    Very informative, I really appreciate that you both show what your doing in each step and how you explain in a manner that anyone could understand the different tricks/hacks/methods for which one can complete such tasks especially useful when things get a bit difficult I appreciate how you explain alternative methods to solve such problems and illustrate the materials and tools necessary to get it done when inevitable difficulties may arise. Thank you, you've earned another subscriber.

    Thanks a lot for making this video! It was really helpful with my problem. The CD wouldn't eject. It was hitting the inside of the plastic bezel. It turns out that a worker forgot to put one of those blue rubber damper feet on the drive. So it was sitting too low. Luckily, the blue damper was sitting right there on the floor of the case, so I just put it on properly and now it works perfectly! Thirteen screws and the problem is solved. Thanks again!

    Best clock radio I ever owned. Some Bose stuff may be over rated, but this radio unit is amazing and worth every penny. The only negative I have for it is the mandatory remote control to operate the clock alarm etc. Nothing wakes you up faster than cursing/searching for the remote you knocked off the nightstand that bounced under the bed when you just wanted to hit snooze. Nice transformer in them too BTW.

    I just bought this same model and it exhibited the same behavior - buzzing in right channel and speaker pushed out continuously. I went to Digi-Key online and ordered the part and just finished putting it in today and VOILA! The sound comes from both speakers now. It was a carbon copy of this video. Thank you 12voltvids! I would not have known how to fix mine.

    I found a Bose Wave AWRCC5 someone had dumped. I decided to upgrade all the capacitors and power amp. I found your video very informative, especially on how to remove the TDA7376B. I devised a way of removing the screw holding the heatsink. I cut a slot in the (threaded end) of it using a dremmel cut-off disk, then simply used a flat blade screwdriver to screw it clockwise which is anti-clockwise from the head end.

    • @krish8216
      @krish8216 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The same way I did by cutting a slot on threaded end of the screw holding the heat sink ,but unfortunately the one half of the threaded end of the screw holding heat sink broke when I was screwing it clockwise with a flat screw driver. I don't know how to remove the screw holding the heat sink.

    40 seconds into it and I watch your Channel all day long!
    I'm going to take a guess and say capacitor possibly?
    But I'll kick back now, eat some food and enjoy the show!
    Maybe learn something new😆👍
    * Edited after video*
    I'm happy to see that I was wrong!
    I was thinking since you could still hear music in the background, it wasn't the amplifier, possibly a capacitor in the power supply,? but then you showed the speaker popping out & wow that did not look right!
    I got to learn something new again from you today Dave. thank you!
    And thank you for that tip about everything goes into the Box for later, so you don't lose anything!
    You definitely need one of those fancy desoldering guns.
    I would like to get one for myself.

    Great video! , , I have the same unit . At first I was able to pare it with several laptops and cell phones. Then over time it lost it's ability to connect to any of them , , I'm guessing that the various software updates on these devices may be the issue , , Any experience with this issue? , , any advice would be appreciated.

      Many changes for sure. I am just kicking back listening to my stereo right now. It has 4 12ax7 and 4 el34 tubes in it and my speakers are the size of a small car. There is really nothing like the sound of really big speakers and a good clean vacuum tube amp. Sound like the musicians are in the room. With me. Don't get me wrong the small systems sound good, but none hold a candle to a pair of speakers with 14" woofers . A big speaker doesn't have to work very hard to move a huge mass of air and my amp is probably putting out perhaps a watt or 2 and filling the entire room.

    I have a Bose cd3000 and it hums slightly when off. I wonder if it’s the transformer, capacitor or amp chip on the power board. The hum does go away once the unit is turned on. Also the dc input from the power Case works fine. It’s just when it connected with an AC line and off that it hums.

    The back of the sound dock speaker drivers, which are identical, say 1 cent. That seems impossible. Do you have any idea what else the cent symbol, (c with a line through it) would mean?

    Great video. I have a problem with the infrared receiver inside bose music AWRCC 7 system. Because I have 2 such radios that support the same remote control, the fault is in the receiver. In place of the Q6500 I have an IR receiver with 4 pins below 3 holes on the display board soldered. what is the symbol of this IR receiver and how to replace it. On the print side it is as if soldered into one hole, which is connected to two of the three holes under the Q6500. Please advise what to do in this case. I can send photos of the tile, but I don't know how. Best regards and good health, Jerzy

    Thanks for a great video. I just picked up a new Wave SoundTouch Music System IV, and can report this unit is now being "Made in Mexico". As this is their latest and greatest Wave Radio, it doesn't auger well for continued assembly in the U.S.A.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +smsstuart What a surprize! Just like everything else these days. I am sure the quality will show. I know the 321 system I serviced the subwoofer / power supply was made in Mexico, but the head end, that is the amplifier / DVD player was made in USA, but the actual DVD drive was from Taiwan, and that was where the problem was, a broken plastic gear. Blackberry used to make their phones in Canada, and finish them off in Mexico, but that too has now shifted to China.

