I was thinking that if you sifted the chalk with a fine sifter, then maybe you won’t get the lumps 😊 Btw, the mortar is the bowl and the the pestle is what you hold in your hand 😃
Hard Pastel colors are one of my first ways to color resin when i first started learning , and loved the color shades they give to the pieces ( translusent).
I have been watching your more recent videos and just now watching older videos, I love how down to earth you are, and how helpful you are to new and more experienced resin crafters. I would love for us to get together and craft together, but I’m in Victoria, TX, USA. 😊
Oh Steve, you always put a smile on my face and give me little chuckles. Thank you! These pieces came out great! I'd of never thought to use chalk or crayons for that matter... shocking but awesome results! 💙
That was awesome Steve! The red, blue and yellow, which turned into an orange, were gorgeous colours! What a cool way to colour resin if you want a gritty design.
@@SteveMcDonaldArtsandCrafts I will be doing it. I pulled back a little bit on my cooking and art videos the algorithms don't seem to like them but I love them so will be starting them back up here pretty soon have a happy healthy safe day Steve
I love your videos Steve… always showing us ways to ‘art &craft’ with stuff we’re likely to have lying around at home! And I love your shirt in this video… made me think of Where’s Wally!!! Hehehe
Another thing I've used is pastel chalks. Like chalk, it is best to mix and let sit a few minutes for the sediment to sink. I love your experiments. I have good luck with them and eye shadow as well. I usually use a fingernail to scrape. I asked a ? on another video, but I'll ask it again...When you spray your molds with release conditioner, do you let it dry before pouring or not? Thanks
I just watched a TH-cam video of nail technicians starting to use chalk to color their acrylic nails. So I was wondering if it would work in resin, NOW I KNOW!!! I homeschooled my daughter and I have a butt load of chalk, even some with glitter in it. Guess I know what I’m doing today! 🤪
What a great result 💕💕. Love the colours and I think if you left some lumpy bits in the texture could be interesting. Off to buy some chalks and play. Thanks for your fun and inspirational ideas xx
I enjoy watching your videos. I also work with resin and love learning about new ways of working with it, and interestingly I have chalk that I can use.
Wowed big time!! That’s a whole other look! If the chunky stuff was sifted out it would be smooth.. if it’s left chunkier more effects like your coaster happen. Wow 🤩 Now I’m wondering what might happen if I added drips of tints or color or dabbled micas etc onto to chunky bits & let them dry before dropping it onto the resin. I love your experiments! They set my mind off in all directions👌💯💯👏👏👏 Thanks 😊 is
Steve let me start saying thank you for sharing your knowledge to us beginners really appreciate all your videos my suggestion on what to use for crushing the chalk i a coffee grinder
I have used glitter glue, on some projects if it's on the top you can feel it, but if for example you do a thin plain resin, then add some glue let it dry to nearly set, then add the top resin coat, so the glue is in the middle, you can get some interesting effects. Thankyou as aways for you video I am going to try this.
I really love the texture it could add to a piece. You could use the chalks for a texture within a mica colored piece. The suncatcher is very pretty with a kinda universal look to it. If you were making a sky or galaxy-inspired piece that could work to give it the texture it needs. I'm gonna be using this with some other technics and see what I can come up with. Thanks for the video and the idea of using chalks!
I know this is 2 years later but I have been watching you for a few months. Maybe using a medium in the chalk to loosen it before it goes into resin. Maybe a little bit of alcohol not sure what else to use. To make it a liquid not to much. I do like the speckles in it wonder if you can make a turquoise stone look with it. Thank you for doing this experiment.
Great discovery. There are a lot of chalks out there, including so-called artist chalks, which are highly pigmented and come in great colors. The coaster is worthy of Jackson Pollock and much better than Rothko. I am headed for Michaels and Hobby Lobby, but there are some inexpensive chalks on Amazon, too.
I would try sending the crushed chalk through a sifter to get the chunks out. I also use a mini electric coffee bean grinder to macerate items for my crafts.
Woaw you did great again..... 🎉👍 I once tried and BIG FAILED although the powder was smooth 😭 I don't know why..... The failed part was, when the resin cured, there are a lot of chalk powder that was not blend with resin like it didn't sink as if it wasn't mix properly, like you can scratch it and it's still a powder. I don't know why because I mix them properly and looks blending just like you too but my results was failed 😭😭
The mortar is the bowl.
What a great experiment and the results speak for themselves.
I was thinking that if you sifted the chalk with a fine sifter, then maybe you won’t get the lumps 😊
Btw, the mortar is the bowl and the the pestle is what you hold in your hand 😃
Finally a use for all the chalk powder at the bottom of the grandkids chalk bucket! Thank you Steve for being the one to take a leap of faith on this!
That’s another cool idea. I wouldn’t have thought to use chalk.
Pestle is the rounded crushing tool and mortar is the bowl. Good to know about the chalk...I liked the peachy orange bracelet.
Hard Pastel colors are one of my first ways to color resin when i first started learning , and loved the color shades they give to the pieces ( translusent).
With the sediment, they look like the very expensive paintings. Love them
bowl is the Mortar and I am loving this video
The coaster turned out really cool!
Wow I love the coaster and the depth of the pendants
The coaster is my fav! 👏👍
I really like how the coasters looked. Great idea.
Wow! The yellow turns RED with the clear resin! Mixed OR stirred! Awesome science experiment!
I love this idea. Definitely a cheaper alternative.
I love the coaster, that's such a great effect
I really like the speckled effect 🤩 you come up with some great tips and tricks 🙂😉🤔
I love watching someone do the things I would try but cant afford to waste the resin on. Thanks so much!!
It's like you've read my mind. Loving your work Steve, especially experiments like these! 👍 🥰
Really interesting! I like the coaster!😊

