This game was such a big part of my childhood. Me and my best friend played all 162 games of 9 inning games during the summer months. I recently just got this game back with a slew of others from the friend I sold all my n64 stuff to 10 years ago. He gave it all back to me for free I was so excited to get the stuff I opened up during countless birthdays and Christmas ' s
I am from the Caribbean DR. We love baseball you eat and breathe baseball.. the ASB series was the best, after Ken Griffey baseball for the snes, the best baseball game for the n64..
Big part of my childhood over here mate. I def remember spending countless hours obsess with this game. No internet. Just everyday excited to play this game whenever it was an ugly day outside because it was such a fun game for me to play haha. I do remember it being extremely slow with no excitement and wondered why they had the players run so slow around the bases after hitting a homer haha. Funniest thing in the world. I seriously forgot about that. Thanks for this nostalgic memory mate.
Ken Griffey Jr was my game growing up and i still remember that opening, if you never herd the intro you need to look it up its amazingly 90s and gets you pumped for the game. i remember the cheat to make the all players swim in the air but never seen it on youtube. someone needs to get on that!
I'm not a baseball fan but I absolutely loved this game, there's nothing better then having the bases loaded and smashing a home run and getting 4 players home. The controls were great and quite simple and it helped that the pads c-buttons were laid out like the baseball diamond,it made knowing where to throw the ball so much easier when in the field. So glad you've reviewed this Glenn its brought back some great memories.
My favorite baseball game on any console of all time. I spent hundreds... nay.... thousands of hours building the perfect team and trying to pitch a perfect game. I accomplished a perfect game twice and had a couple of no-hitters. This is the best of console baseball games, and I am actually contemplating buying an N64 right now just to play this game.
N64 Glenn Plant, First time on your channel. I played this game when I was a teen and still own it. So many greats in this era of Baseball. Big names: Randy Johnson ( 103+ Fastball ), Mark McGuire ( 70 Home Runs ), B. Bonds w/ the Pirates, Jeff Bagwell, Craig Biggio, Chuck Knoblauch, Piazza ....man, everything from our generation. Perfect. Pick this up or MLB Ft . KGJr. The MLB game is cartoonish a bit but you will enjoy it if that was your first baseball game. Thank you for the channel NGP.
Good review, I really enjoyed this game when the N64 was still new. Oh and I found your TH-cam page a couple days ago and am on a marathon watching all the videos and loving them. Keep up the great work!
ConsoleGeek ha thank you so much, thankfully theres a lot of content for you to hopefully enjoy already up here now - plus theres always one or two more videos a week
The one thing that really impressed me the most was the option to do a fantasy draft. Stats! I was impressed on the way stats are kept all season. They even show All-Star vote standings through out the 1st half of the season.
This game was wonderful. the batting and control were amazing. The ability to slide to certain parks of the base to avoid the tag was amazing. if you slide and hold the direction to the bottom left corner the player will slide and grab the back of the base to avoid the tag. I loved replaying that. still to this day I dont know a game that has this feature.
As a baseball fan that played ASB 99 many times...the realism was cool, I always wished it would have had the flare that the MLB with Ken Griffey Jr. games had.
I am a big baseball fan and this game still worth a play, the player drafts needed some work you could draft a super team by drafting all the best players of the time with no restriction at all and go on smash any team. Also to note with it takes up entire first party game pak for just one game
Technically solid games like ASB 99 don't always age well which makes it seem boring in comparison to Ken Griffey from the same year. Acclaim also seemed to improve yearly with their sports games and ASB is no exception, making 99 solid but not as tight or polished as 2000 or 2001
I think it holds up almost as good as today's standards the 64 completely always amazes me best console great video respect from Macedonian in Australia
That game you find buttloads of at every retro games retailer. it's almost like Super Mario/Duck Hunt. Now why couldn't Acclaim have this studio or the studio behind Turok, make the WWF and ECW games?
All Star Baseball 2001 was easily a worse game than the 99 version. The batting interface was so much more fun and I would even argue the graphics and animations were better.
