Thanks Steve! Might want to pin a comment on the top for the many folks that don't see the new options popping up, (greyed out) in the Nvidia App. (A refresh: [3 dots on top left] or a fresh install of the Nvidia App. after PC re-start works to [un-Grey] the options.
@@donfrith3164 If it's greyed out and says unsupported, on left side near top of window will be the 3 dots below program settings and global settings tabs. Click that and select refresh and see if it is no longer greyed out and says the same thing or I think it switches to "Use 3D application" and no long greyed out and NOW you can now click on it. Other option is to remove Nvidia App. program, restart PC and reinstall.

@737sst no, it‘s not. But for VR you probably will notice the biggest improvement as now with DLSS4 the Image quality and clarity comes a big step closer to 2D Screens (4K) with more or less no cost in Performance
OMG, I just tried DLAA in FS2020 (in VR) and it is spectacular for analoge cockpits or external views! Truly remarkable! It's still way too blurry for digital displays so I'll have to swap back and forth.
All the DLSS settings are showing as unsupported in my Nvidia app (in every game). Ive tried everything, DDU uninstall and reinstall latest app and drivers... Nothing. Using a 4070Ti
Consider me impressed. I had gone through these steps (I thought) with MSFS 2024 and didn't see a difference worth noting. But then I just watched your new video and went back through the steps again using your "simple" method (that gets you preset J), and for some reason it worked this time. Night and day really. In fact, the uplift in clarity almost felt like I had just upgraded my graphics card. I'm running my Pimax Crystal in 120Hz mode at 85% custom render resolution + Quality DLSS on my 4090 and while previously, like you, I was kind of back and forth on DLSS vs TAA, this rev. of DLSS pretty much destroys TAA as the being the better option. In fact, I'll probably toy around with actually lowering my render resolution a bit (or using Balanced DLSS mode) to get some more performance that I had previously left on the table to get acceptable clarity since there's now a lot more headroom. Definitely a game-changer, especially for VFR. I have been able to read dials and see distant objects, that I have never been able to read or see before.
Not MSFS, but alot of people are waiting for test results and/if updating to DLSS4 provides any improvements in DCS. Some are reporting sharper images.
This update is heads and shoulders above the rest. I am a cockpit detail guy and this is the first update where there was an acceptable balance between detail inside, outside and FPS. I have never pulled a stable 45 FPS until now.
This was the easiest set up I have ever done for MSFS 2020 works great thanks steve. still not buying 2024 waiting for your review when all issues have been sorted.

It's been such a head spinner, I just wanted to make this as simple as possible. This whole obsession to enable Preset K in 2024 isn't worth it right now imo, as they both look very similar. Plus no doubt things will change again soon anyway and hopefully we will get native support.
There is actually no need to swap the DLL Files with DLSS Swapper anymore with the new Driver and the Override Feature in NVidia App . The 310.2.1.0 with Preset K will be dynamicaly loaded from the NVIDIA Driver - thats the new Feature. I‘ve rolled back mine to the original 2.4.10 in MSFS2020 and it still Displays Version 310.2.1.0 / Preset K with the Addition „nvapp_override“ at bottom left with the Registry-Hack enabled. Can confirm the Preset K shows slightly worse Performance than with the Preview before the official Driver was Released .. will try Preset J again as suggested :)
For me the DLSS Swapper was needed, as beforehand I could tell the clarity suffered until I updated (tested on a new PC). There are a lot of variables here between all our systems, for some you won't need to do this, some of you will, so to be sure and safe for this video, I decided to add this step in.

Try refreshing the games list (the 3 dots at the top). If it still doesn't show, try reinstalling the nVidia app. Make sure you don't miss any of the steps. Done right you should be able to change one of the settings like in the video. Works here.
I updated the Nvidia app, updated the driver to latest version, restarted the PC. But, in the Nvidia app, for FS2020, at the top, there is "Unable to retrieve settings. Try again later." and for FS2024, at the top, there is "Unable to load optimal values. Try again later." For both FS2020 and FS2024, in Driver Settings, each of the three DLSS Override Model.../Frame.../Super Resolution... shows Unsupported. No idea why. I have a 3090 GPU.

I have a 3080 and I had read somewhere it was a bug with SU1 Beta but in a later comment the person does not have the beta installed and they still have the same issue. I did. Although I accept that I won't get pinpoint sharp visuals because my eye glasses aren't perfect for my HMD, DLSS 4 made a noticeable improvement. The best my Vive Pro 2 has ever been. My eye glasses must be slightly out because I can see the 'screen door effect', but the image is now just slightly out vof focus.

