One thing for you to note Tom, I have a leather strap that holds x2 bullets and wraps around the forend, so you can pull it out and reload very fast with a kipplauf. You may have seen these before.
I’m the glad owner of a K95. All of a rifle one needs. Plus: it’s takedown ( traveling comfort ) and you can swap calibers. Mine is in .308Win, I shoot SAKO 160grs blade leadfree and a moderator is mounted on the 50 cm barrel. It groups within 15 mm at 100m. The woodland combo. Exchange barrel is in 7x65R 60 cm long plus screw-on 3 cm titanium muzzle brake for longrange. It shots 18 mm with a leadfree 110 grs SAX KJG. This round will sufficiently do in open country and mountains till 300 meters. With a bit of training quick follow up shots are possible. Train the process of reloading till it’s „into flesh and blood“ and you can release a well placed 2 nd shot within 8 seconds. A rimmed cartridge reloads even quicker as you simply can let the fired case fall out of the chamber. Already managed to take two roe out of a bunch of four. Want to add that a sound moderator reduces recoil about two thirds on these lightweight rifles so a moderator is something to consider.
Been doing the absolute majority of my hunting for the past 20+ years with an o/u Merkel combination gun in 20ga/7x57R. Love the one shot mentality. Just this autumn I've taken 11 fallow and 1 roe deer with that gun. Now looking to get a Merkel K5 as I never use the shotgun barrel anyway. Do I need a kipplauf? No. Do I crave one? Oh yes. Which of course is silly, because they do come at a price. Oh well.
@@TheDeercast Just wish that Merkel would get back to me regarding both mine and my gun dealers inquiry about getting a left hand stock. So far only crickets. Quite frustrating tbh.
@@TheDeercast Finally! Was at the dealers today, deciding on the exact model. Will be a K5 Black (56 cm barrel) , left hand stock with grade 5 wood, 7x57R, topped with a Kahles 3,3-10x50 1" tube scope. 6-10 months out before it will be delivered, but will be here for next season. Price? About the same as a good quality used car....
I’ve been looking at a kipplauf for the last six months wondering if I should go down this route or not…kinda seems like the rifleman’s equivalent to bow hunting in many ways.
With all the idiosyncrasies of using the rifle and the fact it’s a one shot deal , is this really a suitable rifle for deer culling with the lack of a quick follow up shot ? It is z fantastic looking rifle
@@dianacarroll8860 if you’re a competent shot, yes! You’ll see from some of our videos that Tom manages multiple Fallow out of large groups using his Kipplauf.
Very nice Tom - looking for to getting out with them when mine arrives 👍🏼
