I can 100% agree that vacation mode kills your shop! I was moving, I put it on vacation mode while moving. I went from 8-15 sales a week, to 1 sale a month. I have STRUGGLED to get my shop back! Do NOT use vacation mode. Change your shipping times and make a shop announcement explaining why! Vacation mode is a killer!

I just extend the processing time and slowly lower it as the days pass till I get back. I do quite well. Of course I get stressed out knowing I’ve got a lot of work waiting for me when I get home.

      Hey Nik
I'm plugging away Implementing your strategies from our recent call.
Question re this video, what about the advice as to not use collage style format for primary thumbnail listing as it ' confuses sellers what is actually for sale'?
Surely this cannot be beneficial to anyone as sellers use collages to sell bundle offerings and this is clearly stated as such on their main listing.

I’m in Canada and I’m literally turning my sticker shop into a digital pattern shop because shipping time and money is killing my business. I can’t deal with it anymore. The US is constantly getting upgrades and perks and it makes all of us outside of the US take major hits. So I’m just not playing anymore. Digital is the only way from here on out.

Thanks for this important info! I can completely understand how the new shipping rule will be a problem for many shops. For me, it's actually an advantage. I sell jewelry, and my shipping cost is usually not more than $4. It's not right to penalize shops for charging what the post office charges for shipping.

Hi, I just wanted to say I`m so glad I have found your channel. You have lots of useful information. I opened my Etsy shop this year around June, July(can`t remember exactly when)and started with about 5 items and only had about 10 for a long time. Since I listened to your advice I have been trying to add 1 listing every day and now I have 31 so far. I still have days when I have zero views which is very upsetting but I carry on trying to add listings every day. I only made 6 sales so far but I guess it is not so bad considering how little views I get. By the way I`m in the UK. I make crystal trees which are all different and unique. I will do my first ever craft fair (3 in total) from mid November and I wanted to take some of my stock from my Etsy shop. My idea was to put my Etsy store in holiday mode on those days just in case I would sell a tree which would sell at the craft fair too. Now finding out that would make my listings fall back is eye opening. How about if I just put them in inactive mode for the day. Would that have the same effect on the listing score? Any advice on this? Thank you,

Hi! Just wanted to give you some cred! I started a store in july. Now have 145 items, loads of views and visits with 5 sales. Been following your advice and yesterday i copied some of the listings i first published and renovated them before deleting the original one. Took about 2 hours and one of them sold. I sell tshirts and mugs and only have unique designs. If it isnt working I can "copy" existing items but prefer to be a leader even if its more difficult. Thank you som much! Br Andreas

On the shipping costs, I did my own test with sweatshirts. Actual cost to ship is over $8, but I found that $6.99 worked best for charging shipping to the customer. I'm annoyed by Etsy trying to control cost of shipping when it's really out of our control. Yes, you can increase your price, but still. It's worse on items that have high shipping costs due to size or weight and trying to add that to the cost of the item. You may not be competitive in price for that item any longer. Thanks for all the information that you provide.

I look at the $6 or under shipping prices in two ways: (1)As a consumer, it's a way for Etsy to bring in more customers and have them want to spend more without having to worry about the high shipping prices. (2) As a seller, I can also see where this may be a problem because some sellers don't offer free shipping because either they can't afford to or it takes away from their profits. Plus, being a newer Print On Demand seller, it can limit the kind of products you may want to sell in your shop.

    • @etsyconsultant

I followed your advice from mid-May up to end of July to add 1x listing/day to my store to reach a 100 listings and all your other advices like leave social media platforms alone for 30 days and see what happens..... Previously I abandoned my store for over 18 months due to pressing life issues.... I left just 9x listings there to keep my shop open. Now have over 120 lisings and am very pleased to report that I have made 2 sales✨ My views and visits have increased heaps!

