    OWB works REALLY well but man it almost works too good! I too have stripped shirts of color accidently, it's maddening! Not allowing them to submerge at all is key as is not allowing the powder to touch anything but the bottom. The colors you get when dying a stripped shirt are a little muted but looks terrific so I'm even dying the shirts that lost most of their color :)

      @@MCV-xg7kc memory was very much affected. I was self-taught bookkeeper for my husband's small business. I couldn't remember what to do with a receipt from Lowes or Menards. I was doing all the bookkeeping by hand on paper so I had to look up what I had done the month before or the week before to know how to write down materials for a job. I would lose track of what I was saying in the middle of a sentence. I had been a top speller in school before and could barely spell my own name after. I did a lot of guessing and then checking to get the spelling close. I was so frustrated! Now I use the phone spell checker a lot!
      As for lists they help if I don't lose them. And I have to be almost OCD about where I put my keys and glasses if I'm going to find them the next day. Or even 15 minutes later.

    You always have great videos and tutorials to teach us exactly how it’s done. My question is using white bright do you only have to rinse it out with water or do you need to use the peroxide water solution to neutralize the white bright? Because it seems like the white bright would be the easy way to go for bleaching. Thanks again and keep up your great art!

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thank you and you are welcome .... with the OUT and Rit Color Remover... you only need to rinse it very well with plain water or wash it.... and then you can re dye.... so yes I love using it .... bleach has its uses, but the neutralizing can be a pain and if you leave it on for too long you risk holes ..... I have not had any issues like the when using OUT or Rit, so those are my favorites to use when removing color.

    Thank you! I did this today to revive a blue tee with lightened armpit marks. It looked great, but then I popped it in the washer, and the light parts turned blue (albeit lighter than the original) again. It's rewrapped with vertical scrunches for another go here in a minute. Will try hot water rinse after cold before washing to see if that matters. FWIW, I washed it with towels and there was no color transfer.

    Is is better to place the shirt with the front of the shirt in the solution or the back or does it matter. I like this method instead of the orange color you get from bleach discharge.

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have done it both ways.... whichever side is down, gets a little more discharged .... so you can use that as your guide .... on spirals , whichever side is down while twisting it is smoother, so the lines are crisper .... and yes I love OUT so much better... removes more color and no need to neutralize

  • @davidjohnson2026
    @davidjohnson2026 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Cool... judt to mske thid easier, would it be good to pour a half inch or so with the out bright and set the shirt it the mixture?

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you can try that and see, but it might just soak into the tee when you set it in the solution ... to me it seems like the color comes out quickly when the OUT is directly on the tee when the hot water is added.... plus, I can watch the level and keep pouring water until I get it where I want it... and I even found that I could pour the water directly on top of the tee with the OUT under it and have just the bottom half discharge ... I was just looking for a way to control how much color came out as more than once I have spiraled or scrunched a black tee and then remove all or most of the color ... anyways... have fun exploring!!

    If you were doing a geode design would you want to submerge or only do half way up like this video?

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  ปีที่แล้ว

      for a geode design, I submerge the tee, or I flip it over and make sure the whole tee gets discharged ....
      here is a tee that started out Red, then I tied it geode style and then discharged the whole tee, then dyed it black : th-cam.com/users/shortsGFYZK1L3IW8?feature=share

    Love your videos. I tried this one, but the shirt turned green. I started with a 6x black shirt from Kingsize. The OWB turned it green . Is this something normal?

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you ... as for the tee turning green... Part of doing the Discharging on a tee involves the mystery of what the tee was dyed with and the process ... it is possible that each Brand of tee will discharge differently due to the process that created it.
      I have started with a Purple tee, tie and discharged it and it went to a bright orange color, but when it dried, then it looked more of a dirty rust color .... BUT, the next time I did a Purple tee, I discharged and still got the bright orange... but this time I rinsed it very well while it was still tied with the sinew. then I dyed it blue and the poured soda ash over the top of it, let it batch and when I rinsed it out, it looked great... it was purple and blue with no sign of the bright orange or dirty rust color
      So maybe try rinsing and re dyeing it... OR, try anohter Brand of tee... I have had good results with Gildan Ultra tees and with Port & Company tees... both seem to go from black to this lite tan if left in the solution long enough ✌️

  • @infernofarms
    @infernofarms 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey Carl. Great video. Have you tried mixing the OWB and hot water in a bottle then using like a liquid? Would that work?

