Winston volunteers himself to get his ass beat by higher level players so frequently that it's easy to forget that he's an absolute beast compared to most recreational players. It's nice to see him able to play full-out like this. Headband looks great, too!
I think you're definitely getting bumped to 4.0 soon enough, but the rating system is slow to adjust. Go take out some 3.5'ers for fun in a tourney a force the bump. lol
Your serve is so good. I think you win at least 2-3 more games if you hit cross court on the short & mid balls more instead of trying to go behind him every time. Make them cover more court instead of letting them off the hook!
Trey is my favorite 4.0 player with a 5.0 serve that calls himself a 3.5 bc people on the internet will try to pick him apart if he accurately calls himself a 4.0!
@@AidanBond Trey is a 3.5 only by the fact that USTA updates once a year. Last December he was a 3.5 based on results. I am sure he will be rated 4.0 next month. And he is on his way to 4.5 without a doubt.

He plays a lot of UTR - 6.3 is accurate, and that's a midrange 4.0. His serve is definitely big, but he isn't that consistent, and he can't finish points that well.
The score proves it. A 4.5 shouldn't give up a game to a 3.5, and the games that Trey won were due to his play and not mistakes by Winston. I play high 3.5/low 4.0 and I'd be TERRIFIED to see Trey on the other side of the net!
Big serves Trey! You did go for the middle a lot with your ground strokes. On all strokes you could work on placement. Great returns Winston! Your volleying seems to have improved too. Compared to Trey, it's pretty obvious where the room for improvement is.
Trey gets broken because pace is not as useful as he thinks. It can be blocked back reasonably easily. He would not be broken if he put that awesome serve form toward more spin - it is much more effective.
Very true. Once you hit a high kicker (and can control where the kick ends up), you don’t need the excessive power and will still get a lot of return errors or weak returns.
Precision beats power americans, don’t hit always hard down the middle, hit slower but constructing the point, aim for angles, this is the problem with US players, plus the weird technique also.
If Trey is a 3.5, he's surely one of the most impressive there is. Serve is unreal, and considering Winston is surely better than previous years, it makes Trey even more impressive. Awesome game boys. Cheers, M
Great stuff.. and massive improvement from the last time I saw winners-only!! Fantastic simple service motion!! And the forehand with some pop as well.. good for you man. Thanks Winston, awesome footage as always.
This was fun to watch. Great hitting and good movement! Not a 3.5 though. Maybe in the USTA computer for now but not in the real world. Big serve, good stroke technique, good movement. But, yes. too many unforced errors which is typical of players below 4.5. So, I'd say he's a 4.0.
Winston went Rambo style with that hair band! Hitting sharp winners with the fore and coming to the net. Yes mate, way to go! Well played to both of u!
Love @winners-only channel, been watching since the beginning with Trey's "Sunday Sets"; love Winston Du's channel and content! This was a great collaboration!!
May be. I just feel that he always plays higher rated players than himself so we sometimes forget what a solid player he is. Looked really comfortable today
The 6th and 7th game were probably the best to watch; Winston served really well, then finished the domination by following his serve to the ad' side, and a crisp volley winner to the open court. Then Trey sent a message he wasn't done by repeated stinger serves to go up, 40-love and then a service winner to the Ad' side., to close out the 7th game. good stuff!
Trey's post match analysis is spot on. He's so good now! He's also way more consistent, but the issue is he's just rallying. Winston takes advantage with many more of his balls, targeting corners and angles, and that's what forces the error. He's got all the tools to be great.
A little work on service placement would really help you. Seemed like almost all were mid service box. Love both your channels, Keep up the great content!!
Trey is a fairly high 3.5 or low 4.0. Could be competitive at 3.5 nationals in 6-12 months. Good serve, but needs more spin. Flat serves aren't that hard to return. Good forehand net clearance and depth, backhand needs a ton of work. Overall great progress in a short period of time!
I've got a big serve (where I play at least) and I know the feeling - if the opponent simply is able to return it, it's quite deflating and can easily lead to losing points. Winston was returning really well in this match. Y'all made me nervous when it started raining though! Maybe just looked like more on camera than it really was. Anyway, thanks for the match, great job both!
You and Trey both played well. For a 3.5 Trey had some solid shots. Although his consistency was a little off, with practice he will be as good as you. You had some great shots. You may not have hit your shots wider than you could have, but you placed your shots in the right direction. There was a time in the middle of the set, that you didn't hit through your shots, and hit it into the net, but you picked it up during the last few games. You had some really wicked kick second serves.
I assumed I would be the only one that noticed this. WINSTON HAD SEVERAL SUCCESSFUL MID COURT WINNERS AND VOLLEYS AT THE NET. I wonder if he is preparing to become a s/v’er. Would be great to see that against the 5.0’s+. As soon as his serve and groundstroke hits a corner angle if he is sprinting to the net he may end up with a slew of volley winners as his opponents stay several feet behind the baseline, there won’t be able to reach the volley he drops over the net.
He really made Trey pay for those shorter balls by attacking them with pace, resulting in those winners and volleys. I haven’t noticed that much from Winston either but to be fair he usually plays played higher rated than him and they don’t put balls back near the service line like Trey did today.
