Thanks for the updated view of FLL, Martin. I worked as an airport firefighter at FLL for 32 years. Haven't been on the field since 2012 and the new R/W, 10R. It was interesting to see it from an aerial approach. Watching you taxi across the field brought back a lot of memories.

That building you pointed out on approach is the new Hard Rock hotel they are building. It is supposed to be in the shape of a guitar. Really loved the video by the way, and was so happy to see my home airport and MY HOUSE! Lol
Hi Martin, I like the way you put the instructions from ATC on screen as sometimes they are not to clear, other times they are, but this is a great help. I also like the way you describe what you have done, about to do etc. Love flying with you. Stay safe up there. Glad you both enjoyed your break away. Shame we didn't see the old lane the Mrs commented about, but we can't expect you to not put safety first and show us everything when the camera is not pointing in the right direction. That Guitar is the Hollywood Hard Rock Hotel and I lived 5 mins down the street from there as a kid, it was nothing but alligator wrestling and a cheap place to buy cigarettes and booze back then;) I go for my Private Pilot Checkride on the 13th of next month and I can't wait to do these trips as well! Keep flying:)

Martin, I've been enjoying your videos over the last few months while I've been stuck on the ground! Thanks for answering the "why you land at big airports" question. I have been meaning to ask you for a while. I generally land at the smaller airports on the outskirts for the cheaper gas, fees, etc. but there is something to be said for the conveniences of the larger airports. We're flying in our Cherokee Six through Ft Lauderdale to Nassau in October and looking forward to the international adventure/challenges!
That "old plane" is a Beech 18 with the volpar conversion for the tricycle gear. Tell Mrs. Becky we said hi and that while the Everglades may be pretty it's full of stuff that will sting you, bite you, and eat you. But I know she knows that. Can't wait till the company dumps those ten's and eleven's but it won't be anytime soon. Those number two engines may be cool to look at but they are one MAJOR PAIN to work in. Glad you enjoyed the trip I'd of stroked out over the FBO bill but then again not near as bad as Boston.
Hey Mike, glad to see you chime in on the Beech 18 and the DC-10 - or did they get converted to an MD-10? You are right about the glades. An engine failure in that area would not have been fun. In June we'll come back to Tennessee for the BeechTalk fly-in. All the best, Martin

Great story telling... very interesting optics, in clear air you could see visible moisture in the prop and trailing edge of wing. No icing obviously, but prime example how you can have moisture with no clouds. Thank you Martin
If you do decide to take 0TB to the Bahamas then I recommend going to Banyan Pilot Shop at FXE. They can help you with the paperwork and can rent you a raft, inflatable jackets, a PLB, and any other equipment you may not have. Also, bring cash. They take USD and some of the smaller islands don't have ATMs or take cards.

If you ever go back to the area, maybe try North Perry. Gas is a lot cheaper and it is about the same distance to Hollywood from FLL. Although the drive down the A1A is nicer coming from FLL.
@Enteraname yeah..no doubt... I suppose it depends on how far you are flying and where... quick 45 minute flights will be cheaper than commercial... but longer flights can be more expensive. EnjoY!
You are correct in that a commercial flight would have been cheaper than flying the Bonanza. But like any hobbies, I fly not to save money, but because I love doing it. That's a different angle when it comes to the expenses. Further, on this particular trip I went to the Sun 'n Fun fly-in on the way back. Hi Murray. Two reasons I did not do that on this flight: (1) I could tell from the radio and from ADS-B "in" how many airplanes they were trying to get in on 10L; I think I would have gotten in the way. (2) For the videos in particular l do like the longer, more "scenic" taxi routes, and I knew landing on 10R would provide just that. So it worked out great for me. Of course, if you're just trying to land and get to the Jetscape FBO, then yes, the northern runway is much better. All the best, Martin
Hi Cameron, FXE would probably have been cheaper for parking, but the fuel I bought was less expensive at FLL than at FXE. Overall I think it was pretty close, with maybe a slight advantage for FXE. Having said that, I love the experience at large, busy airports, and FLL was a bit closer to our destination on the ground. Best regards, Martin

