According to the Robinson Maintenance Manual for the R22 Series : 2.820 Lightning Strike Lightning strikes are extremely rare for helicopters operating in VFR conditions " High voltage that is well conducted through the aircraft structure will dissipate and cause minimal damage. High voltage that is not well conducted through the aircraft structure can result in excessive heat, which can bake, burn, char, or even melt certain materials. Heat damage may or may not be detectable by visual inspection. "
Look up the ASK-21 glider that was struck by lightning in the UK. Composite structures without metal runs built in don't fare so well with large amounts of energy introduced suddenly.
This is a very interesting and well explained video. I can’t wait to see what type of comments you get. I’m hoping to see some from pilots who have experienced lightening strikes, or close calls, as that information would be a great learning opportunity. ❤

Great stuff! Haha I'm writing a report on this and you made it very interesting 🤔🙂
Interesting subject. Fantastic presentation. Keep up the great work!
Thank you kindly!
I wouldn't want to be in the convective clouds associated with the thunderstorms though so landing like you did seemed like the smartest move :)

General question: do you need a college degree to make a living flying?
Nope!
Do you mean aluminum? Aircraft are made of aliuminum.
Man!
