First time I saw him was in a stadium in Miami, Florida. I was 15 years old in 1963. He blew my mind the energy electricity he had.3 drummers on stage and what a sound, what a band and show. He was way ahead of his time and still is. Now he is gone but never forgotten

James brown , ray Charles , and many more were definitely gifted individuals that were making music way ahead of it's time and struggled against the record industry who's greed allowed them to get rich of other people's talent. That pisses me off , because those same parasites ran the record companies right up to today . James wanted his own record company, but back then it was a different time and thats really sad .

Years ago, JB was on David Letterman. After the monologue and other sketches, JB was the first guest and performed a song with Paul and the band (who were just in heaven performing with this legend.) Dave broke for a commercial and when he returned, he said JB wanted to perform another song. JB kept coming back to give more. Dave had to bump all his planned guests for the evening (but what could he do?). JB was fired up, had Paul and the boys rocking under his musical direction and had the audience literally on their feet dancing. There is a video on YT of that Late Night show. Much worth watching. Shows you why he is an iconic entertainer and without doubt the hardest working man in show business.

The funky drummer himself, Clyde Stubblefield.
James Brown had the baddest drummers around. This particular drummer was the late Mr. Clyde Stubblefield. Funkiest drummer ever.
James Brown also had drummers Melvin Parker and Jabo Starks in his band, who were excellent in their own right.
These guys (especially Clyde Stubblefield) essentially invented funk music with James Brown, and their beats pretty much became the spine of hip-hop.
Thus why James Brown would promote his drummers with drum solos and segue their solos with, "Give the drummer some!"
James knew his band had the baddest beats on the planet.

Im 65 now. When I was a kid in Atlanta we saw him often in the old Atlanta Auditorium. I'm a white guy and my pal and I would gather a dozen other kids and lift the side "delivery" door up a foot high and scurry under and run from the ushers. It was worth the trouble. The Flames were hot, baby. Hahaha. We'd dance in the aisles. Rest in Peace, James.

His show was the same as the 1962 Album and we knew every word. He did add Prisoner of Love which was fabulous. I don't think there is anything that compares to that today. Clyde Austin Stubblefield (April 18, 1943 - February 18, 2017) was an American drummer best known for his work with James Brown. A self-taught musician, he was influenced by the sound of natural rhythms around him. His drum patterns on Brown's recordings are considered funk standards. He recorded and toured with Brown for six years and settled in Madison, Wisconsin, where he was a staple of the local music scene. Often uncredited, samples of his drum patterns were heavily used in hip-hop music.

I'd take back every concert I ever attended, sorry Dylan, just to be able to witness him once more. Alas, that can never happen. Decades after seeing him, I can still feel the thrill in my heart at being only steps away from him as he worked his incomparable magic for two to three hour sets.
