On "My Car Story" we're in the Western Suburbs of Chicago IL on 5-18-24.
We're looking at a 1957 Ford Thunderbird in Flame Red Paint.
The car comes with the 312 CI V8 Y-Block engine and an automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is George Hansen. George’s had this car since 2012. George shares as a kid his neighbor had one and would let George help clean it. He shares he fell in love with the car and years later he finally bought one for himself. This one looks like it came right off the showroom floor.
ENJOY!
Hi, If you like this video, please click on SUPER THANKS ❤ with the $ in the middle which is the SUPER THANKS button under the video. Thank you! Lou
I was born in the same year as that T-Bird. Gee, I wish I looked that good today! 😂
Happy to read you and this car share the same birth year.
👍👍
:-)
Love these cars growing up they were one of my favorites thanks Lou and God Bless.
Hi Leroy, Happy to read "Love these cars growing up" :-) You're welcome. Blessings received. God bless you too, Lou
Yep, this '57 T-bird definitely has 'the look'! I always enjoy the 'trunk & treats' too, and it was nice to learn about the hood scoop insert. What a great car, ride, and visit with Mr. Hansen. Thanks, Lou!
Hi TheGunfighter45acp, Happy to read this car has "the look" :-) Fun to share the trunk & treats with you. Glad you're along for the ride. You're welcome, Lou
Lifeguard Design describes the safety features like the door latches and dished steering wheel. Optional were seat belts, padded visors and dash. It also referred to the front-hinged hood in 1957. Unibody construction didn't come along until 1958 in the Thunderbird. To see a '57 T-Bird in action, look at Lucy Hunts Uranium, episode 3 of the Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour. Fred MacMurray drives one and gets stuck in tar. Totally fascinated me when I was a kid.
Hi Jonathan NC, Thanks for sharing the places to see the car "in action". Happy to read "Totally fascinated me when I was a kid." :-) Lou
TRUE On That !
Who doesn't love an old T bird? 🐦
I sure do :-)
They are beautiful to look at, but very uncomfortable for someone who is over 6 feet tall, especially with the top on.
My favorite year of the "baby birds". Had the chance years ago to buy one that needed a little work for $3200. Didn't have the funds then.😕
My wife says I’m an old bird. And I think she loves me! 😂
This video on the iconic 1957 Ford Thunderbird is like going back in time to the Ford dealership showroom. Magnificent beautiful sport design. Impressive engine and fun ride! Thanks for the classic experience and congratulations, Lou, and George. The 1950's was the American car golden era.
Hi Juan, High praise. You're welcome, and my pleasure sharing with you, Lou
The two seat T Birds were the cars of the 50's that represented everything cool about American cars. Ford got everything right. They made it into the Beach Boy's song Fun Fun Fun and that's what you guys were obviously having.
Nice :-)
I love the sound of a Ford Y-block. The 57 T-Bird was so unique. It did not have fenders. The whole exterior skin is 1 piece. It's cool how the exhaust goes thru the hollow frame. It is just an iconic classic car.
Hi Stacy, Happy to read you enjoy the sounds from this car :-) Lou
That is a kind of car you can just stand there and look at.
I agree.
First again! ❤ Love the 57, this is the one from American Graffiti! Porthole window car very iconic and done because of blind spot complaints
WINNER! Happy to read you "Love the 57" :-)
Stunning 57 T-Bird . The red on red is absolutely gorgeous. It sounded so smooth and amazing when that engine roared to life. This classic is absolutely beautiful and looks like it just rolled off the factory line . It looks like a great cruiser and head turner. Simply a beautiful classic. Thanks for sharing!
High praise. My pleasure sharing with you. You're welcome.
Classic T-bird! Beautiful car and a a true icon.
Great Trunk & Treats as always.
Thanks Lou and George!
Hi Jeff, Happy to share this "true icon" (and I agree) with you. You're welcome, Lou
🙋♂️ THANKS LOU, GEORGE …AND I AGREE WITH ALL YOU SAID LOU🤗
You're welcome Budget Audiophile Life-long. My pleasure sharing this car with you.
What a purely gorgeous car. Not only an icon, but also a National Treasure. WOW!
High praise.
TRUE!!
I'm a big T-Bird fan. Love this 1957 T-bird. It is perfection! I agree 1957 was the best year from the 55-57 T-birds. This is simply beautiful in red. Love the engine sound!! Love the brushed aluminum on the dash. So sporty! Thanks so much for the detailed video. You are the best at this.
Hi Brian, Happy to read "Love this 1957 T-bird" :-) My pleasure sharing with you. You're welcome, Lou
Good morning Lou. Eagle Whitefeather here. Have a good day my friend. Love these old Fords.
Hi Eagle Whitefeather, Hope all is well. Happy to share this old ford with you :-) Lou
That is the most beautiful car ever made. Purrfection. Those sleek understated '57 fins were the cat's meow. Amazing restoration.Love this episode.