I have A36 just bought 1991, I know you had one time a gear problem and you had to crank it manually, well I had gear issue myself but the opposite, gears won’t retract , recycled circuit breaker fuse twice still green lights no retraction ! I’m having it checked. My question is : what was the issue with yours? Have you heard of overheated gear motor? I was practicing approaches and trying to manage power settings with gear up & down (about 7 times over 1 hour practice) was told that might happen ...curious to know ?! Thx again .. 🙏🏻❤️
Jamil, the first thing I'd do is put the plane up on jacks, move the gear lever to "up", and see if the gear motor gets power. If it does, it's time to overhaul the gear motor. Otherwise, it might be the switch or the wiring. Practicing approaches the way you did is the right way. A working gear motor in good shape should do this without problems. Regards, Martin
Are those the new Bose in-ear headsets? My understanding was that they work well mostly in pressurized aircraft and that the A20s should be used instead for small aircraft.
Good guess, but no. They ARE in-ear, but they're called 'Halo', made by QuietTechnologies. They are similar to the Clarity Aloft. They have very good attenuation, unlike the Bose which as you said is more designed for a jet environment. Regards, Martin

Do you just keep turning on and off your camera throughout the duration or do you use some kind of external power source and have them powered for the whole trip? Hi Derrek, the GoPros can take external power while recording, through a USB charging cable. For any long recordings, I keep them powered this way, using little power bricks for USB power. That has worked really well for me. Regards, Martin
It's on hold, pending completion of my commercial certificate. I just passed the written this morning. Need to schedule the check ride. After that, I'll complete the multi-engine rating; that way I get the multi add-on for both private and commercial. - Martin
Ruben, I used an ND filter on this flight, but on the really bright, sunny days, you can still see a little bit of the propeller artifacts. To my knowledge, there is no small (let alone affordable) camera with global shutter, so all we can do is try to control exposure and limit the effect. Regards, Martin

(2) For the videos in particular l do like the longer, more "scenic" taxi routes, and I knew landing on 10R would provide just that. So it worked out great for me.
Of course, if you're just trying to land and get to the Jetscape FBO, then yes, the northern runway is much better.

Very interesting, would it be cheaper to land at FXE? I feel like the busy airspace at FLL would make it more difficult
Hi Cameron, FXE would probably have been cheaper for parking, but the fuel I bought was less expensive at FLL than at FXE. Overall I think it was pretty close, with maybe a slight advantage for FXE. Having said that, I love the experience at large, busy airports, and FLL was a bit closer to our destination on the ground.

Regarding charging: yes, on longer flights I use USB charging cables to keep the batteries full during the flight. I do that with a USB power brick - works really well.

I have A36 just bought 1991, I know you had one time a gear problem and you had to crank it manually, well I had gear issue myself but the opposite, gears won’t retract , recycled circuit breaker fuse twice still green lights no retraction ! I’m having it checked. My question is : what was the issue with yours? Have you heard of overheated gear motor? I was practicing approaches and trying to manage power settings with gear up & down (about 7 times over 1 hour practice) was told that might happen ...curious to know ?!

Jamil, the first thing I'd do is put the plane up on jacks, move the gear lever to "up", and see if the gear motor gets power. If it does, it's time to overhaul the gear motor. Otherwise, it might be the switch or the wiring.
Practicing approaches the way you did is the right way. A working gear motor in good shape should do this without problems.

Are those the new Bose in-ear headsets? My understanding was that they work well mostly in pressurized aircraft and that the A20s should be used instead for small aircraft.
Good guess, but no. They ARE in-ear, but they're called 'Halo', made by QuietTechnologies. They are similar to the Clarity Aloft. They have very good attenuation, unlike the Bose which as you said is more designed for a jet environment.

Great video Martin. Was that yellow amphibian parked over at jetscape the same Pilatus that we saw at Sun and Fun? Bobby from flying Doodles did a video on the plane, and I believe he did it in fort Lauderdale so just curious if you made the same connection

Another great video Martin. I have a quick question though. How do you power your camera's in flight? Do you just keep turning on and off your camera throughout the duration or do you use some kind of external power source and have them powered for the whole trip? And if you do use a external power source, what do you use for that?

Hi Derrek, the GoPros can take external power while recording, through a USB charging cable. For any long recordings, I keep them powered this way, using little power bricks for USB power. That has worked really well for me.

It's on hold, pending completion of my commercial certificate. I just passed the written this morning. Need to schedule the check ride. After that, I'll complete the multi-engine rating; that way I get the multi add-on for both private and commercial.

Isn't there a good camera with global shutter for your front view to get rid of this bloody artefacts/flickering of your propeller? 🤔
Ruben, I used an ND filter on this flight, but on the really bright, sunny days, you can still see a little bit of the propeller artifacts. To my knowledge, there is no small (let alone affordable) camera with global shutter, so all we can do is try to control exposure and limit the effect.

@@martinpauly well, the cheapest camera with global shutter is the Blackmagic Micro Cinema, which would record also with a much higher dynamic range than your current setup. Maybe worth considering in the future :)