I'm in the U.S. and I already offer free shipping. It's built into the cost of my products, so getting a boost for that would be a good thing for me. That being said, I can definitely see the frustration for those of us who charge. If I were to offer something that wouldn't be cost effective for me to ship free, this would definitely feel like a slap in the face.

I would love to see a more specific video for European based stores, with ad hoc advises, it is mostly spoken about USA, although many of us are based Europe, we have very high shippings costs towards towards USa, example: a hard envelope a4 < 500 gr towards USA- NY costs around 23/27 euro..

This video was helpful, and true, ultimately these changes likely won't make a huge difference just another way for etsy to dangle a carrot in front of us. It would be nice if they gave actual data that impacts our visibility. So many of us have experienced random drops in sales after having a long period of consistent sales and when this happens it can be jarring but what sucks worst is usually not being able to find any information on why it happened to begin with. The data they provide needs to be able to address that, so that we may understand what is happening. Even if the change is a change with their algorithm, they need to be forth coming and share that information with us.

    • @etsyconsultant
      @etsyconsultant  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Agreed. When it comes to data, Etsy is a master of giving without giving.

@etsyconsultant alot of legit handmade sellers are dealing with etsy taking down their best seller listings. Without any option to appeal. On the Etsy forums I'm seeing hundreds of sellers coming on, more every single day who are having their posts deleted or closed out by mods without resolution. The sellers affected have thousands of orders and have been selling on etsy for years with star seller status. We really need as many people as possible to talk about this issue because it is unfair. Etsy is messing with people's livelihood.

do you think etsy looks at your store's overall conversion rate (or conversion rate averages?)
as a factor for ranking or increasing visibility?
to clairfy i'm not talking about individually listing, but the overall store conversion rate for longer time periods (maybe 1 year or past 30 days etc)
would be interested to know your opinion
one of the reason I'm asking is because when I turn on ads I feel like there's a dip in organic sales -
also what is your thoughts about etsy looking at views/ to click ratio? the reason i ask this question is because when i turn ads on, i feel
as though i get less organic sales - after some thinking - i figured when turning ON etsy ads - my views increase dramatically - and this may leads to a lower "VIEW / TO CLICK ratio "
    hope that all makes sense

I agree Etsy is trying again the same BS with the shipping. I don’t have time for this at the beginning of Q4 no less? And.. we can’t see what our shipping totals are!! When will they get that fixed? It’s been too long. Stop trying to come up with new stuff when you haven’t fixed the old stuff! Prioritize for goodness sake! I don’t believe for a second that a shop will rank better with $6 shipping. I have many customers who don’t care how much it costs to ship. Thank you for reminding me that it won’t make a difference!

Speaking of Vacation Mode, I never planned on using it, but I do have a vacation coming up and have questions. And all of this is hinging on whether I can find someone I trust to stay on top of my shop.
If I have “Custom or Personalized” listings, should I just hide or deactivate those listings while I’m away?
Does the “Auto-Reply” feature work in this case to keep my Message response score at my current 100%?
And lastly, should I set my (PoD) store to automatically send orders to production and hope that there are no issues?
Where I’m going I will have no internet service and these are some pretty big concerns I have.

Hi there, thanks for your comment. For POD items there shouldn't be any issues, however you can set up an automatic message to let customers know you are in a remote location and there may be a delay in contacting them for any questions/issues. I updated almost all of my listings (I'm at 110 as of now following your advice all summer of listing one or two a day) and adjusted my prices accordingly. I'm a vintage seller and shipping kills me almost every time Shipping across country can double the shipping fees on some items and it's impossible to build that into the price of small, giftable items. I constantly look at what other stores that sell similar items to mine are charging and while some offer free or low shipping and have tons of sales, others offer crazy shipping amounts yet still have the sales. I've come to the conclusion that nothing about Etsy makes sense - I'm basically in this now because I started it ( I have been on Etsy since 2009 but for many years didn't really push my items) and at this point have accumulated a large inventory and I need to keep going but doing this day after day to make only a couple sales a week is becoming a soul sucking experience. I'm interested to see now if changing my shipping as Esty suggests increases my sales to where I go up in visibility and eventually, I can adjust shipping back to where I'm not losing money on it.

