    Small suggestion for future car reviews Mr. Marić. Use your Durometer on different surfaces, doors from behind, upper part, close to the glass, bottom, central console, front doors, dashboard. It's fast and it provides the exact number for all users who care for softness, fine materials. Anyway, nice reviews. Checked Corolla, Prius, Rav 4, Swift Sport, Focus.

    The use of Piano Black really divides opinion. I think it’s really classy, off-set as it is with the brushed aluminium. It does need looking after and there’s a simple answer to the finger prints. Just clean them occasionally using the micro-fibre cloth that comes with the car. Also, the voice recognition system is pretty good so you don’t use the haptics as much as you think you’re going to.

    • @gregsullivan7408
      @gregsullivan7408 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As a chauffeur, I'm with you - I like the piano black, and don't mind the extra work keeping it clean. Pro tip: an easy to buff spray wax is great for that kind of surface, e.g Meguiar's Ultimate Quik-Wax. (I buy it in bulk, in a 3.8L container - it's called "Synthetic X-Press Wax", but I believe it's the same product, or damn close). This stuff is super easy to buff to a streak-free finish. Anyway I have a black Q7 on order, with a beige interior, so I really will be spending a lot of time keeping it clean. 😉

    Great review as always Paul, awesome work. I saw your review of the Touareg and it’s hard to see where the extra money is going here with the q7. I mean the badge obviously attracts a premium but the Touareg has more power, more torque, arguably better infotainment and just as quiet (if not more quiet) ride quality. I think the Touareg gets the W when comparing the two from my perspective.

  • @smckay87

    The complete lack of center storage is awful. Your phone barely fit! And took up the entire console. The cup holders are insanely small. Just tested one and it's honestly a deal breaker. Sad because it's otherwise a really nice car.

    • @gregsullivan7408
      @gregsullivan7408 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep that tiny centre console is bizarre, but....I've ordered one anyway. 🤣 Due to the chip shortage, it won't have the wireless charging pad in the centre console, which I consider a "feature", because it frees up space! 🤪
      I hope the cupholders are large enough for an average size takeaway cup, because I'm a chauffeur. I didn't test that. If not, I'll be extremely annoyed.

    You and me both with all that piano black... but I do like the infotainment. I know I’m not in line with the market but I lament the demise of the station wagon in favour of these, most people don’t take these off road anyway.

    • @gregsullivan7408
      @gregsullivan7408 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally agreed re wagons - I'm a chauffeur, and it annoys me that SUVs are well accepted as limos now, but wagons are for some reason considered to look too much like a "family car". (I asked a few limo companies for their opinions). I've ordered a Q7, but I would have preferred the incoming VW Arteon Shooting Brake.

    • @CarExpertAus
      @CarExpertAus  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is a margin of turbocharger lag but it's not unusually high. It's better than the previous generation of this engine that's used in the Touareg. if you have a look at our review of that, you'll see we point out the turbocharger lag. It's quite pronounced there.

    • @geokon7192

    Hey Paul, does the 45Tdi have as much lag as the 50Tdi? I recently drove a 50Tdi and it was absolutely horrible and borderline dangerous below 2000 RPM. I walked away thinking I needed either the 45Tdi or the SQ7 or alternatively I need to snap up a 2020 Toureg 190Tdi before it's ruined by this engine.

    • @zachsaw78
      @zachsaw78 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tested the 45 TDI recently and there's quite a fair bit of lag too, coupled with the fact that the gearbox seems to be a bit slow to react to my foot. On a road that had a bit of incline, I caught the gearbox sleeping after slowing down to let an oncoming car pass. Rather than the gearbox being ready in the right gear to take off immediately when I punch the throttle, the turbo lag and the low RPM meant the Q7 slowed down even more, almost to a complete stop. It probably only took a second or two but after the gearbox sorted itself out to get into D1 and the engine overcoming the turbo lag, the car accelerated quite abruptly which I also thought was borderline dangerous.

    • @gregsullivan7408
      @gregsullivan7408 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep I noticed the same problem when I was driving one for a few weeks - e.g coasting into an intersection, and then wanting to gently accelerate to beat an oncoming car - NOTHING HAPPENS! Nevertheless, I've got one on order - I'm hoping that shifting manually will overcome the problem. (not that I consider this an acceptable solution)

      As a chauffeur, the Q7 came out on top for me - very quiet, refined ride, best price for the features I want, and excellent warranty - 5 years unlimited even for use as a Hire Car. Btw, the base diesel X5 I tested was pretty noisy when idling - I was quite surprised. (I'm referring to a deep drone when idling, heard inside the car)

    The Japanese and Koreans are winning. Cheaper, similar practically. This looks absolutely basic for the price.
