      Using a silent shooting mode on your camera if possible helps. Also, if hold the camera up before someone moves into the frame and then continue to hold it up to your eye after you've made your shot and they've walked through. Almost like you're waiting for them to pass to take the photo even though you've already taken it. They will be less sure that you've taken a photo of them and will be less likely to confront you.

      AliOfNeverland what helps me is to put on earphones/headphones. For whatever reason I feel like there is a social barrier when I put them on, it feels less personal and people are less likely to confront. Especially if you act like your on a phone call with someone lol

    Depending what country you live in, but in the US you can legally take a photo as far as the eye can see from a public easement (sidewalk). Nobody should expect to leave the house without being on a camera now days

    I’m trying to see the value of shots of random people walking through the frame. I think of the great city photos of the past where you got a sense of the culture and the architecture of the era. I guess I just don’t feel that same sense of history in shots like these. I wouldn’t know what to do with them. Just my opinion, of course.

  • @AndreaLanx
    @AndreaLanx 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great video! I'm just starting my X100F journey and the amount of suggestions I find here on TH-cam is baffling me. Some suggest RAW over JPEG, some greatly avoid A priority in favor of only shooting manual, some strongly criticize single-point AF or spot metering and others swear by them. So my question is: what settings do you feel most comfortable shooting with? Cheers

    • @FaizalWestcott
      @FaizalWestcott  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you! Yup, everyone is going to say something different, and I probably will too. It all boils down to what works best for you. I find that I like to have full control so I shoot manual, but if I want to let my camera do more of the work I'll switch to Aperature priority. Usually I stick to spot metering and I always shoot RAW because I know I am going to edit myself. PS: I got a video on this coming out tomorrow :)

    I generally find a location I like grab a coffee and wait in the area for a while until some I like passes by then I pre-focus lift the camera to my eye well before they enter the frame shoot then continue looking through the view finder well after they've passed by. Another thing I use when walking is to shoot from the hip, it's a bit hit and miss but the results from the low angle can be awesome. I've only been challenged once shooting into the light the subject was back lit he knew I'd taken a shot and went ape shit at me, I told him what I was doing showed him the shot and offered to send it to him, he just continued to be a dick so I deleted it. Shame it was a nice shot and he was in total silhouette. I could have argued my point but hey why bother. I carry a few business cards with me too with my youtube and insta addresses that way anyone has a dig or is just curious I hand them a card and offer to send them their photo. People are generally flattered that I thought they were worth a shot. I find street photography a confidence thing if I'm low I struggle if I'm feeling good it flows.