Hello hello… just wanted to say and ask a quick question. You mentioned in your Etsy shipping guarantee was a failure and it started in 2019. Then you said they removed it, but I still see it in my shop. is something that I should turn off? I don’t offer free shipping, but my prices are very reasonable. I sell prints and make about 30 to 35 sales per week. But of course I do have free shipping guarantee and I’m wondering if it’s necessary.

I read the new $6.00 shipping or below this morning and just laughed! I tried this business of raising my prices to include shipping last year and the pressure is on in the "race to the bottom" for wreath sellers. My costs vary from $25.00 to $50.00 to ship a single item. I'm not going to eat this on my slim profit margin!

    • @kerim.peardon5551
      @kerim.peardon5551 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Yeah, you would think they wouldn't apply that rule to people who sell bulky items, like furniture or framed art. Why not just apply it to small items like t-shirts, personal care products, and jewelry?
It's as broad as it is long. I bake my shipping prices into the price just for the psychological effect of "free shipping." Even when I go to buy stuff for myself, I get turned off if the S&H is too high. And I never buy if the shipping is more expensive than the product. It's just disheartening to go to checkout and watch the price jump because of taxes and shipping. Suddenly it no longer looks like a deal.
But I'd probably pay the same amount if it had "free" shipping. Lol. I guess it's because I have already come to terms with the price before putting it in my cart. It's the surprise at the end that hits.
But I think people are more forgiving to craftspeople than Amazon. You'll eat more charges when it's something unique or a special gift.

Hi Nick, could you or someone else here give me their opinion on this shipping nightmare. I just don't feel right about being coerced into this $6 shipping. I tried the free shipping back in the day and it did nothing for me. One of the things I've heard is that it does not apply to those using calculated shipping. So should I just switch all my listing to calculated?
And what happened to flat rate shipping??? Flat rate worked perfect for me, I could use usps provided flat rate envelopes and everything I sold would fit into one of the sized of flat rate envelopes and I never had to worry. It was always the cheapest for me. I guess you may not be aware of this being in Australia but the shipping has turned into a nightmare for me. My saved flat rate profile changed to the new usps ground advantage so I now need to buy shipping packaging, and ground advantage is slower than flat rate. However when I change my save profile to priority, it does not give me the option to use usps priority shipping envelopes, but when I click on purchase shipping label and use the saved profile is shows flat rate envelopes, but I can't use priority label on a flat rate envelope. Can you see me puling my hair out?

The shipping idea that Etsy says they are implementing is no different than when they said we would get visibility if we offered free shipping last time. That didn’t work because not everyone that offers low shipping or free shipping can make on to the first few pages because there are too many stores that offer free shipping so how are they going to guarantee we have boosted visibility? Plus it’s not even legal to add the shipping cost into the cost of the item even though sellers do. This will be a complete fail just like last time. The customer service thing is just like the rules for star seller and that was a mess because half the time I would get a message that I hadn’t answered a customer but I had so they would take my badge away. So that whole thing is stupid. I had all 5 star reviews prior to the star seller program so that program is a joke.

Jesus I’m struggling with Etsy so much at the moment. I’m in the Netherlands and I have a vintage Etsy shop. I’ve recently tried to switch to free shipping but because I had to add around 40-50 eur to each listing to cover shipping to the US, my shop stats dropped too much and 3 sales in a month, when I used to do 13-15 or more. It was just too expensive for people to see, comparing to seeing the item and agreeing with the shipping cost at checkout. Somehow, psychologically, that made a huge difference. It also messed up the algorithm and I returned the paid shipping and dropped the prices to how it was before. Waiting for it to come back to life, but because for 2 months I had so little sales, I’m afraid I won’t rank at all now. This was my main income.. I’m having to pay the Etsy ads bill cause my sales didn’t even cover it.