    Hi, I have a lifestyle 5 model 614810, everything works perfectly, but
    little by little did you lose the tuning of the radio? Will I have to
    adjust something inside? Or could it be that I have to replace a chip, I
    only have a small cable for the antenna, but before that it was heard
    without problem, now nothing is heard, only the noise as if they were
    not broadcasting on radio stations.

    I just found one of these at a local thrift store for USD $6.99. Thank you Goodwill :) No remote though, so off to fleabay for that. It likely is a BTL amp which is basically two amp outputs driven out of phase connected to each terminal of a speaker. It's a common way of getting a good amount of power into a speaker from a low power supply voltage such as 12 volts, often used in car stereos. BTL is "bridged tied load". In a 12 volt system, there is about 6 volts DC on each of the speaker terminals, so you don't want to connect any of the speaker terminals to "ground".

  • @jmcgatkinson
    @jmcgatkinson 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    A very comprehensive presentation. For the compact unit these wave radios are, it gives a very good sound, and no other manufacturer than 'Bose' makes them. I see the audio power IC is made by ST Microelectronics, and being for car radio applications, would be for some time available for replacement. According to data sheets, the 'bridge' configuration allows power output of 4 times that of one terminal speaker grounded, capacitor coupled, on older designs. Another feature is the very low noise (ripple rejection) from the power supply, as the amplifiers are identical, only driven anti-phase for the speaker - and speaker +.

    • @Inflec
      @Inflec 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Something that the batteries are tied into has developed high leakage. If you were to connect a multimeter set to read milliamps in series with one of the battery lines into the set, you will probably see a drain of a few ma. The current taken from such memory backup should be virtually zero. Unfortunately, tracking down the source of this drain will involve disconnecting one side of each component connected to the batteries and rechecking the current draw until you disconnect something that causes a big drop in the reading, probably a capacitor or an i.c. Do not overlook the possibility of corrosion on the p.c.b., which can create a leakage path producing this problem.

    I was given a Bose wave 1 that didnt work. Opened it up and none of the components were kabeled. I caled Bose to get a schematic. The guy told me that theyee fix it for $99 turn key. Then he asked me to hold on please. He came back and asked me to read the serial number back again. So i did and he asked me to hold again. He told me that the radio i had was actually one of the first product runs and his manager wanted it that he would trade me for a new wave II. I said ok. With just my word that id mail it back to them, a few days later, sure enough a new wave II radio came in thevmail with a return label. Absolutely love my Bose.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Interesting. It would have been a USA made unit and he probably wanted it for that reason. Perhaps for a display, or advertising or perhaps the manager just wanted it for his collection and sending you a sample would just be a write off to get a classic and probably rare piece.

    I used to save the great base speakers from the Boombox radio whenever it has a bad shape plastic cabinet or it is not working anymore like for example my 2001 RCA Boombox radio RCD110B that are made in China, I do recycle them by save the spare parts and the speakers so that I can use the speakers as an external speakers by make a wood cabinet for example, to make a nice sound quality.
    Not to mentioned that JBL used to make a good quality speakers here two since it has a large magnet on the voice coil.
    I do love the products that are made in USA. =)

    At the beginning of the video I'm sure I was thinking the exact same thing you were. A bad filter capacitor on the power supply. Then as soon as I saw that one channel pushing the sub outwards I'm sure we both thought the exact same thing. Guess great minds think alike..lol

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Ryan96se The DC on the speaker was a dead giveaway.This unit uses a bi-amplified output.For those unfamiliar with this, it is an old trick that started in the car radio industry.On a conventional amplifier, your negative speaker terminal is grounded. If your power supply uses a split 12 volt supply, with +12 and -12v, the swing on a class AB amplifier single ended output could be -12 to +12 v peak with respect to ground.With a bi amplified amplifier there are 2 amplifiers operating, one in running in inverted waveform. In other words as 1 amplifier is headed positive, the other one is heading negative with a mirror image signal.These 2 outputs are fed to the + and - speaker terminals respectively.Now you have a 24 volt swing, where the negative terminal is swinging down to -12 and the positive up to +12. Double the voltage, same current same power input. That almost doubles the wattage.It makes for relatively efficient amplifiers, be it at the expense of distortion, but it allows more power without having to use a higher voltage power supply. IN this case one of the outputs shorted to full DC voltage, but the other half of the output was still working, so that is why there was still audio present on that noisy channel.

    That's a really cool fault. Now what's the proper way to test a short on an IC like this if you wanted to go about doing this? I read you're supposed to test continuity between the ground pin and the other pins and see if there are shorts, but idk if this is actually true.

  • @fv538
    @fv538 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello. I'm an amateur, currently working on one as per family request. The faulty unit produces loud intermittent pops and crackles. Sometimes there is speaker audio output (FM/AM, CD etc.), sometimes there isn't. Gently messing and wiggling wires, connectors or heatsink has no effect in forcing the problem. Have not checked 3.5mm OUT yet. I suspect it may be that TDA7376B, but given the current electronics availability (lead time of ±50weeks on the TDA7376B, for example), what would be a good starting point for further analysis and ruling things out? Visual checks indicate no blown caps, there appear to be no speaker wire faults and no faulty power chord. Bose repair is about 140$, where they most likely just replace the mainboard instead of repairing/replacing a (what is likely to be) cheap sub-$10 component.
    I have managed to find the large troubleshooting guide including lots of information and diagrams. Unfortunately it discusses the mk1, mk2 and mk3 in one document and not much can be found one the mk1 in terms of troubleshooting this particular issue.
    Thank you in advance.