High praise.
Gorgeous car. Ford really did some great work in the ‘50’s. Restrained by comparison with many contemporaries, Ford largely eschewed huge fins for more elegant styles and they sure knew how to use colour. I’ve always thought of these TBirds as 1950’s version of the Mustang , al either with 2 seats. Not a wrong line on this ( in common either the original Mustang).
Hi Ashley, Happy to read you enjoy this "Gorgeous car" :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Wow!!!’n reminds me of the TV series Vegas with Robert Urich
Nice :-)
I don't think it's the original spare tire. There were no date codes on pre 1966 tires. Great car! It's one of my "bucket list" cars! Babe some day.....
Hi Rick, Thanks for sharing. Happy to read you enjoy this "Great car!" :-) Hope you're behind the wheel of the right one for you soon, Lou
Very nice T-Bird covertible. Beautiful car. Thanks Lou!

Nice car Lou, another winner. Runs smoothly.
Hi Scott, Happy to read "another winner" :-) Lou
Best of the baby birds!
NICE!
🙋♂️ MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE… In the 60s, our neighbor was a FORD DEALER AND EVERY TIME WE SAW IT 🤗😎
One time his wife took my buddy and I for a ride ,A THRILL OF A LIFETIME FOR US 🤗😎💚💚💚
What a GREAT memory.
@@loucostabile VERY TRUE ‼️
I FORGOT TO MENTION,IT WAS BLACK ON BLACK 😁
Very nice T-bird. I agree with you Lou about 4 door versions, but I do like the 4 doors. I think that they should have had both 2 and 4 door Thunderbirds throughout the 4 door years.
"I think that they should have had both 2 and 4 door Thunderbirds throughout the 4 door years." That's a good idea.
I have this as a model, love the video Lou and George -thanks!
Hi Floyd, Happy to read you have a model of one like this :-) NICE! You're welcome, Lou
They sure make them like that anymore very clean and nice
Hi Larry, Happy to read you enjoy this "very clean" car :-) Lou
Absolutely beautiful 😍😍😍😍😍 Thanks Lou!
Hi motorTranz, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) You're welcome, Lou
Lou, thank you very much for showing this popular 1957 Ford Thunderbird. You have preserved a little history by doing this. Aritificial Intelligence states: "Overall, while there were exceptions, 4-door models were generally more expensive than 2-door models in the 1950s due to their larger size, enhanced comfort, and broader market appeal."
Hi Jed, You're welcome. My pleasure sharing with you. Lou
Love the "Birds" Lou! George loves them also..i can tell! My first job at a Sunoco gas station at age 18, my boss had a 57' T-Bird..it had a built 312 y block that he raced at Pittsburgh Int'l Raceway..It was painted in a lime green metalflake paint..I remember the the lettered script on the face of the trunk.."The Bird is the word" I will never forget it! Thnx Lou!
Hi David, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Boss @ the Sunoco stations car :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou
Beautiful Thunderbird Lou. I had often wondering how sales would have went if they had kept building them as 2 seaters in 1958 though I love the 58 through 60 model designs as well. I used to wonder if many people traded their 53 through 55 Corvettes in on new Thunderbirds? Have you ever done a video on a F code 57 Thunderbird? I think that they supposedly only built about 200 of those.
HI PlymouthDuster225, Enjoy the F Code :-) th-cam.com/video/-Mn8e0jvMbo/w-d-xo.html
My mother looked at buying one of those used in the mid 60s in a turquoise color. Ended up buying a 65' Barracuda with a 6 banger.
Soooo close....
Дійсно, незрівнянний дизайн! Мені цей автомобіль більше подобається, ніж чотиримісний! Дякую!
Hi Сергій, High praise for the design of this car :-) You're welcome, Lou
Love the “growl” of the starter motor at 4:56. My folks had a ‘59 Ford Galaxie 500 when I was a kid and it sounded exactly the same!
Hi OldRustySteele, Happy to read you enjoy the "growl" of this car :-) Glad to read this car brings back memories of your folks car. Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
55-57 and 64-66 are the Prettiest and classiest T-Birds ever made...FACT!!!
Hi Nicky, Thanks for sharing, Lou
The date code should be embossed on the spare tire. I’ve always been very fond of the baby birds 55-57 after that not as much. Kudos to the owner. 👍👍
Hi Czech Mate, Thanks for sharing your knowledge on the date codes on the tire. Happy to read you've been fond of this years car. Lou
What a beautiful looking car, it is one of my favorite early Ford Thunderbird car!
Hi ACatal2, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Me too, Lou
The Lifeguard Design sticker refers to the rotary style, positive door locks, the deep dish, collapsible steering wheel and the padded dash board and visors. The car should also have left the factory with seat belts.
Hi Daniel, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge. Lou
Hey, how tall are you and what do you think maximum height is to drive this car comfortably?
