car for him. He told his Dad he would never sell the car. Doug’s a man of his word, and here the car is today.

Sharp "Petty blue" paint, sporty wheels, and the faux vent treatment on fenders really stand out on this Challenger. I like it a lot. A 318ci will last forever and better yet, keep Mr. Ownsr out of trouble. Thanks guys.

So Kool! I see it has the “Made in USA” export tag! Interesting thing I learned recently about “Petty Blue”. It first appeared on a small run of ‘68 Road Runners. It had a 999 paint code, and was called “Corporate Blue”. Plymouth was contemplating releasing a Richard Petty edition. It didn’t happen. 😀

Ps, interestingly I ordered a 1968 RR, IN GREEN EXT./DELUXE Black INT/4 spd(came with Hurst, not INLAND SHIFTER, we checked)/383/....anyhow,I lost my $200/ DEP AND DECIDED not to buy ( I was in Pharmacy School)....probably would have finished if I had see. A PERRY BLUE ( unless Hemi was Required, to expensive/ gas eater)

Not very many people still have a car they bought new . It's nice to see such a special car still in the original owners care. The color is beautiful and that 318 3spd was a great combo which probably kept the insurance lower.

This video for me is a real through back to 1974 when at 20 years old I ordered a new Dodge Challenger 360 Rallye, I believe in late January of 74'. The dealer said it might not be built because the Challenger is being discontinued, but the order went through as a EW1 White Rallye, pistol grip 4 speed, manual steering, am/fm radio, with no A/C. I was ecstatic when the Challenger arrived the last week in April...it arrived minus the 360 engine logo on the power bulge hood, minus the rallye wheels and the 5 speaker stereo I ordered...but it did have a 2 speaker stereo. I complained to the dealer staff and there response was your lucky it was built at all...but the dealer did give me the Rallye Wheels from another new vehicle..
Kudo's to Doug for keeping his Challenger all these years in pristine shape.

A great example of how many of us can get excited over a car without needing to see huge horsepower under the hood. Wonderful how it's not dressed up with add ons that today would do nothing to add to its appeal. Just as it was, back when it was delivered. Nice owner too!

That's right on. It's a time capsule. When I was a kid I listened to my father, uncles, grandads talk about how they all wished to have never got rid of their 1st cars, so when I got my new 91 Z28 when I was 20, I kept it to this day. I don't regret it, I'm 50 now and I feel 20 everytime I drive it.

My loan was for $3,000.00 after my trade-in, and my payment was $108.00 month for 3 years. I wanted a 360 cu. in., but my dad refused to co-sign for that car as he said I would kill myself in a 360!😕