All Star Baseball 2000, which is the one I own, I think was better than 99. The players seem more animated in their reactions and the crowd roars more in the game.
Noliving yeah its like most sports games though the latest one is usually the best, very rarely does a series take a step back but fifa have done it a few times
I remember when my dad bought this game. I wasn't really into baseball at the time but I would stillI play with my dad occasionally. He was pretty into it playing fully into season mode. Gotta love the catchy menu music though! Was the music playing during the review the music from the game? Don't quite remember that track.
I never really like baseball games (or baseball itself) except on wii sport (so fun), so when it was about sports game on N64 based on this sport, I was not interested, and at this time I still not tested any one. But the system to launch / hit the ball seems quite interesting and so you convincted me to look for this game at my reseller right now ;) Graphics are impressive, high resolution is very smooth and movement seems nice !
Hmmmm, I wonder how this game compares to Major League Baseball Featuring Ken Griffey, Jr. on the N64. It was released only a month after this game according to GameFAQS and also got great review scores. One thing I can confidently say, N64 sports games definitely looked better than PS1 sports games. I remember being totally disappointed with how NFL Blitz looked on the PS1 compared to the N64 version. The N64 version looked smooth and had no loading times while the PS1 version was so full of jaggies that I kept thinking my copy was defective and exchanged it a couple of times as a kid. Not to mention the loading times that took away from the action.
Personally I preferred Ken Griffey Baseball. It was quality. All Star looked better but I had more fun with MLBKGJ. Like Glenn said arcade vs simulation...
I did played a bit of both games, this one and Key Griffey Jr., and while I enjoyed both i felt that All Star Baseball was a bit more hardcore fans oriented. Anyway this is fun, addictive, lot of options and so, but in terms of baseball n64 games, just avoid EA's Triple Play and you will be fine.
Never liked baseball either but did enjoy triple play baseball on the ps1 this looks better than that the core batting game looks really fun not sure how much fun it would be to pitch tho. Shame it's rather lifeless even if it's highly textured. Another great video mate your in a roll
I remember playing a baseball game on the N64 back in the day which I enjoyed to some extent. But it's not this and I don't think it was Ken Griffey Jr either, maybe you might have some idea which it is? Great review as always mate.
***** Man I have never been so wrong, turns out it was Ken Griffey Jr Baseball after all! Can't blame me since it truly has been ages since I played it, and I never quite got the name of the game back then.
If I remember reading correctly in Gamepro Magazine at the time, they just released a 2nd batch with the bug fix, I don't think they did a recall of the games already sold.
a lot of game flaws or so-so features can be over looked if the game plays well. I had to rent this as a kid and had a great time with iit.I don't remember any gameplay issues and the memory wasn't an issue cause I rented it and didn't know about that flaw til this review
I have one of the many "bad copy's" of wwf no mercy for example. the fixed copy's of no mercy have the code nus-nw4e-usa-1 on the bottom of the front label and cant find a copy ANYWERE.
A small nitpick: the music in this review is the menu music from All Star Baseball 2000. All Star 99 had a bizarre industrial-ish menu tune. Great review otherwise!
aah dats a bummer right, Ok I got it on Coolrom site when the GB adv, games lists we re still available for me the game looks superb and Im always amazed by the power of gb advance )) I bet its around on cartridges for not to much money.. )))) unfortunately the n64 emulator doesnt work so smooth as other emuls. me n my lil bro spend hoursnhours playing on Sega Genesis n N64,PS1 ,DReamcast,PS2 then I stopped buying consoles and turned to PC FPS games like Quake 3,Quakelive still play that if theres time I launch Public server for 16 players Free for all or Capture the flag online))) You should come and play a few matches some time))) GRtz Julio

Michael Crowe oh wow thats a super awesome memory! thanks for sharing :)
@NickatNight210 I'd also like to see full reviews of this franchise!
That's so awesome that he did that.