      Update: The unit has been tested on signal throughput. A 1K Ohm frequency was set on the AUX IN, and measured with an oscilloscope. Unfortunately, the signal was no longer detectable before it reached the HCF4052 chips. It is likely that there may be a fault in one of those. Or perhaps still the TDA7376B? Any thoughts?

      @fv538 ปีที่แล้ว

      Update: replacing the TDA7376B did not solve the issue. The device boots up properly and all input types work, just no sound coming out.

    Hello 12voltvids,my Bose Wave AWCRR3 is only working when it is warmed up. When I disconnect the radio from the power supply for 1 minute and turn it on again the radio goes on, I can see the clock and swich to menue, but I can't swich to FM/ AM, cd or AUX. When I warm it up, everything works fine. I very much hope that you have a solution for this problem.

      Sure sounds like a cap that is going bad somewhere. You need an ESR meter to measure to find the one that is going bad as there will likely not be any physical indicators.

      Some companies try to sell headphones for $50k haha bose highest is $400 hard to define overpriced in audio bose dont post wattage for a reason because most of the masses doesnt know 100 watt and a 1000 watt system can sound the exact same and have the same power its efficiency most people really in to audio would know a 100 watt system can smoke an inefficient 1000 watt system anyday

    12voltvids I have the AW-1 which I believe is the original (much larger) Wave radio/cassette unit. Was wonderful for many years.
    The sound is now intermittent and intermittent between channels. For the most part the bass is non/existent UNTIL after warming up when there is a loud popping sound which sometimes means the output will be normal for a while.
    The cassette mechanical is fine but the output is the same as the radio output; temperamental. I would be interested in having it repaired = all Bose offered was a similar radio for 499. (!) They do not repair these anymore.
    12voltvids Can you assist me in getting it repaired? TIA! Id send it to ya? Or?

      You'l need the service manual and schematics to know that, and those aren't very easy to find.
      Also, if it was run on twice the voltage, likely there'll be a few other blown components as well.

    Do you know if replacement speakers are available for these? I have one and it's 10 years old (owned it since new) and the right speaker sounds blown (has that "blown speaker sound"). I'd like to go ahead and do the repair if they sell the speaker.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Vincent D I don't know if they have a replacement available but for sure you can get the speaker re-coned. I had that done to my pair of Altec Lansing speakers. Pretty much every big city has a speaker shop where they do nothing but recone speakers. Usually for musicians that blow them cranking their amplifier to 12!They can rewind the voice coil no problem. I dealt with a shop in Vancouver, and he gets speakers sent in from all over the place. Does lots for movie theatres where they blow their speakers all the time running sound tracks too loud. Showed me one where the cone actually caught fire they drove it so hard!

      Very helpful, i had the same problem, i just recapped the board. It worked . But that amp was a FET amp, not an Amp IC like this one . But now I know what to do with my car radio

    • @djijspeakerguy4628
      @djijspeakerguy4628 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most people won’t recone any speaker smaller than 8 or so inches. No parts are available. However, these drivers are common. They were also used in both the original and v2 sound dock. Bose cubes and companion 2 speakers never used the exact same drivers, but the drivers in those are actually the same size.

    Hi 12voltvids , my parents brought down their BOSE WAVE MUSIC SYSTEM 3, ref: AWRCC3. Now it seems to have reader's concern CD. Indeed CD player have difficulty in being correctly read.
    Of what do you think that he can involve? The CD module can be replaced ?
    For my part, I unsettled the device to reset the position of the lens which seemed to be blocked.
    Thank you in advance for your help.
    Regard

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Densetsu ERAUSQUIN If the CD isn't being read it could be a couple of things. The spindle motor may be worn out of the optical pickup bad. If it was used in a smoking environment then the optical block internal optics could have smoke film accumulating on the optics and blocking the laser beam. Of course check the lens for dust.

    I only recently learnt this Wave radio/CD series has been discontinued only months ago, per Bose retail/showroom staff......
    This is ridiculous. A great form of A/V hardware configuration that has served many for decades only to be deprecated in present day due to the shift in modern A/V lifestyle and such. Very, very sad indeed......

    My Bose radio (AWRC-1G) turns off on it’s own when I’m listening to the radio or CD.
    The clock remains lit, albeit dimmed, and as soon as I press the PRESET buttons for my saved stations or the CD button, it immediately starts up again for an erratic period. May be 20 seconds or 20 minutes.
    Above also occurs when I’m CERTAIN all alarm settings are OFF.
    Any easy and affordable, DIY ideas?
    Thanks in advance!