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have been playing with that somewhat... I have not yet mixed OUT with HOT water, but I mixed some with cold water and then applied to a tee and then steamed it and some color came out
      Next I tried discharging a tee with OUT by sprinkling over top, pouring boiling water over the tee.... then I put some of that liquid into a dye bottle (it was very hot to handle) and applied it to a tee and I could see a bit of color come out, but not enough, so I steamed it for 45 minutes and got a little better result than the first time, but still not full color removal
      so my next step will be to mix the OUT directly with HOT water and then add that to a tee and see how it works... just gotta be careful with that as the OUT bubbles up a lot when hot water is added, so I plan to use a jar of some sort rather than a bottle as I can see a possible reaction like "mentos in a coke bottle" happening LOL ... I have not fully explored this technique just yet... when I do I will make a video ... but here is second one of the tees that was made like I described : facebook.com/photo/?fbid=10226785253117728&set=a.10226785297598840

    If I wanted to do geodes on a hoodie, but with no symmetry, can I scrunch it just as a full unfolded piece, tie/sinew it up and then dip into the own on front and back? Will I keep my black lines? I mean I assume so, but I'm new and make a lot of mistakes and I've learned a ton just by making mistakes but I'm using a $15 hoodie so I'd rather not screw this one up!

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will try to answer your questions here ... so, if you want to do a geode, I would tie with sinew and here is a video on how I do the geode ties : th-cam.com/video/2RmVJjW2aP4/w-d-xo.html
      you also mention scrunching and tying with sinew, here is a video where I scrunched and tied with sinew, although I did fold in half so there is symmetry here, but you do not have to fold in half and with a hoodie, it is probably best not to fold in half ... th-cam.com/video/co4CtTPba7g/w-d-xo.html ..... but I think this will be too much fabric to tie and then get black lines...
      the above method is best for a geode look... just be aware, the larger amount of fabric you try to tie with the sinew, the less detail of lines you will get ... the thicker fabric is part of the issue ... so I would stick to smaller bits of fabric... but tying tightly with sinew is what gets the black lines ... I do 3 wraps and pull tight, you should feel it kind of 'lock' in... then wrap more and pull tight... I find when I do a few layers, I get better lines
      I hope this helps

    Will this method work on a blue shirt? Will the out white bright turn the color white or will there be a different color tint to it?

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      with removing color it is always a gamble ... how a tee shirt will discharge depends on how it was dyed by the manufacturer ....
      for best chances, go with 100% cotton tees.... and then from there, you will need to test the tee to see what the color will be when discharged ....
      I had a bright purple tee that discharged to a bright orange which I loved, but when it dried, it turned to a darker burnt orange/brown color .....
      So with the blue, you may get white, but you may also get pink or a lighter blue .... so if it is a favorite, you may want to test a little spot first ❤️✌🏻🙏
      I have even had a brand that the color would not budge with OUT, but went almost white with bleach

    I wanted to try to "bleach" out a pair of black Levi's, so I followed the directions, used OWB and boiling water. None of the color was removed. Is that normal? How do I get rid of the smell in my house? I did it outside, and only brought the Levi's in to wash. Basement smells pretty bad. Is there a neutralizer?

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah that happens sometimes with tees as well, now and then I find a brand that the OWB does not touch for some reason .... but recently I found some old tees from back in the day.... they were black tees, off brand I found by accident and cannot find anymore of them.... BUT, these tees went almost white when I used bleach on them and I loved it, but every other brand of tee went to an orange color ....
      SO, anyways, I found a couple of these tees and I tried OWB on them and it lightened up slightly, but when it dried it went almost back to black ....
      so, I am going to experiment on these tees and others between bleach and OWB ... my guess is you might have some luck using bleach since the OWB did not work ...
      as for the smell, yes it is bad, but I work in front of an open window or outside, I bring them in to rinse in the sink and make sure to keep the window open ... but by the time I am washing, the smell is about gone ... I do have an Air Ionizer thing that help with smells
      I hope this helps ✌🏻💚🙏

      Out White Brite is not the same as Bleach, it works in a different way than bleach, so there is no need to neutralize it... just rinse very well, or wash and then you are ready to soak and dye it ... OR, you can leave as is
      BUT, I did find it on the Bleach isle at the store, it comes in powder form ✌🏻
