The reason for it is we percieve time by comparison, fraction, ratio of our total time spent alive. When we're 2 years old, a year is half of our lives. So it subjectively takes a long time to pass. When we're 50, a year is a 50th of our total lifespan. So it seems short.
A good thing about this for me is that when I get older I have more patience for things that take time - and those things tend to be more rewarding. When I was younger I used to get frustrated if something took more than a few minutes to cook.

I don't actually see it that way. It only feels like yesterday when I think of a single moment during the past...yet the more I recollect, the more I begin to realise that there are millions of different memories locked inside my mind, and a kalidascope of amazing things that I've already done...so many experiences that I can only wonder how I managed to fit them all in during such a short 66 years. The ying & yang of life...with no regrets.
I don't feel less mentally or physically able than I was as a young lad 🌱...simply because the boy inside remains alive...and I'm still fit and strong.
We all turn to dust in the end, so happiness means far more than longevity. It is not what we HAVE that matters most, but what we have DONE.

I'm glad I had children later in life, it gives you a perception of being younger. Now at 62 my children are only just becoming adults when some friends of my age have grandchildren their age. Yes, time does appear to go much faster as you get older, faster and faster, but you have to be more concerned with keeping fit and healthy than worrying about your age, after all, if you are alive the number will just keep going up, there's no point in worrying about it.

Fifty-five years is just over 20,000 days; that's how long you've been alive, so when you take it from that perspective 20,000 days, you have to realize something during that time: you may have had an off day, you may have had an hour, you may have had something happen in a minute, and you thought oh my god my life has just ended and then after several days the situation that you found yourself in that minute that day that our perspective of it changes 55 years is and the matter of fact a long time when you break it down into days you realize to yourself you're never wasted one single day.
8000 days is 21 years, approximately 10.000 days, just over 27 years. 50 is only 19.262 days.

aww, bless you. I agree and approve this message. Our culture/society denigrates older age because it wants people to disavow it, though it's the most natural thing in the world. But it can be liberating! So since it's something we all do (or will) have in common, why not embrace it? With your very wholesome attitude you need not fear. It will stand you in good stead.

I think life appears faster as you get older because they always say time flies when you're having fun... Life should be more fun... If you lived a life with a bit more joy then no one would need holidays... Everything's packaged up in time for you...0 - 5 at home or nursery, 5 - 18 school, 18 - 21 college/uni/apprenticeships, mortgages, children x lol x as you get older you realise what's important and spend time on your joy.... I've always worked to live, but instead of chasing material stuff and money I chose to do jobs I enjoyed... I had a choice when my boy was diagnosed with autism, either look after him myself, give up my jobs, or hand that responsibility to the state and have a team of strangers dictate to me what I could and couldn't do?... I chose the former... Turned everything upside down... Way I looked at it I was just putting my life on hold while I got my son used to life... We've had tears, but we've had far more laughter... My joy is my garden, I'm very creative, so I like to change things each year, on little to no budget.. Love upcycling and am currently in the middle of painting the kitchen and hallway... I've learned a lot of minor trades over the years... purely due to a low budget, the housing will cover maintenance and repairs, but decoration is down to tennant, and as soon as you freshen up one area, everything else looks grubby and the cycle continues... Eat the nice foods, try the nice drinks, life's far too short xxx

If a twenty year old could look through the eyes of a 55yr old, then their life would fall into perspective.
They would be more grounded and achieve more balance and calmness.
I am 58 and and feel the tranquility of life each day. Yes, there are still the same stresses and bad news each day on tv, but you realise you are an individual and in charge of your own space around you.