I've tried the latest preset K in Stalker 2 VR mod and I don't kow what kind of black magic this is but it looks great, plays smooth despite frames actually dropped a bit.
Many thanks for that! I have found that it is indeed a NICE step up in VR, however, VR + DLSS4 + Night Time = not as good for cockpit clarity. Not sure why, but night time is not as good.
@VR Flight Sim Guy Thanks for the video Steve. As someone who has never used DLSS with MSFS, I am still confused by how it gets applied in VR. After selecting it in-game in the gfx settings and picking a rendering quality (performance/balanced/quality), how and where do you select a rendering resolution vs a rescaled resolution? Or am I misunderstanding how it works and not asking the right question? With the moving parts of the flight sim itself, SteamVR or VirtualDesktop, and OpenXR toolkit, I am not sure how to set up that part.
To anybody interested: I have preset K working just fine in msfs2024. And in 2024, the K preset works "much" better than the J preset. Yes it takes some work to do it 2024. But it IS worth it.

What I did: I deleted the NVidia App, even though I had the latest version that launched today. Then I restarted my pc, installed the App again, and then it worked. I’ll try that! 👍 - Maybe something happened in the install, cuz I also suddenly have a CTD issue since the app update. It loads into the menu and then CTD. Hopefully deleting the app and reinstall will fix these issues 😊
Hi Steve - quick question! I did the DLLS mod a week ago, ie DLSS tweaks, XML file added to inspector etc, then set to preset J to allow the DLSS mod to work, do I now have to remove all that? Or is it a case you leave as is, update to new driver (change to J in Nvidia app) and your good to go?
It looks great indeed. The only thing I notice is that when I look from one point to another I see the image sharpening all the time. Looks a bit like if you watch at something if becomes sharp. Its like they use some kind of fovehead rendering. But Its very usable and the overall picture quality is way better then TAA. Just curious what that real time sharpening is. (Solved downloading 310.1.2 did the trick)
Thanks Steve. Everything worked OK for 2020, at least after doing the refresh thing in the Nvidia app, but in 2024 for DLSS Override - Models Present its still greyed out and says Use the 3D application settings so I cant set it to Latest.
I tried everything, but it is unsupported in the nvapp for 2024. Moreover, even though the game shows DLSS and preset version, VR is horribly stuttering, and it’s obvious that DLSS isn’t being used. I’ve tried to roll back but so many issues now. I regret not waiting and read comments first.
Using latest with J: While the glass cockpit is better, it still blurs moving stuff like altitude and airspeed. If I scroll autopilot altitude or IAS, it's not readable until you stop and wait a second. Performance was better than TAA with solid 45fps, but I use for IFR and the blur is annoying.
I does not work with 2024. Maybe it work with 2024 if you also have 2020 edition. I have deleted my MSFS 2020 and have only 2024 edition installed. I am on a 3080 with quest 3. With the swapper and latest edition of DSLL i Get sharper image in 2024. But in the Nvidia app everything is grey.
Hello Steve, i made the DLSS swapper, make the configuration in nvidia driver. I have a 4090 and with DLSS quality i have only 20fps. Strange i remember i had around 40 fps before with DLSS quality.

MFS 2024 Sucks big time, play game last night but scenery is not loading at all, maybe server is down again?. It just hit and miss every another day. Is this normal ?. i have fiberoptic fast internet.

Hmmm downloaded DLSS Swapper from your link, and as soon as I ran it, it said it was an old version, and to download the latest. I did this, and then none of my games would show up. Uninstalled, and put the older version back on, games showed up - but only v310.1 was available. Any thoughts?
Use the latest version. It can do this on the first run. Open it again and your games will be present. It might be worth restarting your PC if you're still having issues.
I had the same issue upon upgrading to the new version of the swapper a couple of days ago. You need to toggle the game filter settings. Remove all filters - you should see all games on your PC. Re-apply filter - you should see MSFS and other games w/ swappable files.
I just discovered that the Pimax 8KX and Pimax Play software is apparently not compatible with the latest NVIDIA driver on my system -- I had to roll the NVIDIA driver back to 566.14 to get it to work again. With the new 572.16 driver, the Pimax Play software doesn't even think the headset is connected to the computer! It's _aaaaalways_ something... ;-)

@@VRFlightSimGuy Update: Apparently I spoke too soon -- doing a 'clean install' of the new driver only worked one time, and hasn't worked since then. After doing some more fiddling around, I discovered that using NVIDIA PhysX to span my three monitors was causing the problem. After disabling PhysX, the 8KX and Pimax Play are working reliably again. Sheeze, the things we go through for VR huh! Hopefully this helps someone who sees this later on down the road.