He doesn't play much USTA and therefore hasn't gotten bumped. On his channel it's UTR tournaments and friendly matches. He played three 3.5 singles matches in 2023 and lost all three, and played one 4.0 match this year and won it. That shows his improvement, but you're not getting bumped playing four matches in two years.
Haven't watched ur vids for a yr or so. Your shots r much more crisp winston. meaning more pace and control even under duress at times. Forehand and serve especially U have grown in the past yrs W ur definitely deadly now
These comments are comforting. I've considered myself around a 4.0, maybe 4.5 with consistent play, since that's what my coaches told me I should be playing at in high school. After seeing this match I was like "Shiiiii* maybe I'm really a weak 3.5..." LOL
It’s part of the beginners mentality that pace is the be-all and end-all thing in tennis. With both the serve and ground strokes pace without accuracy and intelligent placement is pointless once you play a competent opponent. Everyone marvels at Isners pace but look how often he put those serves on or near a line. Trey puts most of his servers into Winston’s wheel house. Winston was probably salivating at the opportunities Trey was giving him to look good. 😂
You can see the momentum carry over after Trey's 4 straight unreturned serves. I thought he hit the best groundstrokes the following game when he broke Winston.
Trey's serve is nice! I think he's going to need more variety in the serve to take Winston. Kick wide just to gain good position on the court and look to end the point on the 3rd ball instead of always hoping Winston can't return it.
A lot of self rated "park 4.0's" are swallowing their ego right now and saying he's 4.0. Trey's serve is just massive. His movement/positioning hurts his groundstroke consistency a lot, but he's looking very solid. Ready to break into 4.0 soon.
Big serves were fun to watch. I wish Trey did something after he hit them though, rather than standing a few feet inside the baseline and waiting for a short ball. He lost quite a few points because Winston was able to get the return deep. And on the topic, Winston turned out to be the aggressor more often than Trey because of a better return game, a better net game, and lots of short balls by Trey. Often keeping the ball deep is better than hittting the ball harder.
Whenever I wonder if Winston could actually beat a 3.5, Trey comes to play nearly the exact same match for the third time. Even the thumbnail made me think this was a reupload 😂. In seriousness, props to Trey for making 3.5s look better than we actually are. 5-1 happened in the blink of an eye
I have watched several Winners-Only matches. Surely he is above a 3.5 level. I think his game will improve when he gets a little more confident with putting pace on angled shots and attacks the net much more, especially since most opponents have to block his serve back and it just floats
I think this might be the first time I’ve ever seen you hit an ace in one of your matches Winston. You played well. Trey made quite a few errors, and his serve really wasn’t on in this video.
I wish Solinco would sell that blue string. I normally use hyper g or confidential but I preferred the blue prototype string. Any idea if they plan to sell it in the future?
Trey for me is already a 4.0, mainly because of his serve that is a 5.0 serve. But a good serve need a good follow up shot or else doesn’t give much advantage Now Trey backhand really need some development
@Winners-Only 1st serve percentage is crazy good. Thats the thing that won you points. Gotta try to hit angles with your forehand and move your opponent. Cant beat a 4.0+ player just feeding balls back to him in the middle of the court.
Grinding is the key to greatness. Most likely you won't be able to overpower stronger players, so grinding is a necessity when playing against one. Serve is a big weapon, but it's not a reliable weapon, and often leaves when you need it the most, such as late in the match when you need to stay a live. There was a bit of that in your last serving game here. Furthermore, your opponent will get better at reading your serve as the match goes on which makes it even less effective. While, grinding is like a dog 🐶. Sometimes, it won't be able to save you, but will be there with you to the bitter end!
Trey has improved significantly since the last time he played you. I think he needs to hit his balls deeper with more power to be competitive with higher levels
One thing I notice is Winston's camera. Not sure what lens and angle he uses but now that I've seen a few crossovers, shots and serves looks faster on Winston camera than shots from the same players on other channels.
3.5? He got 5.0 serve, 4.5 ground stroke, 3.0 game plan, with appropriate training and more games, he will be above 4.5 in a year, Potential? bigger than Winston.
Working on his balance and court positioning could def make a meaningful impact. Hitting the big serves but then not in place to hit a great next ball, then Winston is able to push him back and set him on defense instead of the other way around. No way u hit those serves and then playing defense.
Winston volunteers himself to get his ass beat by higher level players so frequently that it's easy to forget that he's an absolute beast compared to most recreational players. It's nice to see him able to play full-out like this. Headband looks great, too!

3.5? He got 5.0 serve, 4.5 ground stroke, 3.0 game plan, with appropriate training and more games, he will be above 4.5 in a year, Potential? bigger than Winston.
I saw treys video play 4,0 tournaments so he should be 4.0 when rating come out next month.
Now you need to play Beckett from TennCom and Jonas from Tennisnerd
Service game from 8:14 had bullets
Working on his balance and court positioning could def make a meaningful impact. Hitting the big serves but then not in place to hit a great next ball, then Winston is able to push him back and set him on defense instead of the other way around. No way u hit those serves and then playing defense.
Can include the weight of the rackets?
Trey could have a more reliable serve if his toss was a little bit higher. Quite a few double faults were due to his low toss style.
