- On todays episode I FINALLY installed my brand new BUILT 350ci Chevy V8 that should make 350 HP and 400 lb-ft of torque?!?! This test drive is going to be a blast. (The OG engine only had 260 HP FYI). Now that the engine is running and driving well, it's time to start filming some great slalom water skiing, bare footing, and surfing videos. Thanks for watching!
Welcome to Makin Motor Moves! My name is Ben and this is a channel based around all things boat and yacht restoration related. I work full time in the marine industry and when I'm not at work, I'm currently restoring my one of a kind 1992 Sea Ray 380 Sun Sport. This is my 12th boat project! From $100 boats to 60 year old relics, I started small and worked my way up. Despite my best judgement, I buy boats that need A LOT of work and fix them up myself. I grew up boating at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri, went to school to become an engineer, worked at John Deere for 5 years, and then decided to give it all up to pursue my dream to work in the recreational boat industry. Now having since moved to the Chesapeake Bay area, my mission is to share with the world my love and passion for mechanics and wrenching through my marine projects all while teaching you how to enjoy boats on a budget. I hope you Like these videos and please don't forget to Subscribe! Cheers, Makin Motor Moves.
Great Job Ben and a sweet looking Ski boat too...have fun...!! I'm Steve from Ohio BTW
Not repairing the OG captains chair is crime! that pattern is so cool! Amazon chair is lame! but i do love the ending shots of you cruising on the lake.
Hey now, I still have it. Amazon chair is temporary… until I get the time to have it redone!
I bet your neighbors are loving you.
Awesome video! Great channel! Can’t believe that you “only” have 7k subs… hidden jewel; way to go 👍🏽
I'll be honest. My last custom built boat which was a Triple pontoon. I wanted to build myself cuz I wanted to have a bit of a different layout then normal and i wanted a longer boat and for it to be a inboard outboard setup. I ended up finding this company that sells the pontoons in fit together pieces made of a special polymer that's like a light color and they have several to choose from. But what's really cool is that you can put lighting inside the toons themselves and they light up and I've never seen anyone else have it. And I get so many comments on it. The other thing I did was on the front each pontoon has thrusters so that I can turn on a dime if needed. And then on either side of the main engine are two electric motors that actually go inside the toons and thru the back that can be ran together or one at a time and believe me sometimes it's nice not listening to my ridiculously loud olds 454 that's cammed out and supercharged around 850hp and yes it drinks at idle about 2 gallons an hour. I've never tested it above 70mph because it gets super squirrelly but still handles good. I imagine that I can easily hit 100mph which is saying alot for a 28 foot pontoon. That's also got a swim platform and secondary helm on the second floor. I also decided to try the new fencing design that isnt steel but ultralight aluminum frames with polished acrylic panels that are black and depending on how you want it the acrylic can fade to not be see thru or to allow the lights in. I wanted from the mid seating which are double wide couches with backrests to the rear end minus 2.5 feet so you still have a rear platform to fish off of or to get to the ladder for the secondary platform. I also have an enclosed bathroom with running sink and toilet.
My point being this. A ton of folks do ls swaps for their boats but it's so boring. Honestly I'm in the works of building a 1950 to 1960s old mahogany style chris craft. But with something that's much lighter and having a teak deck and floor. But to power it. I want to run twin rotary engines from the newest style rx8s. You can really put a ton of power thru them sometimes up to 1000hp they are indestructible and they want to be revving easily between 8 and 10k. So they would work great. I know they did a version of these for jet engines but I wanna do prop driven. We shall see. I really wish more people built custom boats. One day I'd like to build my dream houseboat using these custom pontoons. There really is no cheaper options. And living on the water is where me my wife and two boys want to be
I think 350 horsepower from a bone stock Chevy 350 with a cam is pretty optimistic especially with marine headers on it. I think 275 would be a more reasonable number.
You’re killing it dude keep up the good work
Love the video. Just picked up an 01 outback you that’s got a cracked block. Seems pretty straight forward of a swap. Thanks for taking the time to make the video.
I'm finishing up an old Nautique restoration and am installing the engine this week. Slept about three hours last night. It's pretty easy watching videos about it.
Nice boat🤘😎🤘
You did a nice job bud!