Weirdly I notice you have an option to download a DLSS version v310.2.1 but the latest for me is v310.1 in swapper (I have the latest swapper I think 1.1.3.1) so don't know why that is, any suggestions? Thank you Steve for this great video. After setting as you described for Fs2020, performances and the sharpness were really good for external visual and inside the cockpit. For glass cockpit, it’s better than all previous DLSS update but it remains blurry with ghosting effects, and for commercial aircraft such as the Fenix A320 or the 777 pmdg it doesn’t match for me.
I have to use performance mode since DLAA option makes the game unplayable. Can crank up all the Ultra settings. 4090, reverb g2(70% ss and locked at 45fps).

It does, not perfect but huge difference. This is also a "pre-release" as NVIDIA said that they don't consider it fully production ready

I just tried in FS2024 (in VR) and DLSS is great there too! Way better than TAA! Even quality DLSS looks pretty good! Wow!

How did preset J work with the official driver?

Steve, do you expect MS to update both 2020 & 2024 to contain the DLSS 4 DLL removing the need to use swapper eventually?
works with 2020 but not with 2024 in nvidia app (rtx 3080). All is gray and can't be selected for 2024 in nvidia app.

@VR Flight Sim Guy Thanks for the video Steve. As someone who has never used DLSS with MSFS, I am still confused by how it gets applied in VR. After selecting it in-game in the gfx settings and picking a rendering quality (performance/balanced/quality), how and where do you select a rendering resolution vs a rescaled resolution? Or am I misunderstanding how it works and not asking the right question? With the moving parts of the flight sim itself, SteamVR or VirtualDesktop, and OpenXR toolkit, I am not sure how to set up that part.
To anybody interested: I have preset K working just fine in msfs2024. And in 2024, the K preset works "much" better than the J preset. Yes it takes some work to do it 2024. But it IS worth it.
I have now too and funny enough it started working just using the method shown above. I still think J performs better though.
Do you still use DLSS Tweaks now this is out?
What about openxrtool kit have you tried that yet I don’t think you need to override the resolution just wondering what is you thoughts on that

I think a lot of people are going to stop talking crap about Nvidia's 5000 series after seeing the tech for themselves.
When doing this, is there a specific way to start the SIM. Or does it just know you've done all this?
cant find the 310.2. i only have the 1310.1.0.0 my new installed software dident have it
nVidia app - presets set to use DLSS technologies in model presets still greyed out after 3 dot refresh and reinstall, very frustrating! 3090 Founders...
For my system, HAGS needed to be disabled, otherwise whole PC would crash to a restart. Hope that helps someone.
Yes this happened to me. Specifically when I swapped back to Direct X11 from DX12.
Great video ! I’ve downloaded the app, but all the DLSS Override says Not Supported. Is that because I’ve not installed the swapper? FS2020
Seeing the same thing. I do, however, have the swapper installed with the latest DLSS iteration so it must be something else.
@@jonmabec I've heard this can happen, try restarting your PC and / or re installing the Nvidia app. Hopefully that will solve the issue.

What I did: I deleted the NVidia App, even though I had the latest version that launched today. Then I restarted my pc, installed the App again, and then it worked. So for those with the same problem as I had, uninstall the app, restart pc, and install.''
@@VRFlightSimGuy Thanks! Ok. I’ve tried to reinstall the app and restart the PC, but have not yet tried to delete the app and reinstall. I’ll try that! 👍 - Maybe something happened in the install, cuz I also suddenly have a CTD issue since the app update. It loads into the menu and then CTD. Hopefully deleting the app and reinstall will fix these issues 😊

Hi Steve - quick question! I did the DLLS mod a week ago, ie DLSS tweaks, XML file added to inspector etc, then set to preset J to allow the DLSS mod to work, do I now have to remove all that? Or is it a case you leave as is, update to new driver (change to J in Nvidia app) and your good to go?
I'd remove DLSS Tweaks unless you want to further refine the settings. I've also got rid of inspector as I don't use it.

