Listening to Pat talk with the music in the background really makes me miss the PMG. I wish they were still touring so I could go see the band again. I'm sure all of the fans feel the same way.

Well! As Lyle no longer are whit ous here on earth so do I really believe that Pat are not going to play as the Pat Metheny Group anymore. As the never going to be the same thing.

I’ve seen Pat Metheny so many times. And seen the Pat Metheny group numerous times. All incredible experiences. Maybe I’m speaking out of turn here as it’s not my place to say, but it feels to me like there can never be a Pat Metheny group now that Lyle has passed away. I was so sad when I got that news. And I’ve watched “September Fifteenth” live TH-cam clip more” times than I can count since. The first time I heard Pat Metheny was on Joni Mitchell’s shadows and light album. Pat solo I’ve been an Uber fan ever since. One of my favourite birthday gifts was when my stepmother tracked down bright size life - a record that was almost impossible to find in Canada at the time

First heard Metheny on WLYX Radio, Memphis in 1976 (Then broadcasted from what was called Southwestern College).
I envisioned a band of short haired hip intellectual guys in suits in their 50s and 60s. Was glad to learn he was my age, and Jaco, and later the PMG were hip long hairs.
He is an absolute phenomenon and it becomes even more obvious listening to his vast knowledge, analyses and insights. Very fascinating hearing his mind.
I think if Bach were interviewed there would be huge kinship and similarities.
Genius plus that bordering on "mental illness" dedication he jokes about and the work done for the music.
    He has always been "beyond".
Thanks Pat for all the years of music that truly transcends and blesses our senses.
It is a gift from God.
And thanks Richard for these great interviews with him.

'Jazz doesn't work as classical music'. Yet The Way Up is a great example of how it can: a 'jazz symphony', as Lyle called it.

    Very profound

Pat often emphasises that aspect all musicians experience - intense practice and preparation can “free” one’s playing the way we all seek. Not just “jazz” or improv by any means.

The underlying music is unbearable. As much as I love Pat and his music I would like to listen to him without the "noise".
