I lived in Florida 10 years. I NEVER used electronics there. The sound is more of a liability than an asset in shallow grass. It alerts fish to your presence. In Florida, just flip a junebug worm!
Unfortunately you need electronics now because fishing is a million times harder than back in these days. The pressure on most waters is unreal, and the fish have adapted. Having electronics really help.
I still use a lot of rods and reels from the mid 80's to mid 90's. They still get the job done. I also have a lot of modern gear. I catch about the same amount of fish no matter what I use.
Back around 1973, there was a set of gears you could add to your ambassador 5000C to go up around 6:1. Also beef up the crank handle. A spool of fluorescence Stren monofilament and a Lew’s pistol grip 5 1/2 foot pole. You were in heaven. Those ambassadors cost from $48-55 dollars back then. The Lew’s pole was $35. It was expensive.
Yeah, and a 6’ rod is normal and a 7’ rod is considered long. My shortest casting rod is 6’6” and I’ll sometimes use it for throwing spooks. But most of my rods are 7 to 8 feet and I even have a few over 8’ with 9’ being my longest. And my slowest reel is an old shimano curado that is 5.3-1 and it feels soooo slow😂😂😂
@@af4od02, you're telling your age! I had plenty of those old Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 5000's; the Lew's Laser rod, too! That was before 'LEWS'; it was 'Lew Childre and Sons'. I had the BB-1N and BB-1NG reels; GREAT reels. I also had all the Team Diawa Signature Series stuff (circa 1992). The George Cochran 5'6" topwater rod, the 6'6" Larry Nixon Worm/Jig rod, the 7' Ricky Clunn (fiberglass) Crankbait rod, the (telescopic) 6'10" Guido Hibdon Finesse Spinning rod, and the 7'6" Denny Brauer Flipping Stick. The Team Diawa reel was the 1st 6.4:1 (high speed!) reel. I also had the Quantum System reels. The 6.6:1 Rippin', the 4.4:1 Flippin', and the 3.8:1 (UGH!) Crankin'. I also had a couple of SHIMANO/LEW'S Bantam 10X SG reels. Those reels were the result of a collaboration between an old Alabama redneck and the Japanese that had features that made it the predecessor to all modern baitcasters. Everyone knows the Zara Spook's big fish reputation, but Larry mentions the 'Crazy Shad'. You can still find an el cheapo Pradco version of this in $2 Walmart bargain bins. This is a SUPER, overlooked topwater lure... Old TWO DOLLAR! As far as line, Trilene XL is great for open water topwaters like Rapalas, Rogues, Spooks, Pop-Rs, and Crazy Shad but I prefer GLISS for buzzbaits, floating plastics, rats, frogs, and swimjigs; anything in cover. Another overlooked, underfished topwater is the Swamp Frog, by itself, with about a 1/0 straight shank worm hook cast into grass, MAN! I don't like the loss of KNOT STRENGTH of the loop knot; I use Berkley Cross-Loc Snaps on poppers, jerkbaits, spooks, Rapalas, Rogues, etc.
I think they are fine for finding ledges and grass and stuff but the LiveScope and Mega Down Imaging and side imaging has gotten a little ridiculous. This video was mostly fishing stumps in shallow water…electronics aren’t going to help much with that type of fishing.
Bass fishing is the best my favourite is striped bass but bass in general are just a crazy fish too catch the way they strike is super exciting I do my own TH-cam as well except I am only 13 my goal is too engage our next generation into fishing 🎣 but your videos are better then mine your editing is just next level awesome 😎
Wish you could find the old school crankbait video shows huge bass that hit it an spit it out an guy never felt them hit it very old video was great though
@@chadadkins8738 Yes, my go to as well. One of my top '' search baits ''. Even if they just roll or slap at it without mouthing it, it reveals their location for me to really finesse them with something slower.
@@jerrylanglois7892 agreed always throw a 1/4 ounce lazer eye and change up taking the skirt off and putting have a piece of slogo on the back or twin tail grub...threw the years also got a lot of faith in a trick worm if they missed it...

Is it just me. But it feels like some fishing tournaments should be without the technology to show you were fish are.
