On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
If you prefer more up close and personal dogfights consider the IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battle series and experience intense WWII aerial combat over famous battlefields such as Stalingrad, Moscow, Rhineland and Normandy. Fight in and against Russian, American, German, British warbirds such as the P-51 Mustang, P-47 Thunderbolt, Bf-109, FW-190, Spitfire, Hurricane and rugged IL-2 Sturmovik attack plane. You can also fly legendary SPADS, Fokkers and Camels in WWI dogfights over the trenches of WWI and discover your inner Red Baron! And all of this can be experienced in jaw dropping virtual reality!

Not only is the F-22 post-stall maneuverable. It gives its opponents post-stall maneuverability as well lol.
I love the alternative merge in this one. It'd be cool to see alternative merges that play to the strengths of one craft or even out the fight!
Personally id like to see an all against all 3 side merge where 3 fighters try to be the only one flying at the end. Nobodys done it as far as i can see
It's actually more realistic to what they do in 1 v 1 training, while transiting to a location. It masks what they are doing on the radar scope for civilian controllers. They get a little separation and call fights on and then scissor and roll around each other in a safety bubble. It is what they did way back in the day when command leading up to and the early days of Vietnam banned BFM training altogether. Those that wanted to practice dogfighting had to do it in secret and why the attrition was so high from 1965-68. Top Gun was created just for that reason, to re-legitimize the "knife fight in a closet" skillsets.

They are very cool and highly revered. I've spoken with pilots who were assigned to A10s, F16s, F15s and there is definitely a hierarchy. Only the best of the best got assigned to things like the F15C or F22, and I mean like the Navy Seals of pilots in the academy. I remember F15 pilots referring to F16s pejoratively as "lawn darts."
If the F-22 has to tilt the missile down out of the weapons bay that kind of makes sense why the f-15 was able to get a lock when the F-22 wasn't.

I'm not sure that would affect getting a lock on the target so much as it would the delay between firing and the missile coming off the rail.
@@truthseeker9454 Sidewinders aren't lock on after launch I don't think. So the bay has to be open for the missile to lock at all. There's maybe a little delay when selecting the weapon, but time from button press to missile launch should be identical because the bay doors are already open.
@@Orphican Assuming that the sidewinders are in the side bays the missile would struggle seeing "up" to some degree. Both because of the missile IR sensor gimbal limit and because of the F-22 airframe in the way.
@@stug77 9xes are LOAL coupled to the aircrafts radar so that they work from weapon bays, they can lock perpendicular to launch angle

I think the flight model for the Python is broken a bit but that was ENORMOUSLY entertaining to watch!
I mean, you could try chaff+flare against Python 5s, but the electro-optical guidance in those things make them impossible to dodge unless they are blinded by some really high power source
Chaff and flare don't work against python 5, hiding in the sun might help a bit

Are you going to do dogfights with the F15E when it comes out? I'd be interested to see how it performs compared to the C model especially SFM vs PFM
Theoretically, F-15E in dogfight should perform slightly worse than F-15C because of the combination of heavier weight (and thus higher wing loading), and slightly higher drag because of the Fast Packs (with all those bomb pylons) and two-seater canopy. It has more thrust but I don't think that can entirely compensate the weight increase (but I have not done the math, I apologize). But overall we are more or less at the same level. Avionics make the difference here - improved F-15C with APG-63(v)3 AESA radar are far more optimized. Different story for the F-15EX that has a completely new fly-by-wire system, coupled - I think - with relaxed stability, that should compensate all those drawbacks and indeed improve the dogfight performances in comparison with legacy F-15C.

C was updated to PFM a while back
It does suffer degraded BFM performance due to extra weight and drag of the CFTs. However most F15Es are upgraded with the APG-82 which is essentially the APG-63v3 but with additional air to ground modes etc. The APG-82 is pretty much the best radar in any fighter right now.
Take the CFTs off an E model with 229s and its a fucking rocketship. And would likely compare very favorably to a C-model. But the E holds 9800lbs more gas thanks to those CFTs. And can carry an imperial FckTon of bombs.

elbit has a much better DASH with ability to lock from any angle. unfortunetly we dont have it in DCS.
That was fun. I'd like to see what max range for getting a lock or whether you can outrun the missile if it is fired at extreme range and such.

Looks like they modeled the LOAL mode. Lock on after launch. Seeker imagining ignores any heat source that doesn't mirror aircraft exhaust spectrum. AIM-9X has the same.

It does not have a TVC. It relies on a very complex aerodynamic configuration with 18 surfaces.
Its an entertaining weapon model, but I think its unrealistically OP, in the sense that I doubt the real missile could manage these ufo maneuvers
It is the best shot at attempting to simulate the Python's LOAL capability irl. We dont have LOAL modelled in game so they purposely made it follow you around to simulate that

Python-5 has the highest number of control surfaces of any air to air missile. Perhaps that gives it the ability to make those incredible maneuvers
