Mike Stern Guitar Masterclass
Guitarists and jazzbos will love this masterclass in improvisation from award-winning guitarist and composer @mikestern2546 Mike Stern.
Recorded in 2007 at his NY apartment, the floors covered in music, he talks working with @MilesDavis and Michael Brecker, and demonstrates his concepts on his Telecaster, aided by the superb Janek Gwizdala on bass.
I went to the @Berkleewith Mike 1971-1975 and he played in my Guitar Quartet commissioned by @PatMethenyOfficial with guitarists Mitch Coodley and Jay Azzolina. So, this is a relaxed friendly ‘hang’ that will be a valuable resource for students and fun for all.
I recorded this for my two @bbcradio1series “What is Melody?” and “Inside Improvisation.

And Innovations in Modern Music is among the most important works of art made during the 20th century. Both things - he’s a genius and yet can’t swing - can be and are simultaneously true.

    Thanks so very much for the podcast share! I'm a drummer who is getting back into playing after many years and it is great to hear tips on playing with arthritis in mind. I've been an improv player by preference, but I also read sheet music. I wish I could have heard stuff like this back when I was in school 30 years ago because I never would have believed all those people telling me being an improv player was a bad thing. You rock Richard! Love your tutorials and courses on ProMix :)

    Esquivel's excellent album "Latin-esque" on RCA Victor in Living Stereo in 1962 was one of RCA's "Stereo Action" series, the music that surrounds you! I like to think that his music was created for audiophiles who loved their modern Stereo systems.

  • @TheDejael
    @TheDejael 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

    How many are here from visiting with Charles Phoenix sites? I know! Not me! I have been an Esquivel fan since 1960, when I fell in love with the music of Henry Mancini, and his music led me to Esquivel, and others in the Exotica genre. (Of course, I was a Martin Denny fan since 1958, when I first heard "Quiet Village".) But Juan Garcia Esquivel. He was smokin' hot! No wonder Sinatra and Dino, and the Rat Pack, loved his music! They were my parents' generation, I was raised on my Dad's Big Band Swing of the 1940s, and my Mom's love of old time Gospel, Country, Western and Bluegrass music, so naturally I was hooked on Elvis Presley when I was only 8 years old in 1955 when I first heard an Elvis song (on Sun Records) man, I was gone, and Rock'n'Roll was my thing. But I also loved Modern Jazz like Mancini's Jazz period, 1957-1967, and Stan Kenton, Dizzy and Shorty Rogers, and even Sun Ra. Esquivel was really cool, ultramodern Space Age Mid-Century Modern Classic Latin Beat Light Pop Orchestral, with the cool vocal chorus, and eclectic things, like "Boink! Boink!" Ir was like the soundtrack to a wild crazy ultramodern Technicolor cartoon series. I started collecting Esquivel and Mancini records in the 1960s, and loved every RCA Victor release I could find by them. They had to be cool if they were on Elvis Presley's label! Esquivel's piano stylings are beyond flamboyant - he was brilliant, sonic and spectacular! I wish I had been old enough to see him perform live in concert in Las Vegas. At least I got to see Elvis perform there in 1969!

      During their tenure with Mercury Records in the 1950s, Sarah Vaughan and Billy Eckstine collaborated on several recordings, with arrangements primarily crafted by Hal Mooney. Notably, their 1957 album Sarah Vaughan and Billy Eckstine Sing the Best of Irving Berlin featured Mooney's arrangements and conducting. Additionally, Joe Lipman contributed arrangements for their duets during this period. For instance, he arranged four songs for their 1951 album Dedicated to You.