Woww I’m sure you took a long time to finished the season
I am from the Caribbean DR. We love baseball you eat and breathe baseball.. the ASB series was the best, after Ken Griffey baseball for the snes, the best baseball game for the n64..

hardtranceismylife ill try to cover off the occasional sports title from time to time, heck theres enough of them!
One of my favorite games, my brother and I always switched to the smaller/power reticle.
N64 Glenn Plant,
First time on your channel.

+Schoeffeur welcome! And an unusual choice of game to start watching!
Good review, I really enjoyed this game when the N64 was still new.

The hitting gameplay was the best I've seen so far. I love this hidden throw concept and how the dot appears moments before the ball strikes the zone.
The batting was awesome
As a baseball fan that played ASB 99
many times...the realism was cool,
I always wished it would have had the
flare that the MLB with Ken Griffey Jr. games had.
Bullet Club Biggz yeah KG was a lot more action packed and stylish
I am a big baseball fan and this game still worth a play, the player drafts needed some work you could draft a super team by drafting all the best players of the time with no restriction at all and go on smash any team. Also to note with it takes up entire first party game pak for just one game
Michael Boland yeah some of these sports games on the console are nuts for doing that!
Technically solid games like ASB 99 don't always age well which makes it seem boring in comparison to Ken Griffey from the same year. Acclaim also seemed to improve yearly with their sports games and ASB is no exception, making 99 solid but not as tight or polished as 2000 or 2001
I played the hell out of all the All-Star baseball games back in the day. They had soooo many bugs but I loved them nonetheless.
When I was a kid, there was a pitcher from the UK who played for the Cardinals. I don't think there's been a player from the UK since.
+josh that’s so cool but I bet he grew up in the US though....I couldn’t name a single place here in the UK to play baseball
His name is Lance Painter. He had limited success in the major leagues. I believe he coached the UK national team for a while after retirement.
an old favorite. still play occasionally
acclaim made a lot of stupid things back in the day, but it will always have a special place in my heart. Also the iguana
I think it holds up almost as good as today's standards the 64 completely always amazes me best console great video respect from Macedonian in Australia
Personally 2005 Was The Best Iteration Graphics Wise
That game you find buttloads of at every retro games retailer. it's almost like Super Mario/Duck Hunt.
Now why couldn't Acclaim have this studio or the studio behind Turok, make the WWF and ECW games?
Orion Ake good question really..i guess their schedules crossed etc
Is this better than the n64 all star baseball 2000?
All Star Baseball 2001 was easily a worse game than the 99 version. The batting interface was so much more fun and I would even argue the graphics and animations were better.
this was a great baseball game the only thing that annoyed me is the pitcher stamina...even a total workhorse was out of gas by 70 pitches
All Star Baseball 2000, which is the one I own, I think was better than 99. The players seem more animated in their reactions and the crowd roars more in the game.
Noliving yeah its like most sports games though the latest one is usually the best, very rarely does a series take a step back but fifa have done it a few times
I didn't like all star baseball 2001 on the n64, mainly because I didn't like the theme song nor the menu design.
I remember when my dad bought this game. I wasn't really into baseball at the time but I would stillI play with my dad occasionally. He was pretty into it playing fully into season mode. Gotta love the catchy menu music though! Was the music playing during the review the music from the game? Don't quite remember that track.
wiiviewsnumba1fan the track is actually from 2000 id i remember correctly :) i couldn't find much for this game music wise
I never really like baseball games (or baseball itself) except on wii sport (so fun), so when it was about sports game on N64 based on this sport, I was not interested, and at this time I still not tested any one. But the system to launch / hit the ball seems quite interesting and so you convincted me to look for this game at my reseller right now ;)
Graphics are impressive, high resolution is very smooth and movement seems nice !
ASB 2000 and MLB 2k8: Baseball perfected for their respective times...