What an interesting idea and it worked awesome! Really cool effect.
Your videos are so practical and helpful. Thanks so much Steve.
The effects are bloomin amazing. Definitely gives an alternative new effect. Thanks Steve.
Love the sun catcher. Beautiful happy colours
Love your experiments, iv learnt so much thank you.

This is a game changer for me!! Excellent!
I never have enough of your experiments. Thank you so much. From Montréal, Quebec, 🇨🇦
Wow. Very surprising. Would never have thought of chalk but the effects are quite stunning.
I thought the gems came out beautifully! Suncatcher too, such great colors. Thanks for another fantastic idea!
That was awesome Steve! The red, blue and yellow, which turned into an orange, were gorgeous colours! What a cool way to colour resin if you want a gritty design.
This is perfect! I bought colored chalk yesterday, I will try to color resin with this later! 🤩
That's awesome. I have used charcoal powder for a more solid black. It also worked very well. ❤
This is amazing, I’m definitely going to try this
Nice idea with the chalk!! I've also tried using powdered School paints with great results.
Brilliant idea
Absolutely brilliant. I have only been working with resin for a short time, so this is a cheap option to increase my range of colours. Thank you!
That is absolutely fantastic and like you awesome when we are on a budget! Brilliant thank you for sharing 😘
I loved the coaster from the beginning. I really liked how it settled @ different levels don’t you?? It’s like you planned it all along!
Some comments made me smile but this is good to know about chalk because I have a lot I brought for my grands that they don’t use no more thank you
I thought about it, but now I will try.
Thanks.
That is crazy! Im always looking for things to expand my materials that I work with, this is cool!
Great idea! Definitely going to try this.
Love it all... Really love the fairy on the moon, Beautifull... Thanks for sharing... Stay cool, Stay safe...
Another great video with useful information. Love the results. Thanks Steve.
I was too! I wasn’t expecting to see them come out so clear 😁
Wow thanks 😊 they look awesome, I didn't think the coaster, would come out so cool awesomeness 😊

That is a brilliant way il be trying this thank you ❤️
What a fantastic idea with crayons 👍
wow Steve the chalk is really pigmented love how they turn out.
Love this idea. I am wondering if you could make the pigment paste with the part B like you do with other dried powders
Oh how fun was that!
Very nice! I love the effect! Thanks for giving it a try and helping us out. ❤️
love your videos ... i have now, thx to you, been playing with chalk .. love it blended or sprinkled ,,, looks amazing
Awesome! Thank you for this!
Love this! Have a whole box of colored chalks just sitting with no purpose, guess I'll move them into the resin section of my craft room!

Great idea !!!
This is amazing! Very impressive!!!
Wow! Love them all- very impressive x
Lovet he way they came out
Wow! I never would have thought to try this. Do you think pastels would work also?
Wow, amazing!
Those are 😍 pretty

Never thought of chalk. Great idea to your budget. One can maybe use a sif to let chalk become finer. Perhaps It works dont know but wil def try
WOW BEAUTIFUL 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽😁💯 AMAZING😁
thanks to you i use chalk a lot now ... i love the granular aspect also remember the pestle is phallic shaped p/p

That is SO COOL!
this is a great idea but you should try them with glitter because l love glitter almost as much as you do dear.
I've used both caulk and eyeshadow to color my resin and like them.

eyeshadow is mica powder just like the resin powder....it works great

Can I ask what you use to clean the resin out of the pipette? Thanks in advance.
