To see Mike Dawes get soooooo hyped about Tyler's bend/tap/bend thing during All along the Watchtower was the most wholesome thing. Absolutely made my day!
We need more podcasts for musicians like this. Every musician podcast now seems to just get in to stories of gigs or whatever else. No one hardly plays, jams, or gets in to the nerdy musical nitty gritty on music podcasts. Thank you for this. I hope you have more guest in this format.
Mike Dawes is so great to listen to, both musically and vocally. I love how he spends so much time on details. I listen to his songs at work all the time
oh my goodness. Dancing in a burning room was absolutely gorgeous. He is amazing. I do like to hear him playing with space due to playing with someone else. I think he enjoys it to, feeding off the other guy
A very quick and brief name drop of Michael Hedges. Funny how as I listened to Dawes explain some processes, and I instantly thought of Hedges - then he drops the name. Simply amazing that Hedges has been gone for 27 years, yet still has influence on today's most cutting edge and creative musicians. Hedges would have been 70 this year. He would be absolutely blown away with Dawes' improvements and ideas. Will definitely be checking out some Galactic Acid. Thanks Tyler ♥
Mike's 4 guitar pickups really add to the fullness of his sound. Especially the robust sound of his open chords. I am pleased to find that he is fully cognizant of the possible noise his complex setup can produce. Like the "zing" sound. In many interviews, the guitarists leave their voice microphone on while they play, so extra noises like the zing are more pronounced, but odd for those of us who are only familiar with just the internal pickups from their recordings.
Excellent interview, thanks. Mike takes the acoustic guitar to a whole new and otherworldly level. Made me realize just how much more there is for me to learn. I feel like I've been sent back to kindergarten acoustic guitar class.
Tyler, your talent has always been undeniable, but you can tell when you're interviewing someone that you have become very comfortable doing so. Glad that Mike had the time to spare and share with you. Take care!
Everyone needs to Google Mike's cover of "Someone I used to know". Absolutely mind blowing mastery of the acoustic guitar. The thousands of hours of practice it must have taken...
Saw mike daws when he was on tour with ichika (he also gave signed merch away!) felt like i was at a comedy show with an amazing guitar backing track. 11/10 would go again
That last jam was the prettiest thing I’ve heard in a long time and I just listened to A Sad Cartoon by Loathe a little bit ago. Yall killed it, being able to play with someone else like that is the main goal and hearing people make stuff like that on the fly really motivates me
One of the best videos I've watched in a while. This was two mates chatting and jamming, very relaxed and entertaining. Looking forward to seeing Mike in Winchester UK next year.
I have exactly the same shirt! Dreaming In A Blue World! 1990 Surfing With The Alien tour! I did a meet'n'greet with Joe on the Shockwave Supernova tour which I took 2nd place in the tour poster contest for! I waited until I was the last guy in line to get my axe signed, I asked Joe "what year?" while pointing at the shirt. He gets this big smile on and tells me the whole story. So Marvel had signed off on the album cover for Surfing, no problem. When they hit the road Marvel issued a cease & desist for the merch, Joe said if they'd paid for the rights it would have busted the tour, so instead they opted to stop selling the red and silver Surfing shirts and go with the next album's title instead, only Flying In A Blue Dream had many working titles and nobody was quite sure which one would end up on the album cover, we know now that they guessed wrong! Great video guys!!! 🔥
Love MD. His playing and skills are on the next level. Love to see a collaboration with MD and Nathaniel Murphy from Chicago Music Exchange. Both awesome players.
@@weets69 I also love Nathaniel's playing, whether it's his fingerstyle covers or him playing with a group and shredding it up. He's just a really great player.
Saw him live with Tommy Emmanuel last year. Incredible night of guitar music. And a heck of a nice guy, got to talk for a few minutes at the merch table between sets. The live CD is great by the way.
Okay, this was one of my favorite Mike Dawes interviews ever! Tyler and Mike jamming together was magical! You guys need to do a project together! BTW Berklee grad 1981 and singer-songwriter here, proud to see Berklee grads doing great things!! Keep up the amazing work Tyler!!
Holy shit ... Mike mentioning Jon Gomm unlocked a core memory from like 20 years ago XD Jon Gomm, Hey Child. Guitar drifting, smooth solo, great vocals ... and then some random Joe Satriani inspired inspired shredding with the perfect amount of overdrive and effects. If you haven't heard it, or if its been over a decade like it was for myself, GO HAVE A LISTEN!!! Quite literally one of the best tunes ever written/played. Side note ... if you could get Jon Gomm in for an interview that would be amazing. Great content as always Tyler, thanks for keeping the guitar nerds entertained :)
The substance given in this video is unmatched. What a sit down. Mike is so good at simply explaining the process even though the technique is astro physics. The stuff at 19:00 prime example. Such a treat to watch.
ok at the beginning yall showed the funnest part of dicking around on guitars with your bros: "hey isnt that the same thing as this other song? lets play them both at the same time!"
Mike is such an amazing musician. I love what he brings to the guitar world. The music is very complex just because he is able to do it all himself. Even as a filthy bass player, I can appreciate the technicalities and intricacies of his compositions and covers. To me his music is just ear candy. Thank you both for doing this video. I love hearing the thoughts of musicians I admire and respect. A lot of good take-aways here.
I enjoyed all the technical discussions. Very interesting and educational. The thought processes for doing certain things. The jamming definitely was my favorite however. It was so much fun listening and watching you two having fun . It sounded great. I found myself vibing and smiling as you both played. I liked the format. Loose and fun.
I watch all your videos to the end and I’m so glad that I did again. You showed Hendrix. You showed most abundantly Vye in there era of whitesnake. I would be a miss if I didn’t recognize Satriani …. All hail Dawes!!!!!
Saw Mike, playing with Justin Hayward at the Birchmere....VA. He plays in Justin's band doing Moody Blues music. He does his own set as well. Go see him live...incredible player. And...got to talk with him before the show...super nice guy!
You both need to do a version of All Along the Watchtower in studio and video. WOW!! That was amazing, the mix of the electric with the finger-style acoustic was unreal!! \m/
Yeah, he's great -- would love to hear some of his stuff on an electric though. If he's that amazing on acoustic, well, he has to be epic on an electric too.

Mike Dawes playing "Euclid" is the best thing ever. Literally brought tears to my eyes. Intensely beautiful.

i can help with that
I'd totally buy an album of you 2 just sitting around jammin cause the last 3 minutes of this video was simply amazing! Bravo fellas, Bravo
This guy is frickin amazing. The way he has 2 pickups and 2 mics all wound up in one guitar is phenomenal.
What I notice is how comfortable Mike is with playing rhythm. Doesn't "need" to be lead.
Mike Dawes is so great to listen to, both musically and vocally. I love how he spends so much time on details. I listen to his songs at work all the time
Is his guitar's wood being worn away or is it a pick guard to make some of the sounds be makes by taking his fingers on the upper bout? Anyone?

Stumped for words in the best way. That's when the goose bumps took over. The two of you bouncing off of each is amazing. (hint, hint)