The shaft seal should have a slight drip otherwise it will overheat. There are newer styles that are dripless. You should probably change the packing inside anyway and get the drip rate set correctly.
I thought they are supposed to drip while in gear but not drip when not in gear
Great video
Sounds SOooo Good! Nice Ride!
Hey man. Cool build for sure and love what you’re doing.
My concern with your engine is the use of automotive parts which is a huge issue for ya if you were stopped and checked by authorities. Massive fines for that. Additionally, marine engines don’t use HEI with vacuum advance.
I get that the parts are less money but there are major differences between auto and marine parts. Other than that, good stuff. If ya have questions I’m happy to help.
Be safe and have fun!
The MEMS is the computer that does those warning lights on the dash
definitely needs a thermostat could solve your richness issues , not sure if that heater is heatercraft unit or not. should be easy hookup or to get the parts.
Update: added thermostat and had to adjust timing. It fixed all issues.
Awesome video really enjoyed it. Thank you for for sure. Tiny Houston MS ( Len Price )
I didn't see a heat exchanger, so can you explain why it has a raw water pump and a normsk engine water pump? Thanks.
The raw water pump is self priming and picks it ip from the bay/lake/ocean etc. The water pump on the engine circulates it throughout the engine.
I have the potential to pick one of these up for 1500 bucks basically in your condition, needs a motor. Should I buy it?
Hands down! My buddy just sold the same boat for 10k… no brainer. I paid 6k for mine!
The starter mount can be disassembled and refitted with the new starter
Just take apart your old starter u will see what I’m talking about
Got the same boat and going to be rebuilding my motor soon. What cam and carb did you go with?
Edelbrock 600 marine carb. I’m not sure what specific cam is in it. 340hp/380ftlbs
Engine will run better it proper temp. Install a thermostat. My indmar 650 chevy runs a 180.
Just installed a 140 degree t stat. Hopefully that helps this year!
Great job. I don't think I've had an inboard boat that didn't have a seep at first run. Always carried a couple large adjustable wrenches to tweak when needed.
do you mind sharing where you got the engine?
eBay!!!
What kind of top speeds are you hitting?
55 mph. I need to change props. Running a 4 blade 13p right now.
Just started watching your videos. I love boats and have been working on my 2001 Bayliner Sport for 3 years now. She is almost finished but I still have a ground issue somewhere ?
When I put on my nav lights my gages freak out on me? Also, after running the boat hard for a few hours, it will act funny, Like the alternator will start to over charge and gages act up again?
Any way love the content, keep up the great work man. If you have any ideas on my project/problem don't hesitate to throw me some of that knowledge brother! (CHEERS) #miilerltelife
If you need some barefoot, waterski lessons, let me know forwards and backwards, toehold surface turns
nice vid my guy. what is that tune playing in the background 14:50
You never even called me by my name - David Allen Coe
@@XxtylerisradxX thank you
Hope you used marine parts and not just automotive. Marine carbs have j-tubes, marine fuel pump have a sight line that runs to the flame arrestor. Should be a hard line running from fuel pump to carb. Marine distributor and starter which are spark isolated. There are important safety reasons as to why these parts are different.
Why did you rename channel?
To make it easier to search and market the content I produce. Makin Motor Moves was too generic and hard to search
You never even call me by my name..........
Awesome channel! New sub! Was going to smash that like button, but it was at 69! Couldn’t do it!😂
I know your on a budget but i would of went fuel injection
that boat is made specifically for towing a skier on a single ski in a straight line in smooth water. Its very good at what it does, terrible for everything else
Yes, yes it is. Barefooting too.
Put a thermostat in it ask engine builder not good to run too cool
Do you want to sell your old exhaust manifolds and elbows?
Long gone sorry!
I don't think Edelbrock makes a 650 marine carb, so guessing that's a regular automotive carb. This thing will be a timebomb using automotive parts. Just look up boat explosions from fuel vapor on youtube, and you'll see what I mean. That carb, mixed with a automotive starter, that's a huge recipe for disaster.
Edelbrock do make a marine version
Maybe jusrt get a 350 mag mpi and save some time and avoid malibu
Where’s the fun in that!
Such a cool boat. Ending wasn’t lookin good.
Had to adjust timing and add a thermostat. A little carb tuning did the trick too. All good