Hey Kogucik, I'm 5 foot 10 inches. Seems I'm about the right height for this car. I'd see if you can find one at a car show and ask the Owner if you can sit in it. When the "hardtop" is on, I have to duck a bit to see outside of the car. Hope that helps, Lou
Lifeguard Design just safety features like seatbelts, padded dash etc.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
George has so many amazing Cars...this is a true icon. Thanks Lou.
Hi CJ Design, Happy to read you enjoy this "true icon" :-) You're welcome, Lou
Lucky you got to drive it
A real privilege.
Like you said the 57 T Bird it was like they just got it right sweet car❤
:-)
Great car, Lou!!
Happy to read you enjoy this one Tom!
How beautiful this 1957 Ford Thunderbird looked, in the middle of a sunny day, with that intense "Flame Red"! An elegant design, with that auxiliary air intake on its curved hood, along with its two headlights, the large front grille and its striking "Thunderbird" logos in various sections of the vehicle, in addition to its soft rear fins inclined to end in the beautiful round turbine-type lights (a special mention for the beautiful chrome-spoke wheels, along with the large white stripes on the wheels). Very attractive interior, almost entirely red, except for certain parts, such as the instrument panel and steering wheel in laminate and chrome. Interesting objects in the trunk; such as the original spare tire, the removable metal piece of the hood air intake, or the full-color brochure of its time. Smooth and relaxing final route; It can be seen that it is a docile and easy to drive vehicle... Congratulations to Mr. Hansen, for having fulfilled a dream of approximately 40 years, and preserving it in an exquisite way! Best regards, Lou!
Hi Jaime, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Please, let me make sure you write a book, as you can share what you say in writing VERY WELL. My pleasure reading your comments, and glad to share with you, Lou
Haha, thank you very much, Lou! But beauty is reflected in any way, be it in visual content, as you do, or in writing! Kind regards, from a distance!
This & a 1962 T-Birds Were My Father's Dream Cars. May He R.I.P..
Your Father had great taste in cars :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing.
@@loucostabile 1962 When I was 5 yrs. old He Got Me a Footlong Toy One & He Got One Too. (smile)
In October of 2015, I had a dream come true when I acquired my own TORCH red with white top 1957 Ford Thunderbird. Named her DESTINY! She is a "dead ringer" for this beauty, right doen to the spoked rims.
Enjoyed George's story, as it patallels closely with mine.
HI Gary, Congratulations on "Destiny" :-) Lou
Love the 1955-57 Ford Thunderbird 2-seater sports cars. Some purists say this is not a real sports car, by European definition, but I say this car embodies what a real sports car is, regardless if it doesn't have a stick shift. This was easily Ford's answer to Harley Earl's 1953-57 Chevrolet Corvette. I love it!
"I love it!" NICE!
The 67 T-bird was my favorite Thunderbird and one I wanted to own! My neighbor had a 56 that I got to ride in. But comparing the three two-seater models. The 55 had the trunk filled with a spare tire, no room for luggage or groceries. To fix that, the 56 got a continental hit. In 57, they worked out the body design better put the spare back in the trunk and fit it in there so it didn't take away luggage space. They got rid of the silly continental kit. So in terms of Thunderbirds, I rank them as follows 1.) 57 2.) 66 3.)65 4.) 63, then there is the rest that I really didn't have much interest in. Thanks for a great video!
Hi Daniel, Happy to read this is your # 1 Thunderbird :-) You're welcome, Lou
Just wondering where the water went in that hood scoop when it rained? I see they offered a hood scoop shield, which is all I see that would keep water off your engine. Also, how adjustable were the front seats? Ford designers so need to look at their classic cars like this, and tell us why they can't produce great looking cars like this anymore?
T-bird remains a household brand name icon, that should still attract buyers, if the car bears it's classic style, and doesn't cost more than what most buyers can afford. I would go so far as to say that two T-birds should be offered, a two seater, and a larger full sized Bird to fill the empty full sized car market today.
Hi Tom, If water gets through the hood scoop, there seems to be a "gutter" drainage on the air cleaner where the water will go out a tub past the engine block to the ground. Front seats are not very adjustable. Thanks for viewing and sharing, Lou
Hi DL, Happy to share "America in the 50s and 60s was a dream for us Europeans." with you. Hope you see MANY more cars on this Channel you enjoy, Lou

The style & posture of the 57 really set this Bird apart from the rest of the 50’s T birds.

Has this car been modified in any way? The data plate on the firewall reads 1 for the Transmission code, which would indicate a three-speed manual, but clearly, this is an automatic. I've also noticed that this particular car won an award at MCACN in 2022, which is a bit confusing. If it were something off about it, it probably wouldn't have gotten the distinction.
HI Răzvan, Not aware of any modifications, Lou
Gr8 video! Beautiful car! Lou, you mentioned that the ‘57 T-bird is in your top 10. What is your top 10?