Lokani Entertainment ill try to cover off the rest of the asb series over the next year or so :)
i love baseball and this game is amazing I'm a Dodgers fan I thought in the UK there is organised baseball cheers
GhostBlade indeed I'm not sure id i mentioned that in the review i did of blitz a year or so ago now
Personally I preferred Ken Griffey Baseball. It was quality. All Star looked better but I had more fun with MLBKGJ. Like Glenn said arcade vs simulation...

Hey Glenn, did you work for N64 magazine as an editor as such in the day?
The Zelda force no although it would have been my dream job if you asked me then!
I still love that mag, its also sad the official nintendo magazine has been discontinued
The Zelda force yeah although i always preferred n64 magazine...hence why i have the n64 magazine time capsule series :)
another great review Glenn, still don't understand baseball! the only BB game I play is all star or 2020 on the AES
TootyUk I've not played that...wouldnt mind an AES though :)
Never liked baseball either but did enjoy triple play baseball on the ps1 this looks better than that the core batting game looks really fun not sure how much fun it would be to pitch tho. Shame it's rather lifeless even if it's highly textured. Another great video mate your in a roll
Ollie Martin wait till you see this weekends BIG review :)
I remember playing a baseball game on the N64 back in the day which I enjoyed to some extent. But it's not this and I don't think it was Ken Griffey Jr either, maybe you might have some idea which it is?
Great review as always mate.
CrazyMetroid mike piazzas strike zone perhaps :)
***** Man I have never been so wrong, turns out it was Ken Griffey Jr Baseball after all!
Can't blame me since it truly has been ages since I played it, and I never quite got the name of the game back then.
Looks like a good system.
HoZKiNZPooP i think so too!
I remember being one that had the game crash when I try to save
NOELGAMING1 haha oh man how did you sort it out?
i took back to gamestop exchange it 3x all did the same so at the end of the day just got a differnt games
What did Acclaim do about the bug?
If I remember reading correctly in Gamepro Magazine at the time, they just released a 2nd batch with the bug fix, I don't think they did a recall of the games already sold.
Commodorefan64 no64dd thats correct :)
Looks cool. Can bases be stolen?? That's a pretty cool feature in baseball. Nice review :)
RetroGamingNinja yes they can :)
Baseball as a sport is sort of like the slow part of the day on TV. Nothing else is on.
W3r3gam3r like curling at the winter olympics :)
I loved all star baseball 2001 on the N64. Not another good baseball game like it until road to the show on the ps3
a lot of game flaws or so-so features can be over looked if the game plays well. I had to rent this as a kid and had a great time with iit.I don't remember any gameplay issues and the memory wasn't an issue cause I rented it and didn't know about that flaw til this review
starstorm00 it was only in the first run and i think they corrected later copies quickly :)
I have one of the many "bad copy's" of wwf no mercy for example. the fixed copy's of no mercy have the code nus-nw4e-usa-1 on the bottom of the front label and cant find a copy ANYWERE.
starstorm00 Isn't that the flaw where the damn cartridge deletes your data?
A small nitpick: the music in this review is the menu music from All Star Baseball 2000. All Star 99 had a bizarre industrial-ish menu tune.
Great review otherwise!
That’s right, sometimes in reviews the music will get copyrighted for insane reasons out of nowhere so had to go with something else
Well I got here early.
bigbangbot and thank you for stopping by :)
Akklaim did have great games but they died off as newer consoles came about. I do like Baseball but never was a fan of Akklaim sports.
***** some of them are fun but not all of their sports games.
I love this one and also on GB advance very cool games)
Cool review))) b1gupz)))
julio ravelo i didnt have the gb version unfortunately ;(

Great review. I have almost no interest in this game, and yet it was still entertaining. Thanks!
James Schmidt hehe thank you!
You Should Review ASB2005 That One Had Better Graphics And More Signature Stances Including Pujols And Edmonds
i didnt like. i also bought the 2001 and it also sucked
+Eliseo Lusian what's your fav N64 baseball game?
i played only th2 mlb 99 ans 2001 and didnt like either one
I Like All Star Baseball 2005 It Was A Much Much Better Game
