I agree, blades is the best, it's fast to use and has all you necessary places, easy to navigate. There was no reason to completely overhaul the dashboard 3 times, I guess it was so the dashboard could still fit with Microsoft's image but at that point just keep the blades and redesign them
As a kid growing up my father was a software engineer and didn’t allow this kind of technology in the house but my godparents had the latest and I remember as a kid spending the summer nights with them and letting me play the Xbox and Xbox 360 only game I was allowed to play was Starwars BF2 for my age some of the best memories thanks Xbox.
I recently picked up a red ringed launch 360 for like $10 that I actually got working for a little bit to find out that it has this same dashboard. Even though it's no NXE or Blades, it was really cool to see this again
The one I got red ring fixed was a late 2007 unit... which of all things ran Blades. Strange to find Blades on there, especially on a Falcon based unit, but a pleasant surprise nonetheless.
@@PinchedCake6 I'm sure I can probably get it running again. Last time I tried using it, it was actually working funny enough. Got to play through the entirety of NieR Gestalt on it
This was the dashboard I was remembering when I got my Trinity about 14ish years ago. I thought it had an NXE dashboard, but it was this one that I was remembering.
This dashboard has aged like fine wine and still looks modern compared to metro. Honestly they should have kept this interface, it's all the great features and benefits from NXE but with a more modern refresh and (dare I say it) better kinect integration. After all, that's what it was designed around and it was genius. Metro downgraded the kinect integration and overall the windows 8 asthetic just doesn't work on a console or a computer.
The good old times of playing games by moving with the sensor system brings back the childhood memories of people playing dance and exercise stuff on Xbox 360 Kinect
This is how I remember first seeing my slim after unboxing it. Recently, the memories came back, and the metro seemed so lifeless, so I plan to RGH 3.0 another Trinity and revert to the NXE Kinect Dash. I also have a normal NXE Falcon, but I'm going to go for the full on versatile experience lol.
I think in terms of fitting design, this is where the dashboards peaked. I like blades but by the time the slims were coming to market that design just didn't really fit the new consoles. Looking back I'd take this over Metro since in my opinion NXE was where the actual UI peaked (and these two are literally the same thing, kinect just looks nicer) but I could just be biased cause I grew up on a Jasper Premium running NXE right before they replaced it lol
This is my favourite out of the dashboards! Sadly I never got to actually see any of the dashboards before the 2012 metro dashboard outside of TH-cam videos. Really nice of you to upload the dashboard saga as I like to call it!
Really cool to see you cover all the 360 dashboards that Microsoft made for the 360, does show how many changes the 360 went through during its lifetime
I remember my first experience with this dash. I had just come home from a trip to the hairdresser’s, hair still wet and what not, ready to go out again when it had dried and I booted up my Xbox to find THIS. At the time, I hadn’t kept up to date with what they were going to change with the dash from the OG NXE and I was so confused. I hated it originally but over time, it grew on me. Then they had to go and change it to the trashy tile dash that the 360 still has to this day.
Seeing the "Kinect Hub" makes it so clear why Microsoft switched to the Metro Dash. What an isolating and disjointed way of interacting with the 360's most popular accessory. Still, Metro could've had a bit more flair.
it feels weird to watch something you never even got to experience properly. I think i only ever got to use this dashboard (and the older Pre-Metro NXE) once. The only ones I remember pretty well are the 2011-2012 dashboards.
The Kinect Hub kinda blew my mind. I actually had no idea that was a thing. I thought Kinect just allowed you to navigate around the normal dashboard like in the current Metro dash. The animations and what not are pretty cool too. Seems like you really needed a Kinect sensor for this dashboard to really show what it could do, otherwise it's just NXE but way more boring.
I'd argue to say this is the BEST Dashboard Microsoft ever made for the 360. I sometimes wish that Microsoft could bring this back instead of the BareBones looking one we have now (after marketplace shut down on Jul 29th).
