AMD couldn't compete. Nvidia's architecture was scaling with power and memory overclocks whilst AMDs wasn't. Gddr7 just let them give the GPUs more power to unlock some untapped performance. Apart from that, no node shrink = no big performance gains for either company. AMD is jumping to RT cores, meaning less die space for raster, or bigger dies in general. AMD probably knew they couldn't even compete with themselves on price/perf unless they stress on RT performance alone.

And used the 4NP TSMC process node (also 5 nanometers "enhanced" , but only 7% denser) in the 50 series gpus.
So i am not surprised that the efficiency gains are very close or equal to 0.
Why didn’t they use 3 nanometers or 4 nanometers you might ask?

I see $500 for the XT and $450 for the regular 9070 to be fair.
Bro, the rtx 40 series sucks. I can't believe you all are dumping on the 50 series. THE 40 SERIES IS BUILT OF THE SAME GARBAGE BUT WORSE WITH FAKE FRAME GEN. The entire RTX series is trash.

The year of the remaster has come to hardware now too
I don't mind Nvidia releasing a new generation with better efficiency, what i do mind, on the other hand, is Nvidia marketing these as leaps and bounds ahead of previous gen, lying about performance, and pushing ai features on the same tier as traditional computational features.
Yes.
Yup. I’m actually impressed with how they’ve shrunk the gpus while still being more powerful (even if only slightly) and really good cooling.
But they tried to sell it as a massive leap in performance, when in reality, it was never going to be.
And while DLSS4 has shown to be incredibly good with the transformer model.
MFG (which is the only software exclusive to the 50 series), is not that useful. It adds even more lag and more visual issues.
True, SFFPC enthusiasts are eating good at least. A 4070 super aftermarket is already a 2.5 slot card on average, now the 5090 is just 2 slots. That's a lot of extra room for tiny PCs, not to mention the potential undervolting performance.
Jayztwocents said the 5080 latency was horrible. That there wasn't enough vram for it to function smooth like the 5090. This is a joke.
I really appreciate your short-form videos. You manage to cram all the relevant info in just over five minutes, as opposed to the big review studios making 20-30 minute videos. Yes, they add some more details, but those aren’t really relevant for the vast majority of people.
Kinda feels like Nvidia has reached a point where instead of innovating they are now following Apple's footsteps.
Basically
They were already there at Apple's position. AMD's 6000 series was better than what Nvidia offered for 95% of the people who buy these GPUs, but Nvidia is seen as some holy grail so people never bothered, much like Android vs iPhone except AMD just quit.
Everyone wants AMD to be competitive just so Nvidia can get cheaper, but most people who urge for them to do so aren't pulling the trigger on AMD, they are waiting for others to do so they can get the Nvidia GPUs, and AMD knows this which is why they aren't even going to bother with their GPUs.
Glad you're keeping it real. So many "reviewers" *cough* youtubers *cough* seem to have sold their souls to Nvidia instead of actually informing the public.
Thanks for the review 👌
Who? Most are saying it is crap. Obviously Shillital Foundry aren't.

0:31 im pretty sure the new gen didn't receive a new process at all, its still 5 nanometers for all 50 series and thats why the performance uplift this gen is so abysmal.
Different process but still 5nm
@DurzoBlunts I think it is the same process unless the TechPowerUp GPU database is incorrect. It even has slightly fewer transistors than the AD103 die in the 4080, which is almost never the case with a newer process.

People for real need to start boycutting Nvidia.. it's that simple, do that for a year or two, and they'll start improving. As long as you buffoons keep buying their cards, they will keep not caring.
Edit: people sure are dumb when responding to this comment, oh boy.
You know that computer GPUs is
@@ivanjermakov That's still a lot of money. Especially when a lot of the production and development costs are shared among their various lines
Thats just unrealistic…
Also, the lack of innovation is not surprising when looking at two points:
1) Nvidia has no competition in the high-end GPU market - any market without competition is bad for the consumer. Still, not really Nvidias fault, any company would be more than happy to enjoy that market position.
2) The physical boundaries of transistor sizes is almost reached. Its just not as easy to further improve the performance. At least for now, we have to wait for a breakthrough.
Also, to be honest: The price „scandal“ is a little hilarious when you compare gaming to other hobbies. E.g. skiiing, cars, tennis, drinking on the weekend…
All of those hobbies are way more expensive than buying a GPU for $1000 every 4 years.
GPU's have uses outside gaming, so boycotting won't work
The 50 and the 40 series both use the same TSMC 4N node.
which is why theres no efficiency improvements. I don't know why this is a surprise to anyone.

DLSS 4 is definitely a marketing dream...
Bro got a whole Batman underground cave.
05:00 Doesn’t that kinda defeat the point? If you’re not getting decent frame rate, and you turn it on and it produces an even worse experience, it’s pointless on any card that isn’t getting 70-80fps already, it’s a win more feature at that point
Starting at 60 fps it looks fine. It's frame smoothing. That's pretty much it
@ that was my point, to use it and have it not look garbage, you need a useable frame rate to start. So it kinda defeats the purpose of using it to get up to a playable frame rate
@@jond7691it is not used for that, it is used to smoothen frames.