Do you need to use the swapper still?
It looks great indeed. The only thing I notice is that when I look from one point to another I see the image sharpening all the time. Looks a bit like if you watch at something if becomes sharp. Its like they use some kind of fovehead rendering. But Its very usable and the overall picture quality is way better then TAA.
Just curious what that real time sharpening is.
(Solved downloading 310.1.2 did the trick)

Everything worked OK for 2020, at least after doing the refresh thing in the Nvidia app, but in 2024 for DLSS Override - Models Present its still greyed out and says Use the 3D application settings so I cant set it to Latest.
I tried everything, but it is unsupported in the nvapp for 2024. Moreover, even though the game shows DLSS and preset version, VR is horribly stuttering, and it’s obvious that DLSS isn’t being used. I’ve tried to roll back but so many issues now. I regret not waiting and read comments first.

Nope. I wouldn't bother, this method works well enough and less faff is always good in my book 😁
Using latest with J: While the glass cockpit is better, it still blurs moving stuff like altitude and airspeed. If I scroll autopilot altitude or IAS, it's not readable until you stop and wait a second. Performance was better than TAA with solid 45fps, but I use for IFR and the blur is annoying.

If it's any help I'm using it with a 3080 and the difference in 2020 is astonishing. I'm one of the people who can't get it working in 2024.
I does not work with 2024. Maybe it work with 2024 if you also have 2020 edition. I have deleted my MSFS 2020 and have only 2024 edition installed. I am on a 3080 with quest 3. With the swapper and latest edition of DSLL i Get sharper image in 2024. But in the Nvidia app everything is grey.
Hello Steve, i made the DLSS swapper, make the configuration in nvidia driver. I have a 4090 and with DLSS quality i have only 20fps. Strange i remember i had around 40 fps before with DLSS quality.

MFS 2024 Sucks big time, play game last night but scenery is not loading at all, maybe server is down again?. It just hit and miss every another day. Is this normal ?. i have fiberoptic fast internet.

Absolutely. Especially in MSFS2024.
Can you make a video on the best overalll settings for MSFS? Running a 4090 and 9800X3D if that matters. I also have a Pimax 8KX

Hmmm downloaded DLSS Swapper from your link, and as soon as I ran it, it said it was an old version, and to download the latest. I did this, and then none of my games would show up. Uninstalled, and put the older version back on, games showed up - but only v310.1 was available. Any thoughts?
Use the latest version. It can do this on the first run. Open it again and your games will be present. It might be worth restarting your PC if you're still having issues.

I had the same issue upon upgrading to the new version of the swapper a couple of days ago. You need to toggle the game filter settings. Remove all filters - you should see all games on your PC. Re-apply filter - you should see MSFS and other games w/ swappable files.

I just discovered that the Pimax 8KX and Pimax Play software is apparently not compatible with the latest NVIDIA driver on my system -- I had to roll the NVIDIA driver back to 566.14 to get it to work again. With the new 572.16 driver, the Pimax Play software doesn't even think the headset is connected to the computer! It's _aaaaalways_ something... ;-)
I've been testing with the PCL using the latest Nvidia driver with no issues Mike.

@@VRFlightSimGuy Update: Apparently I spoke too soon -- doing a 'clean install' of the new driver only worked one time, and hasn't worked since then. After doing some more fiddling around, I discovered that using NVIDIA PhysX to span my three monitors was causing the problem. After disabling PhysX,
the 8KX and Pimax Play are working reliably again. Sheeze, the things we go through for VR huh! Hopefully this helps someone who sees this later on down the road.

Weirdly I notice you have an option to download a DLSS version v310.2.1 but the latest for me is v310.1 in swapper (I have the latest swapper I think 1.1.3.1) so don't know why that is, any suggestions? @@VRFlightSimGuy even after downloading those files and dropping them into the msfs24 folder it only shows underneeth the game that it is v310.2.1 but in the dlss swap list it does not show like yours

Thank you Steve for this great video. After setting as you described for Fs2020, performances and the sharpness were really good for external visual and inside the cockpit. For glass cockpit, it’s better than all previous DLSS update but it remains blurry with ghosting effects, and for commercial aircraft such as the Fenix A320 or the 777 pmdg it doesn’t match for me.
Not sure why, but with the latest driver and preset K (Latest), my VR performance went down HARD!! Anyone else?

Still doing testing but K and J seem quite similar on my machine (3070). I still have to do some dx11/dx12 comparisons.
I have to use performance mode since DLAA option makes the game unplayable. Can crank up all the Ultra settings. 4090, reverb g2(70% ss and locked at 45fps).
