Timelash with New VFX (re-edit) (Classic Doctor Who)

- This is just a re-edited compilation of the effects shots I did last year for Timelash, but rendered and reuploaded in HD (and without the CRT surround). There didn't seem much point in sprucing up any of the effects since it's getting the optional VFX treatement on the Season 22 bluray (which looked mighty familiar in that trailer! ;-)).
I think I might have finally figured out how to upload these clips without triggering the TH-cam copyright bot, so might reupload some of my other vids without the CRT surrounds.

Well, the boxset is out and someone has already done the comparisons between the original effects and the new VFX so I've had a gander and had another look at yours.
Yours is better. Certain scenes in the new VFX may look good, but so many others that you did look better. The inside of the Timelash that you did looks leaps and bounds better.
Thanks! Yeah, I really like the more glittery effect they have for the Timelash, as it matches up more with the original, and the tunnel effect is great (although I notice that's changed from the original trailer which had a more kaleidoscopic effect similar to mine!).
But I agree that the inside of the Timelash is a bit disappointing, although it does mask the tinsel quite well and I like the prismatic effect they used to highlight the crystals.

0:19 isn't that the same effect from your resurrection of the daleks video tinted a diffrent color? Or is it diffrent.
Same one! I figured they're effectively different flavours of the same thing (ie a time tunnel)

What are your thoughts on Season 22 updated effects on Timelash?
I thought they were great on the whole. It was an odd decision to make the kontron tunnel visible in the Timelash, since people fall downwards into it, but it looked awesome. The two guys that have been doing the updated effects most recently on the boxsets are brilliant. They've hit the right balance between being respectful to the era and doing decent VFX and CG
The main problem right now is that they should be doing ALL the stories, not just one per season!
Your Timelash effect is superior to the blu-ray as it works with the physical action of falling down into a vortex - it's not supposed to be a tunnel like the blu-ray version.
Thanks. Yeah, I can see why they used the same tunnel effect as when you see it on the TARDIS scanner, but you're right, it doesn't make sense since people are falling downwards. And then of course the Doctor actually climbs down.
So the Timelash itself is more of a doorway rather than a 'portal'. But it always bothered me as to where the actual tunnel is, and just presumed it's at the bottom of the pit, which is really the only place it can be!
Why bother? The greatest FX in the universe could not improve this appalling mess of a story.
Believe me, if I'd have known the BBC were going to update the VFX themselves I definitely wouldn't have bothered! 😂
