I went to Vegas for the first weekend of March Madness and absolutely killed it at Lee’s Discount Liquor. KC18, Frey Ranch SB, Rare Character Exceptional Series 10 yr, Old Forester SBBS, and a John J Bowman, all at very reasonable prices. Took a nearly empty suitcase just so I could bring bottles home.

I know it is tough passing on great bottles. But the ones you were able to get are bottles I've been looking for. I think that's what makes them special and a treasure when you do actually find them.

We love a good deal too, just picked up two bottles KC 120 Single Barrel at the local pharmacy on clearance for 27 each.

Passing on wonderful bottles were hard at first but now that I have been doing more often, it's not too bad . It's like pain tolerance 😂.
But I know how fortunate I am to be able to get the bottles I do get so I'll be thankful for that and enjoy every drop 🙏.

That’s why I have a cap on what I’m willing to spend on alcohol. And I don’t have FOMO. I’ve been drinking for a very long time over 40 years and I’ve seen the whiskey market go up and down. In the late seventies I was a George Dickel and Wild Turkey guy when I was in the service. Then the eighties were a lean time and I made the mistake of drinking Canadian whiskey for a short time cause it was cheap and available in the nineties some good juice was coming out and I had the opportunity to drink some great bourbon and whisky. But honestly from there it has gotten crazy up to this point. Now not only is there crazy prices but because of the secondary market people go crazy over anything someone gives a good review on. I now stay in my lane and keep my selection to what I can get and afford. And I’m drinking some great juice knob creek Russell wild turkey. You do a great job on your reviews I enjoy watching and the fact you let everyone know what you’re paying and where you get them from. Continued success. Enjoy!!

Unfortunately, most people do not have your experience, knowledge, and the perspective that you do as many have been enjoying whiskeys for not too long and many things they want to try is allocated.
It is unfortunate and the reality of today's market. And with people becoming less patient with the world we live in, FOMO will always be a big factor to the whiskey buyer and the distilleries (and distributors & liquor stores obviously).
There are some great whiskeys sitting on the shelf and I should do a better job of promoting those.

What I scored in March. 2 different McCarthy’s 6 year American single malts, Benriach 16 year, Compass Box Peat Monster Cask Strength, M&H Apex Dead Sea, Col EH Taylor Small Batch. I went ham on Scotch and other whisky in March.

Excellent haul David The Barrell Foundation is a wonderful bottle, and so is the Seagrass. Wow! $98 for the 12 year JD, that is fantastic. I finally found a bunch of 1792 the SB, BiB, and 12 year. Also picked up the new wheater from Redwood Empire. Cheers!

David, it's interesting! I recommend you have a sample before you drop $80 on this bottle. The mashbill contains 4% malt and you definitely notice it the more you sip it. I have only had two small pours over the last two days. Both times I had the impression I was having a blend of a light single malt and a wheated bourbon.

Nice haul! I have a Magnus #237 and it’s great! My store friend is getting me the Booker’s at his cost 72.00 so can’t pass:) The EC A124 is really nice! JD 10yr so nice! JD 12yr yeah!

Dave. You are right we cant buy them all. I've definitely been more picky and frugal on my bourbon buys. I think they either need to be amazing, not over 150ish. I've definitely been enjoying some good everyday bourbons now, plus what ever i have. Chees brother!

Wow, $68 for ECBP is a gr8 get. In Phoenix they are $75+. Mom and pop stores want $80+. Price matching wouldn't work out here. Next month be on the look out for the B batches. Cheers

Great bottles David. I bottle killed Joseph Magnus Cigar Blend batch 93 last year. Have batches 181 and 189 in reserve. Would love a RR Rickhouse Camp Nelson F. I think Camp Nelson B is coming out this year. I am too embarrassed to list my March haul. FOMO. 🥃

So I passed on the Camp Nelson C as those didn't get the glowing reviews of CNF.. so I'll probably stay on the fence on CNB until I see some reviews. I can't take a chance on what will be a $350+ bottle 😆.