Absolute disgrace. 14% increase? Power consumptions going through the roof. While performance absolutely lacks.
Actually if you watch the review the performance vs 4080 Super is up while power consumption is down, so it's faster AND more efficient. People are just whining because they were hoping for a greater performance increase.
@@tuntitommosille
People are whining because the Nvidia leather jacket overpromised and underdelivered.
@@tuntitommosille The power is consumption is down a very small amount and performance between it and the 4080 super was at 9 percent and his chart was skewed by an outlier of a game that for some reason had a higher uplift. Realistically it's closer to a 6 percent uplift. which is just sad
@@tuntitommosille I for once disagree and will say this card is abysmal in terms of price to performance. Not performance necessarily and temps but DEFINITELY price wise.
@@PiotrBarcz 5080 is the same MSRP as 4080 Super, while having better performance and efficiency. Just because some people had the unrealistic expectation of getting 4090 performance for $999 doesn't make this a bad product or poor value.
4:39 some review (possible LTT) said that framegen makes the most sense when you need it the least - I think this confirms your findings well. It really only works well when the starting point isn’t too bad, and that isn’t really when you’d really want it.
That shouldn't come as a surprise at all. The statement of "when you need it the least" is misleading, or the target audience is wildly misinformed. You'd want interpolation for motion clarity, and it mostly does deliver on that. The main usecase, in my opinion, is going from very high refresh rates (min 80fps, better >200fps) to refresh rates higher than you can perceive. If you need better latency, interpolation just is the wrong tech alltogether. One promising option is frame reprojection, and in the VR space a lightweight version of that has been in use for over a decade. NVidias Reflex 2 is a step in that direction, but there's a lot of room for improvement.
2kliksphilip said that and showed examples just how much worse and floaty it gets when your input framerate is low. resulting framerate looks like it's good, but there's artifacts galore and it doesn't feel right. on the other side of the spectrum: if you can get beyond 100fps anyway, why bother with it
@ definitely not where I saw it, personally, but more people reaching the same conclusions just confirms the conclusion. NVIDIA BS marketing, yet again.
Can’t wait for a Chinese company to come out of nowhere with a product that actually pushes the market forward. Disappointing that the gpu market is in this state.
Chinese products come with a hidden price. CCP will subsidize it so it can undercut any competition. Once the competition is dead, the price increases will begin. Same dance, different partner
China is too good. They'll get there eventually.
cant wait for my ryzon 6690 RTXT for 50€ from temu 💀
Sure sure...
Not gonna happen.
They can't really build in more transistors in a smaller space (2 nanometers) so the hardware just becomes bigger in size instead, which also increases energy consumption. I don't expect the future graphic cards to get much better than this but i hope i am wrong.
The RTX 4000 series is also on the same so called TSMC 4N (that is TSMC 5nm process). So there are both on the same process that's why there isn't any performance improvement.
That and they kept the architecture mostly the same as Ada, Probably has a two cycle development cadence. I wonder if they'll unlock some extra performance specifically for 50 series in the drivers.
I think they purposely decrease the generational performance leap from 4080 to 5080 just so that they can say that there’s around a 50% increase in performance between 5080 to 5090 for marketing
What’s the point? It’s not like ppl aren’t going to buy out the 5090 either way
Or maybe we’re reaching a plateau in performance

Rip man. Rip... was hoping to get a 2x uplift coming from my 10gb 3080, but it seems we are all being let down. Sadly can't justify the 5090, especially since it'll almost certainly be selling for way over an already crazy $2k msrp 😞
4080 super is the way to go if you want to upgrade. 5090, if you can afford it, is still a really good card. Nobody should be complaining about the price to performance if it doesn't drop BELOW what it was which is exactly what happened with the 5080.
wait for next gen. This is a rip-off
@ Yeah I'm thinking I may wait for next gen sadly. Really don't want to wait another full cycle, but I was hoping for more uplift coming from the 3080. 4080 S would be sweet I'm sure, but more like a 40-50% gain. Contemplating upgrading the rest of my rig to the 9800X3D and DDR5 ram, but then again, by the time there's an actually worth while GPU upgrade available, even newer and better CPUs will be on the scene. May just have to wait all together unfortunately. At least my 3080 and 5800X3D is holding pretty strong at 1440p. Just can't play some of the newest games like Alan Wake 2, SH2R, and Black Myth.
@@CargoShorts7 I mean you can lower the settings a bit, the games will still look pretty nice.
@ Yeah I think that's the reality I just gotta accept lol. My once mighty 3080 can't run everything at max settings anymore and that's just the way it goes. I am admittedly a gerbil brained gamer who likes to look at ray tracing in single player games haha, but 10gb just isn't enough for some of these newer titles. Haven't tried stuff like Black Myth with lowered settings yet, but it's def worth a try
performance per watt is also important, we can't just have sitting around 1000W graphics cards, they have to find the middle point, but if the performance leap from 4080 to 5080 is not worth it, just wait one more gen, you don't need to swap you gfx every year...