I would have a tough time passing in the Michter’s 10yr Rye.
Not a fan of Amburana either and passed in the Rio several times the last two weeks. I did help a few others get a bottle.
Cracks the Springfield Batch last night with a few friends from my local whiskey club and normally we just have small sips from many bottles but we had over 1/2 the bottle and I picked up a 2nd bottles this morning. It has a sweet nose and palate is peanuts and cherry. A slightly different Booker’s taste but very good. I rarely get a 2nd bottle of Booker’s even if good. Wish I had bought a 2nd Pinkie’s Batch. But they are $90 plus tax here.
Props for you for not extending yourself and buying a bottle when you are low on whiskey funds.
I got a JMCB for 184 and really like it but it’s a lot of money and not sure if I will be replacing it anytime soon.
Barrel makes great stuff. Bought both those last month and Foundation is very good. Haven’t cracked the Dovetail yet. Be interested in your take on it. I know I have said it before but love their Grey Label Seagrass. Nothing like the regular Seagrass which is also very good and always on the bar.
Hey John! With your endorsement, I'll be looking for that Springfield batch but without the need the ship 😆. My local Ralph's had the 23-04 batch for 78 so I'm hoping to find it there soon 😆.

I just tried Elijah Craig Toasted and it blew my socks off amazing finish.. for a 60ish dollars it is a buy.. but it is ALLOCATED in VA..
its even at my costco under 50..😂.
Hey Mike! That EC toasted is a good one and unfortunately it is allocated in some areas 😢. In California, it is readily available now but it was not easy to find until mid 2023. Hopefully allocation will improve for VA very soon 😆.

I picked up an old Forrester 1924, a 13 colony 15th Anniversary, EH Taylor small batch, 1792 BIB store pick, Russells reserve pick, and an ECBP A124. All for your right around MSRP. I passed on a Four Gate and a Weller full proof store pick. Too expensive.

Dang, Jack10 and 12? Good stuff! My haul for the month is the Knob Creek pick by Hi Proof. I really enjoy one of the KC picks that I got last year and it rivals with ECBP/Stagg. I also did the KC/Steak rebate thing but not sure when I'll get it haha.
it just took 5 days on me to get rebates . 54-20= 34, its a steal,, their storepick is awesome (little spicy, but one drop of water solved it)

Solid haul and fantastic prices. I haven't seen any Barrel Foundation at all around big chain stores around Houston. What is your travel radius when you're out hunting?
My range in hunting is around a 20 mile circle with about 4 stores I go to on a weekend morning. Maybe a total wine or two once or twice a week on my way home after work 😆.
Barrell foundation just started showing up in our Total Wine & More so hopefully you'll see it soon in yours.
I should do a review on it very soon so I'll let you know how good it is 😉.

Hey Kei! WT12 is more available than you thank in Korea, but it really depends on where you stay. If you're in the seoul area, I would visit "bottle bunker" at seoul station and lotte world 2 or "wine & more" around yangjae station (they have many stores).
I found the best prices at local liquor stores or grocery stores (E-mart, etc.), but you'll need to go to a big one to find it.
Good luck and have fun during your trip! Food &drinks are delicious and cheap 😋.

Blanton’s for $65!?! Wow. By me at retail they are $82. Also I second the relationship building although it can get expensive. Total wine price matching is very iffy in my area. They already price real low. It’s now a thing of you’re in a mom n pop store and they’re at or below total wine pricing buy it.

I hope Barrell references Wild Turkey's exemplary pricing policy in Korea. Wild Turkey's strong presence in Korea is largely thanks to its affordable prices.
I hope they take notes and price accordingly 😆. Only problem with Korea is they base taxes based on proof and I don't know how wild turkey is able to bypass it. We'll see very soon!

@@WhiskeyBank In Korea, the tax on spirits is, regardless of the spirit's proof, applied based on the transfer price of the import. For example, if there's a bourbon priced at $30 and another at $60, their price difference is $30. However, imagine the sales tax is 150%, and their prices would jump to $75 and $150, respectively, widening the price gap to $75. This is what happens with bourbon prices in Korea. Thus, a bourbon with a $20 MSRP in the US might sell for 40,000 KRW in Korea, while ECBP priced at $70 MSRP can go up to 300,000 KRW. In such a system, lowering the transfer price would significantly reduce the market price. The speculation is that Wild Turkey's Korean distributor might have secured a very low transfer price somehow (likely by promising to purchase in bulk?).
@@yeejunghun Wow, I knew there was a large tax, but didn't know it was that much. Let's hope Barrell does some research and doesn't price it above 200,000 won as that seems to be the breaking point. Hopefully it's 150,000 won or less 😆.
